[/quote] i gather from the bold text that information went from one person to another person to you.  gotta be careful with creditability of info that goes through several people.  im not saying your wrong scapegoat. im saying i know coach english alot better than most of you.  He's gonna play who he thinks is gonna produce wins.... If you know the plays, you know the defenses, you produce, and have a great attitude and work ethic coach E is gonna play you. he's not perfect he may make some bad decisions everybody does...and just because one coach said this and another said that....every coach has their own philosphy and ways of coaching.  There is struggle between football and basketball at Nederland.  Football coaches want their players in offseason lifting weights/agility drills.  Basketball coaches want their players in the gym working on skills and knowledge of the system in place. why cant football players go from football to basketball?  why is that so difficult at Nederland?

was he discouraged from playing or did he just not make the cut..... if he didn't make the cut due to other players being better than he was did he:     a. give up on basketball     b. put more work in on his basketball skills during his personal time, so he         could come back his soph year and try to make the team. just because someone doesn't make the team doesn't mean he's being discouraged from playing the sport....it means he needs to work harder and improve his game. if someone doesn't get a job is that employer discouraging him from getting a job. so now he just gives up on working. too many kids now go to their parents to save them when they don't get what they wanted or don't make the team or don't get enough playing time......and there parents go right along with it.....its never the kids fault, its never that the kid is not good enough.... come on people.... 

HJ has open enrollement....thats why they are the way they are

Yes i have an old school mentality.  I mean whats next....5 teams 6 teams every team makes playoffs.  Society is slowly going towards "no one should be left out" We don't want to hurt anybody's feelings. You don't have to earn anything, there entitled to everything now. False sense of reality to me......but then again maybe not...the way society, along with govt, going towards everybody should get a piece of the pie whether you put in the work or don't. Seems like just a money thing to me.

Sounds like SCAPEGOAT's kid plays both sports and probably rides the pine in basketball.  He's like a lot of parents who believes lil johnny is the best thing to the sport but yet he doesn't get to play, so he blames the coach and looks for excuses rather than seeing his kids ability for what it really is. Just because lil johnny was an allstar lil dribbler when he was young doesn't mean he's gonna be an all star in high school.....too many parents cant see this.

Hats off to Buna.....whey whipped the mess out of the Horns I like the intensity of the Coach. I wasn't trying to take away the wins that Buna has accumalated with my earlier post.

How did Kountze lose to Tatum by 13? Was Kountze missing players? They may have to play them again in the 2nd round.

You can say the same thing about basketball as far as "coaching goes" when it comes to beaumont schools or at least a majority of them.  Beaumont basketball wins consistently in district with not so good coaching, why can't football be the same?

And yes my post was off the subject/title of this post.  But i was just responding to other posts about freshmen and junior high kids.  think about it How is Nederland able to compete and sometimes beat these beaumont schools?  Is it because of Coach Es work or the lack of coach/teaching at the beaumont schools?  or maybe a combination of the two.... Do we really need to compare the talent and athleticism of the two areas, its a pretty clear answer......beaumont is far superior in those qualities as a whole than nederland.....

Yes that is very true.....He needs an assistant that is not only full time basketball, but one that knows the game.

I don't have a dog in the fight the truth:         Beaumont will always have superior athletic ability as a whole over Nederland.         Beaumont Middle Schools are split among 3 public High Schools and several other private             schools.         Nederland has one high school.         Nederland players predominately stay together thru Middle school to High School         Beaumont players do not.         Nederland is able to compete because there is more unity and they have a head coach that         out coaches the coaches in that district         No im not saying that the beaumont coaches can't coach, but with the talent they have in that         area the beaumont schools should be heads above Nederland or any other team in that district.         I see the talent on the junior high level for beaumont year in and year out.         Coach English is teaching his players and the players get it.         Beaumont coaches seem to use the invidual raw talent/athletic ability as a cruch when it comes         to their coaching/teaching a team .         Coach English can't afford to do that or they would not be competitive.
