Stadium renovation news
TexasTerror replied to NorthoftheBorder's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Psst... Don't let UNLV know that SHSU alums now hold the top two spots on the TSUS Board of Regents. He'll think we have a conspiracy to keep the Cards out of joining the Ohio Valley Conference or Atlantic Sun, whichever it is he is seeking... [Hidden Content] -
Shot a 4-under-par in the first round. Only four back of the leaders and tees off for the second round this AM at 9:35.

SHSU Announces 2010 Schedule (Lamar Date Set)
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Of course, that last victory was preceded by a few SHSU wins over LU - including wins when the Kats were a lower classification than the Cards. UNLV - whatcha going to do if LU loses to Langston? Or one of those other sub-Div I teams, something that was a bit of tradition during their last tenure in SETX? -
SHSU Announces 2010 Schedule (Lamar Date Set)
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Nah, this is not a UNLV team that has more entertainment in the stands (especially when Hawaii visits or vice-versa) than on the field. Of course, you must have some great vision to see what kind of talent each will have in 2010... -
SHSU Announces 2010 Schedule (Lamar Date Set)
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
With PV... 1) Close to Huntsville (and Houston) 2) They have gotten better as a football team, so while they are not a power, they are a good test with some solid athletes 3) A Division I game instead of a Div II game. We had to put St. Joseph's (Div II) on our schedule when PV dropped out late. There are no Div II games on the slate in 2010 and probably won't be in 2011. 4) Their band coming to SHSU would help draw fans 5) Have to believe they would travel and our fans would travel there, good boost for both teams -
I do not think TTU and Baylor would move the series if they were not going to make equal or more than they do at home. Considering the amount of $$$ they are charging for tickets when A&M comes to town, perhaps that's how they do. Definitely some soft benefits too...

SHSU Announces 2010 Schedule (Lamar Date Set)
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Fixed the SFA thing... I thought it was set because the PV series got moved back following the hurricanes. We had already had WIU, Baylor and G-Webb on tap plus the PV game. Apparently, PV has dropped off our radar and that series may never happen. Really wanted to see it and we still could, but not in 2009 or 2010. -
The date is not the Oct. 16 date that somehow got around, but the Kats will be visiting Beaumont on Oct. 2. Hoping that the following year (2011) will include LU visiting SHSU - which according to the schedule I have is a Oct. 22 trip. Any confirmation? Yep - that's how it works. Key is if the perspective student-athlete is a good student and can get a large % of aid via academics. The coaches who have the most success are the ones who are able to find those strong athletes, who are just as strong in the classroom. Are all track programs fully scholarshiped per the limits in the SLC? I do not think so.
-
Lamar favors their distance program, which is where the bulk of their scholarships are...a sprinter may want to look at another Texas school, perhaps one with an SLC championship quality track facility, which LU does not.

This week...? Or in January when KatFans.com announced it? ???
-
That'd mean I'd have to wait two months to get news reported on LU football if I just stuck to this board.

LU vs. SE Louisiana Game Series Thread
TexasTerror replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
8 teams within two games of each other. UTSA lost a series to A&M-CC. There's so much topsy-turvy in this league, we may not have much determined until the final weekend series. Could be trying to figure out who qualifies for the conference tournament then, as in most each team heading to Corpus may not be figured out! -
Did my post get deleted? I was curious if this was new news, as this was reported in January on KatFans...?

Some of the SLC members do have proud Division II and NAIA accomplishments! SLC also has had a Final Four participant in women's hoops. ;D
-
It shouldn't stand for championship! I find it amusing the Congress says the NCAA should not call a non-playoff title game a "national championship game", but the only people calling the BCS title game the "national championship" are those in the media. The NCAA does not even recognize it as a national championship game!
-
If LU was an FBS school - they could probably pull it off (i.e ULM having a "home game" against Arkansas in Little Rock). As an FCS school - LU has no chance.

It was not a LU thing - it was a general thing and how wins over BCS squads in any sport (regardless of how good/bad they are) gets much more attention for those sports than conference wins. SLC fans, Big South fans, SWAC fans, OVC fans, they are all the same...
-
Congrats Lamar! WVU would probably be a middle of the pack tennis team in the SLC, but it sure does get the boosters riled up to see you beat THE West Virginia University in a sport. The key to college athletics for the Title IX and Olympic sports is scheduling beatable "big name" schools in out of conference play. I really think it goes a long way. ;D

Advice For Lamar's New Writer
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The Gary Laney bit says, "special to the Advocate". Wonder where he is? I don't think he ever moved from Lake Chuck to Beaumont. Will have to check into this one. -

Advice For Lamar's New Writer
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Laney is an expert on FCS football. His coverage of McNeese and FCS while in Lake Charles, got him a reputation around the nation. It'd be hard to argue that he was not one of the top FCS writers nationally, even arguably better than the Sports Network's writer. There's no other writer in the SLC footprint that knew as much about FCS as he did, outside of perhaps CSN's beat writer.
