SLC East Division Champs! ;D
-
Unlike most schools in the conference, SHSU's attendance at hoops is STUDENT-DRIVEN. Anyone know has been to a SHSU game knows as much - we're not like Lamar. When current TXST athletic administrator Chris Park was at SHSU, he used to say how we must be one of the few schools in the nation where 10% of the student body attends games. This game was the day after school let out for spring break. Really...? I see UTSA in the official bracket. I know LU is on the sidelines, but figure you'd pay more attention than that. You busy keeping tabs on the MWC or WAC?

Roc's saving grace is that he'll be back in the SLC East after one more year. If he can do better the next go around, he's bound to win a conference championship by virtue of being in the weaker of the two divisions upon is year. SHSU will be well stocked next year and it seems the Isles are going to get better. Roc has one more year of seeing Bob Marlin, Perry Clark and Scott Cross twice a year. I'm sure he enjoys avoiding two games against Danny Kaspar's squad yearly. Looking forward to the next few weeks of all the "recruiting chatter" on this board. What top ranked recruits are coming in for next year?

My best friend works in UNLV's athletic department. I got no problems with them - just the fans who are a little perplex about which school they support from there.
-
Last I checked - UNLV was in a conference that desires to be a mid-major (according a recent article in the San Jose Mercury News) and are not ready to be on the same level level as the "haves". I see now why you like both UNLV and Lamar. Both have similar thinking - not willing to be at the "have" level.

No - unlike "trolls", I make it very well known who I support and don't pretend to be a Cardinals fan, despite allegiances to the Cougars or Runnin' Rebels...

Lady Cards Tennis Opens SLC Play with 5-2 Win Over SHSU
TexasTerror replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Saw that SLU took a 7-0 loss to UTSA. Really thought SLU had a bit of talent left, apparently not. SLU's No. 5 used to play at SHSU, she wasn't that great by any stretch. UTSA could be in the mix as well, don't you think? -
We all know the West Division is tougher -- see Lamar's results in basketball. ;D And who won the SLC baseball tournament last year, ending any chance Lamar had of going to the NCAAs? "Oh, yeah, SHSU."

Lady Cards Tennis Opens SLC Play with 5-2 Win Over SHSU

Yep - I recall that well - your #1 beating ours, but it was 6-3, 6-3. I looked it up, because I thought our girl beat yours later in the year or at a tournament. Can't find it. The best players in the SLC will meet when we play SLU in Huntsville. The Lions are my pick to win the SLC at this point, until proven otherwise. If SHSU can not get a top 200, 250 ITF player to replace her - we're going to be up the creek next year! SFA has really tumbled in tennis. SHSU beat McNeese 7-0 by the way. -
Incorrect. If SHSU goes FBS, I will not be happy -- especially with the current format of the subdivision with their lack of playoffs and not everyone having a seat at the table.
-
If you get a chance, frequent your way out of the LU message board...you'll see I'm a big Southland guy full and through. Truly not of the UNLV bloodline, one that has to badmouth the conference and even have a "confused" name in which my allegiance is perplexing.

Trying to explain NAIA vs NCAA back in the day. Things have obviously changed a great deal, but there were definitely some NAIAs that could take it to NCAAs... I'm still curious if the "gray hairs" will dare venture out into the elements for football. You got enough suites for the majority of the LU fan base to stay inside?
-
What about in the 60s? Dare you check who SHSU was beating back then, in baseball and basketball? I've heard stories of who was unwilling to play us too. One of those years in the 1960s, SHSU had more players drafted to the NBA than UCLA. I don't think the "way tougher" adage was too accurate, though I can see where based on MFFL's lifetime, you may think so. What about football? Why did Lamar, after losing two games in the early 1960s to an NAIA SHSU team, not schedule us for another decade, despite being Division I? Of course, that 1971 team beat the Cards too.
-
How many national titles does Lamar have in baseball? World Series' appearances? We may have baseball. 1960 - NAIA World Series (4th) 1961 - NAIA World Series (5th) 1962 - NAIA World Series (6th) 1963 - NAIA World Series (1st) - NATIONAL CHAMPS 1964 - NAIA World Series (4th) 1965 - NAIA World Series (4th) 1972 - NAIA World Series (3rd) 1974 - NAIA World Series (2nd) 1975 - NAIA World Series (2nd)

