  1. I just gave you an honest assessment of our program, saying we've only really had two years where we "finished" and that our program tends not to finish, after someone on this board called us "powerhouses". Yep, I said our team did not meet that high level that was mentioned by a Cardinal fan. LUFAN -- if you think I am drinking the Kool Aid, I'm sure you are sitting in a section of Montagne that reminds a few of the Cougar fans of a similar section of Hoffheinz. You know what I am talking about.
  2. I'm just going on what our coaches are saying...that this team is progressing towards the end of the season very nicely and should be in form at the end of the season to be in the mix for the SLC championship. That's unusual for SHSU. In fact, outside of 2000 and 2003, I'd say our teams were not ready for March as they possibly peaked a bit soon. If SHSU wins against Lamar at Montagne, I hope you guys actually step outside of that little box most of you are sitting in and realize that SHSU is turning the corner quickly.
  3. Mediocre? This team continues to improve and is only going to get better. Sure, not one of the best SHSU teams under Marlin, but at the end of the season, they may be pretty close to reaching that group.
  4. BW got four responses already and is trying to make it to Beaumont on Wednesday. Keep it up, SHSU and LU fans! [Hidden Content]
  5. Wasn't that the score of the Arizona-Houston game yesterday? Or is that just what it felt like after the Cougars had a huge meltdown in the final 18 seconds of regulation?
  6. Latest blog mentions SHSU-Lamar game, mostly pub for Bearkats. Give it some attention, so he may "preview" LU-SHSU later in the week! [Hidden Content]
  7. If the game were in Huntsville, the advantage would be to the Kats at this time. Since it's not - advantage, Cards. I am interested to see how the SHSU women do on our home floor against LU though. Bearkat women, historically awful, have been playing some good ball at the JC in H'ville.
  8. No, but figured you would appreciate a UNLV mention on this board.
  9. Unlike UNLV, they have sniffed a bowl game in this millennium.
  10. Guys, you know what to do --throw a few responses the way of BW, RT and company on the Chron! The more views, the more hits -- the better for the coverage of our programs. Please get the word out! [Hidden Content]
  11. That's DHKAT. There was a guy that brought up a very valid point about Woodard and partial scholarships.
  12. 2877 according to the box.
  13. Road trips to SFA, SHSU and UTSA will be tough. Figure both of those losses will come from two of these three games, hopefully a loss in Huntsville.
  14. While it was a Saturday game, remember this -- it was Billy Tubbs who pushed heavily for the move of the SLC to Wednesdays from Thursdays. We now have to deal with C-USA and Big 12 scheduling, since Dale Kelley oversees officiating for those conferences as well as the SLC, Sun Belt and WAC. We are third fiddle now as far as officiating goes on our night. On Thursdays, we were second fiddle to the WAC and had better officiating. The SBC switched to Thursdays this past year, believe the announcement came after the SLC made their move (flipped with the women) and looking at a few box scores, they have different officials than I've seen before. Saw a game recently that had two officials from major conference, that would have never worked a SBC game before. Saturdays are always going to be tough since many conferences play on Saturday. I'd seen two of the three officials you guys had in Lake Charles. Seen most of the officials in this region numerous times over, as I've been in a fair share of SLC and SBC venues over the last five, six years. Weds/Sat is good for several purposes, but for budgeting, it sure hurts our problems. Some teams instead of going to SLU and Nich on one weekend are now making that swing on two separate trips. That has not got to be cost friendly. I'd be interested in attendance comparisons between Weds (this year) and Thurs (last year).
  15. G-W and PV are home-and-home agreements signed before Lamar finalized football and the timeframe for football. Do not believe Woodard was even hired when one, if not both of the agreements were signed. While Billy Tubbs calls many shots, I do not think he was already putting together a football schedule w/o a head coach. Woodard has changed his story before, just reading the article on scheduling. A few teams he announced before are no longer there. A few have different names (i.e North Dakota is now North Dakota State), though that may be chalked up to the Port Arthur News, which does not have the best FCS columnist in the land on their paper (see Gary Laney of the Beaumont Enterprise). Of course, Woodard made some statements earlier that had people excited which did not turn out so true (i.e playing an FBS team in year one -- HA! Why would an FBS play a team that does nothing as far as counting as a bowl counter?).
  16. I know that -- my question pertains to where are they on the schedule. They were once in there. Ray Woodard's schedule progression is very confusing.
  17. Incorrect -- SHSU is not playing LU in 2010 per a source I talked to. LU is not listed until 2011. We're booked solid (Baylor, WIU, Gardner-Webb and PV). Also, I swear that was NORTH DAKOTA and not North Dakota State. Where's Northern Colorado?
  18. This is surprising. South Alabama has quite a few exhibitions lined up for their "exhibition year". Would think Lamar could find someone, whether paying a club team (and there's several in the vicinity -- UT-Arlington and New Orleans) or getting one of those academies (i.e Hargrave Military Academy) or maybe even a JV squad (there are still a few in the area too -- I believe Abilene Christian, for one and the University of Tennessee).
  19. UNO is not dropping athletics. I'm pretty certain from all the banter I hear down in the Pelican State, which I do hear quite a bit. They listed potential budget cuts from the Crescent City school and the Chancellor couldn't list them without listing athletics. That's a potential nightmare. The document said nothing about ELIMINATING athletics, it just said cutting, such as cutting funds. Love the media.
  20. They started a club program this past year ([Hidden Content]) and that team will play a full 10-game schedule next year against other club teams. And yes, they do have a facility - Tad Gormley Stadium, about 3 mi. from campus. Many programs, including Nicholls, started as club programs. UNO last had a club program around the time of the school's founding that ran into the early 1970s.
  21. Thank goodness for the permanently bypass link (if it works), I can not stand splash pages!
  22. I foresee this being pretty one-sided for the foreseeable future. It's those Title IX sports where LU will do their damage, particularly XC and T&F -- which is six sports in itself. McNeese will take football (at least for the first few years), but outside of that, the Pokes are going to be hard pressed to get the 'W's.
  23. One of two things happened here... 1) Hurricane Ike forced the second game of our home-and-home with Prairie View A&M back to 2010, which it did -- not sure if the Lamar deal had been signed at that point. 2) Head coach Ray Woodard spoke before a contract was signed, which he has showed before that he's willing to do (i.e Bevil signing announcement before he signed). And...well, we all know we "punk" you academically...there's a reason LU has never been considered in the flagship argument. Never a word. SHSU reigns supreme in the TSUS when it comes to producing doctoral degrees and research. (Credit: [Hidden Content])
  24. Well, Woodard was wrong. SHSU is not playing Lamar in 2010 after all. We're set for 2010. at Baylor, at WIU, vs Gardner-Webb, vs Prairie View A&M
  25. And what do you call... 4,927 for SFA-SHSU? ??? Got to figure that was at least 3K?
