Surratt was the baseball coach before Griff. Griff was the coach when they made the state run. Surratt was an assistant under Rodney Russell. Russell left in 93. Williams took over in 94.

I believe they also made it to state in '97 under Griff. Lost the Champ game pretty bad if I remember correctly.

Surratt was every bit as much smart as he was gutsy on that call. It was a smart play because the wind was blowing about 25-30MPH and their last punt netted about 4 yards. It was a great gutsy smart call

I thought that WOS coaches should have been prepared for that call, because of the last punt carthage had. I feel the breakdown came from decisions made on sidelines. Water under the bridge!

  I completely agree. Neither team could kick that direction the wind was blowing and gusting so hard that night. It was a smart gutsy call. Had the wind not been blowing so hard I would bet that Surratt would have punted. We will never know at any rate it sure worked out for Carthage.

There are reasons Carthage has won 4 state titles in the past 5 years. They play top level competition in non district, they get great athletes, they have one of the best if not the best coach in the state, and they have facilities comparable to the University of Texas. No 4A program in the state, much less Setx, is on the same level as the program in Carthage!

Pig is right about the facilities, great venue for a playoff game. I know the Buna fans enjoyed it :)

My brother went to Carthage and so I've always had close ties. They are bred to win up there

Well we got beat. but not by 30 plus like you said.  Im sorry but I will disagree with you about East Texas Teams. LCM and Huffman both played with them. If our offense would have stepped up and caught balls Carthage would have lost. Jasper and Buna both beat east Texas teams. Maybe next year we can show you setx isn't  as bad as you have us out to be.