Guess we know how this season is going to go for the Kats...SHSU did win the doubles' point and our No. 1 player is probably the best singles' player in the SLC, but we've got to get production in singles' play from the 4-6 positions. Congrats Lamar on the win. -
Last two seasons... ;D SHSU: 2 NCAAs appearance (one of which was as a regional finalist) Lamar: 0 NCAAs I'm just glad a few of you have come to recognize the weak schedules of LU. If you are a good program and have a nice facility, you will get home-and-homes with the best programs around...
-
Lamar's baseball facility is far below SHSU's... as is their ability to win as of late.
-
I seem to recall 2008 including Arkansas State (x2 - and that was a very bad squad last year), Michigan State (a sub 500 Big Ten team and this is not a premier sport in that conference), Kansas State (who did not even qualify for Big 12 tourney), Akron, Buffalo (two teams with losing records in the MAC) and dare I even get into New York Tech, UT-Pan American? If those aren't the "Sisters of the Poor", I do not know who is...a weak schedule by even SLC standards. I'll give you ULM (even if they were the first SBC regular season champion to not qualify for the NCAAs in about 30 years), Rice, ULL and Houston. Only problem is - you guys only do single games yearly with the two Houston area schools. Before you dog the "Prisonville" group...your friends in Huntsville get Houston, Rice and Dallas Baptist for home-and-homes on an annual basis. That's three consistent NCAA qualifiers, atleast DBU will become one this year. Texas A&M rotates year to year. Also have Nebraska, Missouri State and St. Mary's for a home tournament plus a four-game set against Creighton.
-
Lamar has routinely played a mediocre schedule. Even the "big name" schools that have come to Beaumont have been weak "big name" schools, who are more known in football and basketball than baseball.

LU Ladies vs. Sam Houston Updates..Ladies Win!!!
TexasTerror replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I know Tidwell's teams are heading in the one direction pretty quick... But as MFFL acknowledged, our Bearkat women teams are NIGHT and DAY from where we were. Gawd, we were awful! -

Bearkat women need to learn how to finish on the road... The fact they pushed OT with as tough a team as you guys says a lot about the potential of where this team is heading. Just need to get there and get it done! -
Any word on Skyler Williams? According to KatFans.com, he initiated a "splash zone" in the front row of seats. But, he was not the worst person in the building according to the same post...wonder if it was a Cardinals fan.
-
Congrats Cards! That was a big win for your program and a not so great for the Bearkats, who are now stuck in a bit of a rut now as far as the SLC chase goes. Our fans have said we have the tougher schedule of the group and as we've seen - Lamar has been no easy walk in the park. Not surprised by the challenge Lamar presented. Surprised our women pushed you OT on your home floor. They've had problems on the road, a sign of progress, perhaps? And no LUFan - SHSU did not protect Lamar's name. Lamar has still yet to protect their name and SHSU, having already protected ours, will sit on the sidelines and watch. That's what happen when you are a bit slow... Sorry I did not get on here sooner as I did not walk into my front door until 10 tonight -- glad to see the change of heart here on the board. I guess beating the Bearkats will do that for you since I'm the only visiting fan willing to smack talk with you folks.

A Real Game in 2009 for LU Football
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
How is South Alabama doing it if they were going to cost eligibility of players? South Alabama is playing SEVERAL games. If that's the case... a) Where is LU going to practice? Where is LU going to conduct those intrasquad scrimmages (I believe two or three of them have been mentioned)? They could schedule this game practically whenever they wanted to during the fall, if they can't do it early in the year due to stadium turf or what not, they can do it later...seems like an opportunity wasted.
