  1. ULM drew 10,388 for their HOMECOMING this past weekend against North Texas. Drew under 10,000 against Alabama A&M. Only real "draw" this season was 21,929 against La-Lafayette. Look for the average to continue to head down...if it weren't for ULL contest, they'd have nothing above the SLC by any stretch...
  2. Some quick facts... SHSU has been lucky this year -- we got McNeese (travels well) and we drew well for our season opener. We still have rivalry games against SFA and TXST left at home. We typically draw in the 9000-9750 range. UCA is drawing over capacity. They jam that place in and need to expand! They have a motivated fan base and with their success, things have been at a pretty high level there... TXST -- what a joke. They want to go FBS and we're outdrawing them!
  3. Wonder who? Sent ABR3 a PM not too long after sharing my thoughts. Our head coach is 0-7 against UCA and McNeese, the top two teams. He's also 4-0 against SFA, which does count for something. Our fan base is pretty upset and if they weren't calling for his head last week, this week most certainly are. Will give him credit, he's consistently had a winning program went from 3-7 to 6-5 to 7-4. Would like to think he'll go 7-3 this year, yet this was the year we all thought we were going to the playoffs and barring the crazy things in the SLC to really hit an all-time high and the Kats winning out, that won't happen...
  4. From SportingNews...SFA apparently is in the top Southland community when it comes to sports, followed by SHSU and Lamar...the rating system is explained below...I put UT-Arlington and UTSA alone due to being in major cities and being bunched together with other schools and professional teams, etc... Our Best Sports City rankings, which look at the 12 months from roughly October 2007 to October 2008, are based on point values assigned to various categories, including but not limited to won-lost records, postseason appearances, applicable power ratings, number of teams and attendance. Southland 153. Nacogdoches, Texas (SFA) 161. Huntsville, Texas (SHSU) 175. Beaumont, Texas (Lamar) 191. Hammond, Louisiana (SLU) 213. Natchitoches, Louisiana (NWST) 216. Lake Charles, Louisiana (McN) 224. Thibodaux, Louisiana (Nicholls) 225. Corpus Christi, Texas (A&M-CC) 229. San Marcos, Texas (TXST) 235. Conway, Arkansas (UCA) Etc 3. Dallas-Fort Worth (UT-Arlington) 33. San Antonio (UTSA) [Hidden Content]
  5. Hardman is very impressive... What I do not get is how McNeese had 19 shots, Lamar saved three and only let two goals past. McNeese must not have been firing on target -- that's 14 shots that didn't go near the goal compared to Lamar's eight (nine shots, one goal and no saves by Pokes)...must've been some pretty off-target kicking last night... SHSU went through the same tribulations in year one and two. We saw the scores come down and the difference in shots come down as well...
  6. Guess I got my dates mixed up -- Tuesday. [Hidden Content]
  7. Next Monday in Katy, Texas -- the SLC will announce the preseason polls and teams in addition to having the coaches available -- so look for a nice influx of media coverage around the SLC region for that one.
  8. Come visit this board come recruiting/signing day -- a few on this board are known for touting nationally ranked recruiting classes and well quite frankly, that No. 3 ranked class a few years back did nothing, but well -- same old, same old.
  9. Per the website... The State of '08 is a ranking of every program in every state.. based mostly on recent success (the last five years) mixed in with subjective factors such as conference prestige, historical success, and overall program direction.
  10. Ranks of the 20 Div I teams (HBU was not counted) by CollegeHoopsNet. [Hidden Content] 1. Texas 2. Texas A&M 3. Texas Tech 4. Baylor 5. UTEP 6. Houston 7. North Texas 8. SAM HOUSTON - Last year's Bearkats fizzled out after a great start, and late-season SLC tournament success has been hard to come by recently. But overall, this has been the most consistently solid SLC team over the last decade, and one of the only league teams capable of knocking off big-name non-conference opponents. 9. Rice 10. STEPHEN F AUSTIN - SFA's great 26 win season, which included wins over Oklahoma and Top 100 San Diego, came out of nowhere considering the Lumberjacks were a sub-200 RPI team the previous three seasons. SFA is the 2009 favorite to accomplish what they couldn't last year, winning the Southland tournament. 11. TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI - Ronnie Arrow did a masterful job in his tenure at TAMU-CC, turning a green D1 program into a 20-win program. But after making the Dance in 2007, Arrow left, and its hard to tell whether the program can regain a decent level of success under Perry Clark. 12. TCU 13. LAMAR - In the last 7 seasons, Lamar has finished .500 or better in the SLC six times, but have never really been able to put together a dangerous postseason run. 14. UT-ARLINGTON - After making the NCAAs last year, UTA is once again one of the league favorites. In the previous 9 seasons though, the Mavs won just a single SLC Tourney game. 15. SMU 16. UTSA - Once one of the more consistently solid Southland teams, UTSA simply hasn't been good the past few seasons. A 2009 .500 finish in the league would be a step in the right direction. 17. UT-Pan American 18. TEXAS STATE - In '06 & '07, this was one of the worst programs in the country, with just 8 D1 wins. That makes last year's 10-16 D1 record shockingly good. 19. Texas Southern 20. Prairie View A&M *Houston Baptist will also join D1 this season
  11. Just a few more days til Friday practices...or earlier if you used the loophole that is being exploited around the country. Everything in the NCAA has a loophole or waiver, think I've discussed it with you a bit before ABR3. Waivers for waivers! Anyone know when SLC BKB Media Day is? Someone told me at one point...that's when they'll announce the preseason polls and teams...figure it's this week or next. ABR3 -- heading to Hot Springs in the AM. Will be checking out the Summit Arena, attached to that convention center they have there in what I am told is the most beautiful city in Arkansas.
