  1. I gave you the total amounts... ??? And are you going to tell me about your 1981 win over a 5-6 Baylor team that started the year ranked after winning the SWC the year before? UNLV, reliving the yesteryears...you do the same think with Jerry Tarkanian's bunch at UNLV? And yes, UNLV -- LU won the last battle, but SHSU was 13-8-1 with many of those wins by LU coming when you were a 'class' above us. Heck, some of our wins came when we were not on the same "level" as you blokes.
  2. LU: 3 in 22 years SHSU: 3 in 21 years Last place finishes: LU 6 <--- most in league history SFA 5 TXST 4 SHSU 2 McN 1 <--- 1987
  3. I've seen both sides of the argument and I have a hard time believing that LU's departure really "made" McN football...if anything, it allowed other schools to take the Cards spot at the bottom of the conference standings, as Lamar is the "all-time cellar dweller" of SLC football.
  4. What a joke! Get back with us when you actually beat McNeese in football...or at the very least, actually turn into 10% of what you once were in men's hoops. :
  5. UNLV - it's hard to announce when no one knows what will come at the end of the moratorium. And I've said it once, I'll say it again - SHSU's President refuses to play third fiddle and watch BOTH TXST and LU make the move without us. Our basketball and softball/baseball facilities are better (or equal) to than at least half, if not more of the Sun Belt facilities. Only upgrade needed is football stadium and it'd honestly not take much to top Arkansas State or ULM, among other stadiums I've seen.
  6. You check the Title IX numbers in Beaumont? Perhaps the amount of females are rising...? LU will add bowling first, followed by swimming. Bowling is being added around SLC right now and is the next sport. Of course, this does not include SAND VOLLEYBALL -- which is going to become what XC is to track and field for volleyball. SLC is already mandating teams play sand volleyball in the spring. That sport will help some schools with Title IX.
  7. Perhaps you guys are reading too much into this...? Perhaps an attempt to save your men's tennis program while adding football? SHSU will have ALL of the programs listed and currently at Lamar sans men's tennis and women's swimming/diving. Seems swimming/diving is what will allow LU to retain men's tennis.
  8. Coker wants to go to build a program and go FBS. No guarantees with LU to go FBS as is the case with UTSA. Alamodome is much easier a sell than the Cardinal Stadium, just ask Tulane why they play at the Superdome, even with 5000 fans.
  9. No surprise - game was in Thibodaux and Nicholls is playing good right now. How 'bout those Bearkats?
  10. No - but it keeps you in position to win - as compared to having players ineligible and not doing anything for your APR. And most importantly for campus politics, it keeps the academic side of the university happy with athletics. We all know how those academic folks are hit or miss with athletics. We've had the top GPA in the league and more Commissioners Honor Roll selections (over the course of the year) than any school in the conference. That is a proud talking point for our President, can tell you that much.
  11. UCA is not eligible for SLC postseason play at this point.
  12. He's dominated the rest of the SLC as it relates to his team's performance in the classroom... ;D
  13. Coachacola brought up good points -- of course, he said the SLC is "weak" and of course, Lamar hasn't even created a ripple in the current -- so where does that put that once proud program?
  14. The SLC has had some of it's strongest seasons in the last decade after a pitiful 1990s. The RPI is actually top 20 again this year after it was last year for the first time since Lamar, La Tech and company were playing some good hoops. Even when the SLC was weak - SHSU was not winning double-digit games. Marlin got us to that level. And SHSU has won MORE games OVERALL, in SLC PLAY and OUT OF CONFERENCE since Marlin took over. He's made us a winner and I must say, being in the race every year is much more entertaining than being the most hyped team every year, that falls flat on it's face. Just ask Uncle Drayton. Being in the race puts butts in the seats and is much better than not being competitive at all. Are you not aware of the Buzz Williams situation? Williams drove players away from a program he abandoned and pushed them to his friends, Roc included. He also crapped all over the city of New Orleans - so he can kiss the whole city's collective tail. And as far as Woodard -- Bob West did say he something along the lines of him "announcing" that Bevil was to sign with LU. Coaches can "leak" information to the media and do it often, but West put Woodard in a bad place by saying that he had "announced" it. That is where things get "sticky". The media member did not protect the head coach. Really not Woodard that violated the NCAA rule, but West who put Woodard under the bus and put him in a precarious situation.
