shovel got a reaction from TxHoops in Baylor situation
Some thoughts from an old guy:
I've been a fan of Art Briles since I saw his Stephenville team beat PNG in the Astrodome. I read his biography and admired him as a coach and a person. This certainly clouds that admiration, though, I haven't heard Briles side of the story. I do have mixed feelings here...
Football is a violent sport played by violent men. Some can turn it on when on the field, and turn it off when not. I think of examples  like Howie Long and Michael Strahan. Others may not be able to turn it off. While their barbaric actions work well on a football field,  they are criminal in a civilized society.
Then there is the money thing. It is phenomenal how much a small, private Baptist college in Waco Texas has changed over the last decade. The campus is much improved and McLane Stadium is out of this world! Baylor is a serious contender for a National Championship this year!
Have Art Briles and others sold their integrity to build this? How can Baylor, TCU, Boise State or anyone not in a powerhouse program recruit or compete with the powerhouse programs ? As fans that funnel money into this; are we partly to blame?
Rape and sexual assault are vicious crimes and cannot be tolerated. A hard line must be drawn here, and I think for the most part, it has been. It gets fuzzy when we start getting close to that line. For Art Briles and others to succeed,  they have to take players who are top program talent, yet aren't in top programs.
I guess I have more questions than answers. I love football,  especially on Fridays and Saturdays.  I still want to pull for Baylor and other underdogs. When the 2nd chance player turns thing around, it is a feel good story we all like. When the 2nd chance player is convicted of rape and assault and only gets 180 days in jail, it feels dirty and disgusting. I'm not sure where I'm going with this and I'm not sure I will like the outcome. As a Christian and good citizen, I have to examine this some more.

Aye I always wanted mallet to be the guy but hoyer to me outplayed mallet slightly during the first 2 preseason games. Nothing changes both better than Fitz. Playoff bound.

Trump has already said enough stupid stuff that would bury other candidates.  Think about his remarks on McCain, immigration,  Megan Kelly, etc. What will it take to totally derail Donald Trump?

Trump is not a conservative.  He's been a liberal Democrat most of his life and he has given the most money to liberal democrats. He is certainly not above buying influence with the right wing,  and has done so. As recently as the debates, he spoke in favor of socialized medicine and trumpeted how well it works in Canada. Donald Trump is a fresh voice to the ticked off, angry citizens. While I like the fact he is making the rest of the Republicans take a stand about the noise he is making, I can't get excited about him as a candidate.  Remember that one poll had Deez Nuts with 9% support. Don't get excited about Trump, but enjoy the sideshow while it lasts.

It's ironic for sure, as I think you posted recently.   Why the ones got Rich w/capitalism want Socialism?  Armed entourage - take guns away.  What's up with that?
One thing I'm all in on, it's NOT about Global Warming, it's about power.  "They" get a majority believing it, "They" pass rules and Regs to control us a little more.  EPA, Dept Education, both started w/good intentions.  EPA did some good at first.  Now, another tool to control us.   I guess we're like a herd of cattle & they're rounding us up for branding.  Won't get into what's on the B. Iron.

Smitty,  you often bring up "low information voters". Don't you think that anyone voting for Trump would fit into this category?

I understand, but by the 3rd quarter, I'd had my fill of Collingsworth. I've  had my fill of the Steelers too! Stefan Diggs looks like he might make some noise this year.

Wildcats about to learn about betting with Mr. Buddy Garrity. Buying BG hamburgers hurt my pride more than my wallet. Buddy if you can get a few more of these guys to bet you, you'll eat free all football season!

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz cannot give an honest answer. Which is the difference between Democrats and socialists. The socialists are honest about it. The Democrats have to lie...
    Otherwise, there is no difference.

I sure hope PNG scores 50+.  We'd like for it to be a close game.  It's more exciting that way.

You've definitely paid for your shirt and then some!
And don't let these Aggies fool you.  They have plenty of "t shirt" fans, including plenty on this forum.  They just like to complain about UT's because, like always, we are the most popular school in the state.  Jealousy is a powerful thing.
I've always thought it's an extremely dumb (I.e., Aggie) argument anyway.  Aren't all of us Cowboy fans just tshirt fans?

I guess I'm one of those t-shirt fans, Aggie. I didn't go to PNG, but I've paid school taxes there for 30+ years. I never had a UT shirt until my kid enrolled there. Does it count if I bought my shirt from the school bookstore instead of Walmart? My favorite pro team was the Oilers...

I'll take the over also. PAMFAM covered it well... Defense is more stout and deeper. Mallet or Hoyer are better options than Fitz at QB, and this year's schedule is a little softer to boot.

Texans should have top 3 defense in NFL. They went 9-7 with a rookie head coach Fitzpatrick as qb a injured Foster and no clowney. With a 2nd year under b.ob. a healthy Foster and cushin with Vince and clowney helping jj up front. I believe it's realistic to believe the Texans will at least win one more game than last year for 10-6 ....... I no qb is up in the air but mallet or hoyer just have to be better than Fitz. Yes no Andre but Hopkins at this point is the better wr. Last year proved that.

Going against the grain again, but just a little... I'll pick Briles for #1. He is doing more with less than anybody in college football.  Facilities are rapidly improving around him because of his success,  but I still remember the lean years since Grant Teaff was coach there. Meanwhile, I can't knock Patterson at all. What he's done at TCU is phenomenal. Sumlin and Strong still have a lot to prove, as does Kingsbury.
