News on the OC and DC at Lamar University

Told you guys about Mainord weeks ago...he knew he was heading to LU and we replaced him with Jonathan Cooper (a former Bearkat All-American). Hinshaw though is the one that catches my eye... -
Sam Houston State University has also taken in more than 200 students from Lamar University in Beaumont. Both schools are part of the Texas State University System. [Hidden Content]

Couldn't tell -- didn't have trunks loaded and things loaded on top of the car. Doubt they were evacuating at this point. Saw the buses at Ford Arena. No one was moving just yet.
-
Those were not Louisiana people -- because I had no problems once I got 10 miles of New Orleans. No problems in Baton Rouge, none in Lake Charles, Lafayette, etc. Beaumont is where we got it bad...I'd say 85% of the plates in that area were Texans. Not many Louisiana residents at that point...
-
I had more problems driving through Beaumont than evacuating from New Orleans...thanks for tacking an hour extra on my evacuation today! So...why all the traffic in Beaumont? Construction still, eh? UNLV -- if you want to be FBS and have a big stadium, you got to get those issues fixed.

Worth noting that the ECU-SHSU figure was top 10 (I believe #7 or #8) in school history for attendance while HSU-UCA figure was #2 in school history. Both against sub-Div I foes on a Thursday night... SHSU attendance got off to the right foot and with our top three SLC draws - McNeese, SFA and San Marcos -- coming to town plus PV, we may have a new attendance record for a season this year. UTSA doesn't have great fan support for basketball, which is their bread and butter despite having a very large enrollment. Same goes for UT-Arlington. Wonder what Lamar will draw in football if your program does not win right away after the excitement wears off...

Lamar FB Referenced in CSN Article

SFA is down because they have been thrown coaches left and right the last few years. They try to build up quick with transfers and then they have problems with them. A lot of it has been the bad hire to start all these tumultous changes. A lot of then wanted to get Todd Whitten, who has now led SHSU to three wins over his alma mater, SFA -- including the biggest win in the history of the series! SHSU is doing a good job of preparing -- which I've noted before. Our recruiting base has expanded because everyone and their mother is recruiting Texas hard. -

Not allowed anymore, got to have two years to transfer... And quite frankly, you'd like to see a QB around a bit long enough to develop a reputation on the national level, going beyond the conference. I just do not think McCown or Long did anything, but continue our history of being a hot spot for solid QB transfers (add Chaloupka and hopefully soon, Bomar) to that list... I do not think any Kat signal-caller developed the same reputation nationally or in the conference as guys like Armanti Edwards (App St/SoCon), Eric Sanders (UNI/Gateway) and players of the like who stuck around for more than a year and led their teams to multiple deep runs in the playoffs...
-
This is a QB's league...the only school with a ? mark at QB is Southeastern. Even SFA at 0-11 last year has a kid with some skills and offensive firepower...
-
Solid QB in the SLC? He'd only have one year in the conference (2011). Not sure he'll be able to have enough time to develop a reputation as a "solid" quarterback...and that's without addressing the offensive line. He'd have to have a Nathan Brown-like performance for a few weeks of SLC play before a reputation would develop...
-
Got to love the NCAAs -- waivers and special exemptions for everything! Question is whether or not he gets it.
-
Correct, since he graduated in 2006. His five-year window... 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011

LU Soccer Team Shut Out In Opener

Must explain my compliments on the new futbol coach for being innovative and really liking his style in another post. I like where he's coming from and it may allow him to find ways to bring the best out of his players physically... You guys should know better. In OOC play, I'm a full backer of SLC schools. The only way to improve our league is to get the 'W' on the board, whether it VB, soccer, tennis, whatever... We've seen enough 10-0 blowouts in SLC futbol in OOC play. If we can curb those for all and throw more 'W's on the board, that makes me happy... -

I was just picking at ABR3 because he didn't say why it was a good showing...and wanted to see what counter-argument he had. I like to rattle him some because I know he is very proficient at basketball and football knowledge. Wanted him to break down the 'other' futbol for me... I am hoping the SLC soccer product is more improved this year. The win by UTSA over Houston was a nice win to put in the back pocket for the SLC. The Cougars were elusive last year, defeating SLC schools SHSU by 1 goal, TXST by 4 goals and UTSA by 3 goals last year. As to the reference by ABR3 that SHSU would not do much better, we have unfortunately not seen the Red Raiders since they narrowly escaped Huntsville with a 3-2 win in OT in 2005. Soccer is one of the sports that struggles at SHSU. Our biggest win was our run through the 2005 SLC tournament and a victory against Mississippi State in 2006. Perhaps a new coach can make a difference for us, just like you are hopeful they can for you...schedule is definitely built for a better record. -

What makes this "not a bad showing"...? The final score? Lamar actually getting a shot compared to 24 for the Red Raiders? Playing within four of the #7 team in the Big XII? Soccer is a weird sport if you did not go or watch on TV to get a good feel of "showing"... -
SHSU Given Approval to Develop New Programs
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Sorry to hear that you do not get any news from your own PR department...keeping you guys out in the dark as it relates to that kind of information is part of the problem that I have brought up in the past as far as Lamar "no-showing" in Austin when some system issues were going down... On another TSUS note, the folks in San Marcos got their baseball/softball complex approved. -
Great news for SHSU. Already doing pretty well academically -- the TSUS gave us approval to begin looking into adding the below programs. While the engineering programs and nursing are of note, all the additional doctoral programs are of even more note because that is what pushes you up the tier system... [Hidden Content]

I'm curious how long they'll keep Riley as the head coach. The Ladyjacks have high expectations on them.