  15. Several things... 1) Marlin has won two conference championships, including one in his second year at SHSU. It was the first winning record at SHSU in Div I. Since then, we have been the BEST team in the SLC - in overall record, out of conference record and SLC record. And he did not need a divisional format to aid him in getting a "co-championship" like your program did at a time when there was clearly a weaker division (see SLC West vs SLC East 2008). 2) Marlin does not make excuses. Sure, we lost plenty of players from last year's squad. Sure, this was the biggest turnover in SHSU history under Marlin since the year after we went to the NCAA. Fans even crapped on this team and quit. Well, apparently this team is developing before our very eyes and is in FIRST place in the SLC. LU seems to have plenty excuses and where is your team? Wins and losses matter most at the end of the day. I just saw a team with seven players knock off the league favorite in a mid-major league the other night. Go figure! 3) I have read all the posts. I still question the depth. Based on your annual recruiting discussion, it seems like all of your players bring "All-World" attributes to your roster. It is not always about recruiting rankings or how many friends your program/coach have on a certain basketball web site (to help get you those rankings). 4) Roc is best friends with Buzz Williams, the least classiest coach in the country in all college sports (even above Todd Graham of Tulsa). And we all know how Buzz took care of Roc by giving him Worrell after Buzz drove his recruits away from the same program he recruited them for. Based on association, I'll never have the respect for Roc that I have for guys like J.P. Piper and Scott Cross. 5) Sure, it may seem like I am kicking you while you are down -- but all of these are things I've said before, when you guys were thinking this was your NCAA year (unless you go Mike Deane and make a run in the SLC tournament, that won't happen). None of this is new, not even the result on the court for the Cards.
  16. My question is...with all those top ranked recruiting classes, where is the depth? Perhaps Roc's recruiting strategy is off target as far as the SLC goes and he needs to go a different route?
  17. SHSU sure is playing some good basketball --our only loss in SLC play is the close call in Nacogdoches. Glad to see how this team has come about this season.
  18. I guess you've never seen a SWAC football or basketball contest. Well, if there's one thing that Billy Tubbs can do, it's correct a problem in this conference. Whether his decisions in correcting are good or not is anyone's call.
  19. Fewer leagues in our "officiating group" would have probably led to better officials. More of the leagues in our "officiating group" play on Wednesdays. One league in said group moved to Thursdays to get better officials.
  20. This was one of the better officiating crews in the SLC (as Lazeek agrees), but yes -- glad to see you agree with me about Billy Tubbs idea to move the games to Wednesday. Was not that brilliant a plan and the Sun Belt, which flipped with you guys, has benefited to some extent by going on Thursdays. There are very few nights, if any -- in which SHSU will be less prepared than an opponent. The players have bought into the preparation process that our coaching staff has put into place. Our team will not get outcoached, most certainly not in the SLC. We may get outplayed on a given night, but it's not because they were not prepared.
  21. That was one of the more recognizable and probably one of the best groups of officials in the SLC -- Randall, Dugas and Jon Stigliano. At a time when most conferences in this region have been seeing officials they have never seen before, all three are very recognizable names.
  22. Box score... [Hidden Content] And MFFL -- SHSU is not great, but we are heading in the right direction. This team is learning as they go. Games like this are valuable lessons. Our young squad has played their share of close games, more than LU has played this season, that's for sure. Most importantly, they are learning how to win them and that's something that some of our more experienced teams of yesteryear have not always been good at.
  23. How SWEEP it is! ;D Glad to see the Bearkat women step up at home and win for the fourth straight time at the Johnson Coliseum. This team is tough to beat at home and is gaining confidence. They are learning how to win.
  24. MEN SFA - #1 SHSU - #2 Lamar - #3 [Hidden Content]
