Despite the fact that this is a hotly debated political issue (gun rights vs. gun control), there comes a point in which we ALL should be talking about ways to reduce the chances of this happening again.  
If your solution is "we're going to take your guns," you're not being reasonable.  If your response is "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED," you're being unreasonable, too.  

Not everyone is armed, many Pro 2nd amendment ppl aren't armed at all times.. I'd waiver a majority of Pro 2nd amendment ppl don't carry... that argument won't work here
I don't think the solution is taking away weapons that will never happen or work, it's more of what do we do now? Wait and see where the next school is going to have kids slaughtered? I have a son in school, own weapons, and don't believe every idiot in the world should should have the right to possess a weapon... we have things in place where not everyone can enlist in the army, drive a car, etc

I can’t stand when people fall into superfluous arguments like “can you tell me what an assault rifle is” like it’s some catch-22 that’s going to help them win a debate. 
 
Can you define a school shooting? Because that’s what we’re talking about. 
You don’t have to know the difference between an AR15 and an AK47 to have an opinion on kids getting mowed down in class. 
 
If they ever do enact here, it will be because of gun people who sell bump stocks, scream “what part of SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED do you not understand?” or refuse to at least admit that there are a heck of a lot of innocent people losing their lives via .223/5.56 rounds. 
 
Just because the left wants to use these shootings as an excuse to disarm law-abiding gun owners (typically conservatives) doesn’t mean that the repeated mass shootings shouldn’t be addressed in any way. 
 
 

Australia has strict gun laws as does the UK neither of which have a higher crime rate than the US. 

Trump is to blame for the supply chain issues. Biden is to blame for not putting forth a better effort to fix.

Could this have stopped had their been a background on his social media?  Could have. 

What about the ones that true conservative Republicans are destroying? 

I am far from an expert in law enforcement or active shooter safety protocols, but common sense tells me that rule #1 should be for the officers to stop a potential threat from entering the school at all costs if they are in position to do so. All the accounts I've read say that the officers engaged with the shooter outside of the school, but he was somehow still able to go inside and kill all those kids after the confrontation.

As well as planes?  I'm not sure I understand your rebuttal.  
So you'd agree that putting laws and regulations in place have helped stop planes crashing into buildings because they cannot fly themselves?   

And how many laws & new regulations were passed because of 9/11? It's almost like something changed and we haven't had another 9/11 since.

We are not politicians we don’t get paid to push idiocy. So why do we do it?

These are kids we are talking about. And Our elected officials will shout out agenda driven talking points. We deserve better as a nation.

Having said all of that, gun owners need to be more responsible.  I literally got all of mine out of the house when my boys were teenagers.  We had a few instances that caused me just enough concern that I didn't want to live with myself if they did something stupid/harmful to themselves or anybody else.  Keep them locked up.  Don't sell a gun to anybody that you don't know.  Buying a gun is a life-long commitment... If individual sellers did a better job of a)locking up their firearms and b)not selling them to people that they don't know, we'd all be in a better place.
I predict that we're going to see where this kid had tons and tons of warning signs, but his family just ignored them.  At least that's what it seems like in most of these cases.  I was all for prosecuting the parents of that last kid (in florida, I think) that shot up his school after his "cool" parents gave him a gun. Or the guy that shot Dimebag after his mom got him a pistol to celebrate him doing a good job of taking his anti-psychotic meds.  
The second amendment isn't just a right... it's a responsibility.  

Some form of security at every entrance of the school.. even parking lot
Metal detectors 
Any red flags or rumors of planning this stuff should be taken seriously and not thrown under the rug