  12. We knew the Bobcats had some firepower -- problem is they are so freaking inconsistent. I fully expect them to drop and egg next week and watch Central Arkansas put up 50+ points on that awful defense (which nearly let McN win the game). I still figure McNeese will win the AQ (UCA is not eligible) unless the Bearkats beat them next week. Then, it's all a crapshoot!
  13. Lamar and TXST are at 4-1. SHSU and UTSA are 3-2 in the SLC West. SFA still rules the roost out in the SLC East...
  14. You brushed UTSA aside...you are now staring up at the top two, TXST and SFA. Not sure how that does not make sense. Thought you were a UNLV guy, not an Aggie like another poster on here...
  15. Wow, ashamed of you Cards fans for letting me be the one to post this information that is atleast 12 hours old... SAN ANTONIO — Former Lamar University star Chris Stroud moved into position to make a big jump on the PGA Tour money list, shooting a 6-under 64 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead after the second round of the Texas Open. The 26-year-old Stroud, 209th on the money list in an injury-plagued season, had a 10-under 130 total on the La Cantera Golf Club’s Resort Course. A two-time All-American and four-time Southland Conference player of the year at Lamar in Beaumont, Stroud had three birdies and a bogey on the first five holes, added a birdie on No. 9 and also birdied 11, 13 and 15. [Hidden Content]
  16. I have no reason to hide -- that's called a big win for the Cards, shows the Cards with that dominating sweep are just outside of the top two -- TXST and SFA. UNLV, you have to realize -- I don't hide.
  17. Good point - ABR3. Lamar will not be seen as a legitimate T&F school until they have a legitimate track and field facility...and didn't someone say they may trim scholarships from T&F and/or tennis when football gets added?
  18. SHSU has online classes and correspondence classes. Heck, we even have satellite centers (we may be seeing SHSU-The Woodlands in a few years, the Chancellor is very well aware of our satellite facility in that neck of the woods). However, we do not have the major percentage that Lamar does... Funny -- no mention of SHSU until you and ABR3 did so. I'm not trying to place SHSU above Lamar or vice-versa. Did not even bring SHSU into the argument at all until it was brought about by you guys... If you read my response, I did say the program was a "big boom" for you er Lamar (keep forgetting your an Aggie). I'm very well aware of the program and it's a great thing for the school...
  19. I'm just speaking the truth, are I not? That not allowed on this board? Sure, I can be opinionated and I will be, but the fact lies in the release if you read between the lines...figure an Aggie can do that.
  20. With "more than 3,200 certified teachers from more than 200 school districts across the state are enrolled in the program that began one year ago", are we really looking at 10,250 or so students actually on campus? I think LU's count is a bit misleading...though it does give LU something to stick it's chest out about, which I can understand, considering this program is a big boom for them. Are these 3,200 contributing to the athletic fees? Don't think anyone gave me an answer. Doubt they are, so the enrollment increase is still not helping the bottom line of the AD...
  21. Has RW said how many players he'd like to sign this year (2009) compared to 2010?
  22. This thread may catch you up... [Hidden Content]
  23. I did respond to the win over UT-Arlington. You guys won't win conference, I don't think based on the volleyball I have seen thus far this year and the results Lamar has had against those same teams. UNLV -- I actually get into and follow the Title IX sports and other sports that behoove you. Even get some inside info about UNLV (my prom date/best friend works in Vegas)...
  24. As I said -- best teams in the league are TXST, SFA and maybe UTSA. Kats beat UT-Arlington, shows how bad they are. Lamar may be able to get the home win vs TXST when they come to Montagne.
  25. Well with soccer, you haven't won in conference yet, have you? We're all wrong with predictions. I bet that two or three years ago, some of the football gung-ho community on this board never though they'd ever see the day that LU would have a football coach and ramping up for some Cardinal football again... I'm right on a lot of things (check out my SLC football predictions on AGS )...but there's plenty that I am wrong on (and my wife will attest for that, just as I hope she does for her own wrongs).
