  1. South Alabama is due to release their schedule soon. Their coach has been quoted as saying they'll be able to recruit some of the kids they play against - as in they are playing JUCO squads. That's smart! Here's one of their opponents for their "exhibition year" -- Huntingdon College. [Hidden Content]
  2. Where's Gary Laney? I thought the Enterprise had the best FCS writer in the country as their new LU beat writer and sports editor? If Laney is not around, Lee Yobbi needs to give him a call and learn! Is LU a Div II program? I am sure UNLV and Dick Vitale feel that way, but come on Lee Yobbi! FCS is formerly I-AA. 3. Well - we all know why Lamar is playing in 2011. At least, the SLC squads now have Homecoming set for 2011.
  4. I do not see how UTSA could get in until 2013. With LU coming into the SLC in 2011, the schedule is set through 2012 (it may be 2014, I forget). Either way, would not think the SLC would want to add schools in back-to-back years. May be more than willing to help UTSA schedule in 2011 and 2012, as is the case with Lamar getting four schools (with at least SHSU right in the heart of SLC play).
  5. LU got offered an exhibition game by a club football program. Never heard if they accepted, but I'm sure I would have if they did. So, SHSU @ LU in 2010, which I'm guessing means that we do not have Prairie View A&M. So, that's @ LU, @ Western Illinois, @ Baylor and home for Gardner-Webb. Would have preferred two OOC home games to get us six, but that's how things crumble. Perhaps we no longer have Baylor on anymore, not sure...
  6. Next time - send me to the proper link. If you did, you'd of seen there was one "table" for baseball and no divisions. [Hidden Content] I could say something, but I wouldn't want to bring UNLV into an exclusive club.
  7. Psst...there are no divisions in baseball!
  8. SHSU is heading in the right direction with SOS...thanks for posting. Love Boyd's World! Lamar SOS in OOC last year was 132. TXST was 17, UTSA was 20, Arlington was 23, SHSU was 42, SFA was 48...A&M was 50. To the fans who did not believe that LU continually has a weak OOC - there you go. The other Texas schools were far ahead of LU, that's one year. LU ranks near the end in year's prior too.
  9. You must not follow much college hoops - the SLC has vastly improved as a conference as is acknowledged in the conference's RPI. We are definitely not the SWAC (who is an annual participant in the play-in game) nor one of the other typical play-in participants...
  10. You guys need to make the SLC tournament first, don't you?
  11. The difference is we are talking about one of the reasons Tubbs spearheaded the move to a neutral site tournament (though his real intentions were to get it to Beaumont). One of those was SHSU's undefeated record at home and Tubbs knew that as long as Marlin was at Sam, this would be a problem in restoring the "once proud" history of LU basketball.
  12. SHSU is 8-0 in SLC tournament games at Johnson Coliseum under Bob Marlin. Simple as that. We do not lose at home when conference tournament games are at home sites. ;D And Tubbs was the one who pushed for the SLC to go back to neutral sites, changed the dates to Weds/Sat and plenty of other changes that have unfolded in the SLC over the last few years. He wanted to make this a basketball conference and now he's got football, which should be intriguing to follow what he does now.
  13. Considering since 2000 - we have more SLC tournament appearances than any squad (tied with UTA), we would...not sure LU would notice, since they are not as "regular" as any other team in Texas... SLC Tournament appearances (Since 2000) 9 — SHSU, UTA 8 — UTSA 7 — SFA, McNeese, NW St., Texas St. 6 — SE La., Lamar 5 — UL-Monroe% 3 — Nicholls St. 2 — A&M-CC# % — Not a member of the SLC after 2005 # — SLC member since 2007
  14. If you knew much about NCAA athletics, you may know a thing about APR. Perhaps Roc's players should not graduate and you guys can feel the pinch of being INELIGIBLE for the postseason and LOSE a few scholarships. ??? ??? Read what Kenny Powers said...
  15. Loses the big one, correct. But I said, if the games were not neutral site...Marlin does not lose SLC tournament games at home! One of several ideas spearheaded by BillyBall.
  16. If there were home games in the SLC tournament for the higher-seed, SHSU would have made at least two, if not three NCAA appearances by now and you are right, Marlin probably would have left SHSU. He's got a good deal. He's the big fish. He's able to recruit decent mid-major talent. Just got a nice donation (or is about to announce it at least). And more importantly, he knows he is making a profound impact on kids' lives because his kids graduate with HIGH marks. He doesn't waste his time on recruits who will not pan out.
  17. And while I have not been following it, looks like SHSU is going to bow out... Bearkats just can't have the same success that they have at home in the conference tournament. Billy Tubbs in pushing for the neutral site games did something right, took SHSU out of the running. After all, he knew that was his stiffest competition..
  18. Is Bob West going to vote for Prairie View A&M with his three votes? There has not been a SWAC team receiving votes since Southern's vote count went away a few weeks ago...come on Bobbo! Do Port Arthur proud!
  19. Guess my remarks about a WEAK schedule and a MISLEADING ranking were right... The SLC tends to win at a 90% clip against the SWAC in ball and bat sports. The top teams from the SLC do not lose to the SWAC. I really do not think much of Lamar this year, I don't think much of your chances in the SLC. Yes, it's one loss - but LU does not have many chances to really impress outside of SLC play.
  20. Got to get some more and more OOC wins against top competition. Lamar's RPI is 112. May have the gaudy records, but the typical SOS we see from the Cards is going to do them in.
  21. I can agree with that! Marlin and McConathy have some of the bigger OOC wins in the regular season for the SLC over the last few years. Kaspar, not so much. McConathy, who should be included in the group, also has the NCAA win. SHSU only plays two guarantee games a year - this year, it was UTEP and Texas A&M. In previous years, it has include Texas, Baylor (who we beat), Saint Louis (who we beat), Nebraska (who we beat), Florida (rematch of NCAA game) and Oklahoma State. I apologize if we do not whore ourselves out, but Marlin uses his connections with mid-major coaches to play mid-major foes (i.e Loyola Marymount, Fresno State, North Texas, UC-Irvine, Louisiana-Lafayette, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wright State, Western Michigan, etc). These are the teams we want to play, are willing to play us home-and-home and we have a good chance of beating both home and away.
  22. SHSU in the mix in the NCBWA poll...with Lamar. [Hidden Content]
  23. You guys still have General Studies...are you sure? SHSU has a lot of freshmen and sophomore student-athletes who list General Studies, but that's because they are "undecided" or that is what you are before you can be "officially" accepted into Criminal Justice and Education colleges (pending major in Edu). You need a few hours under your belt before moving into those degree plans. I didn't think any of the Texas SLC schools had General Studies...
  24. Well, the chance to visit the refineries is over by the time LU tips off and the students don't show up to Montagne with similar numbers...may also have something to do with the lack of winning, which as we all know, is not something LU has been accustomed to since moving into this 'weak' conference from the Sun Belt.
  25. There's boosters abound... SHSU is currently in the midst of a $1.5M drive for the men's basketball program and while basketball is student-driven, that means we will have new generations of fans who remember the great time(s) they had at SHSU basketball games.
