More money is on the way for the TX schools as it seems all of them have passed in the last year or so, fees that will generate more money towards athletics. Now, if this just goes to help keep up with the increased costs from year to year (insurance, increased scholarship costs, etc) or if this goes above and beyond, is probably a different story from school to school.

The reason I shared that was more along the lines of how humorous it was that the schools that many thought would be quicker to add football were not necessarily the ones to add football. It was not meant as an attack on Lamar. If anything, I was just trying to get UNLV worked up...the confused individual that he is. The people on my "home board" have a blocked view of reality which has led many of the more informed and "in the know" posters to retreat to private messages. They ignore positives (gawd forbid anyone on that board ever acknowledge our athletic department as the tops in the SLC when it comes to all things academic or conference championships by teams that are not football, basketball or baseball) and simply beat the same ole dead horse...the most humorous of which is Pat, who is running people under the bus, the same individuals who provided him filming opportunities like no other photog has had in the SLC and provided him great video to pitch to potential individuals who he seeks jobs from. Guess you forget about the people who got you where you are today. That's successful networking.

If Lamar was on the fast track to FBS, they would not be allowed to be a football member of the league, especially as quickly as they are. Both the Commissioner and the decision makers in the league would not allow such a stop-over on the school's way to FBS. Remember this article from Nov. 30, 2006...? It's coming back into discussion on numerous boards around the league and on the national stage as we discuss whether or not UTSA will actually play a down of SLC football. I really have a hard time believing they will, especially due to the timeframe of their playing football. [Hidden Content] Funny enough, when seeking out this article on AGS -- I came across a post which had a poll regarding the return of football. Lamar only had one vote. Top vote-getters were East Tennessee State (which is not at this time) and Georgia State (who is bringing it back). [Hidden Content]

SHSU has an interlocking of sorts as well, which is our official school watermark, etc.

No question about it. Also would mean we won a few on the road in SLC play, which will only be a good sign for the future. Just hope we knock off the #1 and #2 team once (if not twice) along the way. Hope for some close games, so our players get used to that clutch time in the SLC.

#175 SHSU 17-12, 10-6 I'd take that or a bit better all things considering with this young squad.

63 (if not more when they go FBS) scholarships in the state of Texas (and surrounding states). It just gets tougher and tougher on these coaches to recruit. They are going to have to work harder and go outside of their old boundaries.

ABR, Coachacola, MFFL... No thread about this? ??? LU football will have players today.
-
Yes, but consider these people may have ignored the results. LU losing at TXST? Very intriguing...I can see LU splitting with SHSU, if our team continues to grow in the right direction. I do not see a Marlin team getting swept by the Cards, but you guys are presently the class of the conference, so perhaps...

What makes UNO bad? They started season 0-4 without their best player (all-SBC pick/only returning starter) and only had two players on the roster at the time with Div I experience. Completely new team from the one that beat you last year. They are 4-1 with him back out there, including a win over crosstown rival Tulane. Team may not end up being so bad.

Red Raiders Lose on Road to Tough Cardinals Team

Remind me when Texas and LSU last came to Montagne... And to get a Big 12, SEC or whatever school -- you are going to have to do a 2 for 1 deal. That's how SHSU, Lamar, NWST, Centenary and company all got deals with Texas Tech. Sometimes, it helps when "one gets away" as there are coaches who want to play games in the hometown of members of their team. That has opened up some windows for teams that may not get a visit from XXX school. SHSU's best OOC home match-ups in terms of name schools in the last five years have been Fresno State, Southern Miss and Texas Tech. You guys have had, what? Wyoming, BYU and Texas Tech? We're both doing fairly decent compared to the rest of the group. -
MFFL -- Lamar dropped because they went 1-2 during the week since last Sunday -- losses to Indiana State and Louisville with the win over Texas Tech. I am not sure people that vote took the loss to Indiana State into account in last week's polls, but it resonated in this week's poll. I would not be too surprised by the end result of this week's balloting.

Lamar figures to have shot at Lucas’ son

How much does John Lucas protege Damon Stoudamire joining the Rice staff helps the case of Jai Lucas going to Tudor? -
I said on KatFans.com, "And we were all expecting LU over Texas Tech. It's not much a surprise. Good win, but not a surprise."
-
Lower than that. Why do I want to say it's six?
-
Several things... 1) Sagarin is not a poll 2) SFA's win came on the road, which is worth more than a LU home win 3) RPI has SFA at 85, Lamar at 94 (Tech is 75). Why should a team automatically be ahead of the team they beat in a rating system? That's one game of what will ultimately be 30ish plus.

Hey Woodard -- play by the NCAA rules! Bob West's wording = NCAA violation You are not supposed to announce individuals signing before they do ink on the doted line. That is what we can an NCAA violation. Bob West did you no favors. I'm sure someone has already sent this one into the NCAA, SLC, Lamar's compliance office, etc just because there are vultures out there looking to run someone under the bus at any glance. Great job, Bobbo! Way to look out for the "hometown team"...

Jasmin Henderson Inks with Lady Cardinals Basketball

Scouting service I get ranks her No. 398 with that Miletic JUCO signee at No. 58 amongst JUCOs. LU is ranked #2 in the SLC by the scouting service. Not slamming you guys because at 398, atleast by this service, still better than much of anything the SLC gets. Recruiting rankings, who needs them? 1. TEXAS STATE (-SAN MARCOS) 2. LAMAR 3. CENTRAL ARKANSAS -
SHSU beat Texas Tech in Lubbock. What did they do? Bobby Knight gave us a 2 for 1. He loves Bob Marlin and a few of the other mid-major coaches in the region. BM is one of the coaches he took under his wing. BK took the SHSU coaching staff out to eat with his own when he came to Huntsville. What a class act!

MFFL -- don't look now but that very bad Miami (OH) team that you were dogging is right on your heels! And they may in fact pass you the next go around since not sure how much the Indiana St loss registered with those who vote... 1. Gonzaga (31) 6-0 775 1 2. Davidson 6-1 744 2 3. St. Mary's 6-1 683 3 4. Illinois State 8-0 682 4 5. Butler 7-0 669 5 6. Creighton 5-2 569 7 7. College of Charleston 7-1 515 14 8. Western Kentucky 5-2 473 20 9. Arkansas-Little Rock 5-1 444 6 10. I added the win to our OOC listing... Worth noting, quotes from TXST's head coach after their loss to Rice... "If we think we're going to outscore Texas, we're crazy." "We didn't stop anybody, ever." "We didn't play any team defense. I don't think Rice will score 100 points the rest of the year."
-
When do we start putting more stock in the RPI? I was once told that you pay attention to Sagarin earlier and then switch to RPI as the season goes along... RPI has them at 41 and Cards at 46.

Considering I watch a fair share of women's hoops and talk to coaches on a regular basis, I am not too surprised by Lamar's results. That's a team on the rise. I must admit I am confused on how good ULM women's team is. Guess I'll find out next week when I see them. And you should know -- our women's team has NEVER been good at Div I. Decent, but not really good. Got to turn that around at some point... Another close loss to an out of conference foe on the road. I'm really excited honestly. Told you guys time and time again, that SHSU had the most turnover we've ever had and the youngest team since Wade, Griffin and company were all freshmen. Those guys ended up being a special group. This team could end up being special too. They are learning and while they are not producing the wins, very competitive. This team is going to be good when they get it all together, whether it's in conference play or next season. I doubt we'll fall too far from the top. This is SHSU afterall.
