  1. See if you can pick out a Cardinal in the bunch...from the McNeese web site:
  2. You do realize the individual you are quoting is named, "TheRevSFA". Wonder if he's affiliated with a school in Nacogdoches...? Sure, there are two SHSU posters who said 'toss Lamar', but those people are disgruntled with Tubbs for putting SLC basketball on Wednesday, which will only make the basketball officiating in our conference worse...
  3. This is the one I knew about... Kats in need of a coach — Sam Houston State is currently searching for a replacement to fill the vacancy left when wide receivers coach Tommy Mainord recently accepted the offensive coordinator position at Lamar. Mainord has been on the SHSU staff for the past four seasons, serving as the Bearkats’ running back coach before switching to receivers in 2007. Before coming to Huntsville, Mainord also worked as an assistant under Whitten at Tarleton State for six years. “We are excited for Tommy. He has been with me for about nine years, and he deserves this opportunity,†Whitten said. “I think Lamar is getting a great coach, and it was just one of those opportunities he couldn’t pass up. “The only problem for me is the timing, so I have to get a coach hired in the next few days. I’m working on it, and hopefully we will have somebody in the next week.†[Hidden Content]
  4. Trying to remember if UCA had anyone during their first year of SLC play -- may have had some second teamers, so it's still three more years (2011) til we see that, if not four (2012). Preseason teams for football are like the other sports -- players get the 'bump' over if they were on the postseason team from the year before and that takes up a majority of the spots.
  5. Word on the street is that Lamar will travel to Hammond, La to play Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 18. Nothing finalized. Figure LU will get a home game on Sept. 11 which will be sandwiched by these two Louisiana SLC trips for the Cards.
  6. If Lamar wanted to play McNeese -- they had no other choice except week one. Apparently, the Pokes have every other week filled -- at Missouri and two FCS games (Southern and Cal Poly). My gut tells me the people at Lamar really wanted to schedule the Cowboys for their first season since that is going to be their biggest rival, so the Cards were handcuffed in to the opening date. Playing McNeese was a very important piece to what the program wanted for year one, this was a no-brainer. Now, if Lamar plays two weeks in a row on the road to open the season, you can complain. At the very least, the contest is close enough for the Card faithful to make it to.
  7. You must not be reading much...I'm always on numerous sports boards, talking sports. I'm not constantly running down Lamar. If you think I'm running down Lamar, you have apparently not seen remarks I've made about two institutions with the acronyms of 'TSU' in the state of Texas. I did say LU is doing a great job in other sports, but I brought up the basketball thing, just because we've been treated to fans from your schools numerous times on the sport -- whether it be 'reliving' the glory days or 'nationally ranked' recruiting classes. This was before you were around (and on the 'other' Lamar board).. Luckily, MFFL has grown up some and your fans are starting to get football crazed (as am I -- love when new schools come on board!)...I really enjoy your fan base, because for the most part, you guys are really an entertaining and enlightening group. Also, a few of the 'bad apples' from other SLC boards apparently don't know much about this board and do not clog it up with the typical drivel...
  8. Should we call this game, Lamar's fan indoctrination to FCS football...? McNeese fans are up there with Montana fans on how to run a tailgate, knowledge of the game and all that jazz. This will be a great introduction to the FCS landscape and of course, hopefully renew the rivalry on a high level... Lamar will get to see game one, where they stand and what they will need to do in order to reach the top of the conference, considering McNeese should still be amongst the powers in 2010.
  9. Lamar will travel to Lake Charles, La. to face McNeese State... McNeese Release: [Hidden Content] Lamar Release: [Hidden Content]
  10. Woodard is at SLC Media Days...Commish Burnett led off with Lamar, introduced Woodard, Burnett talked about their history (four-time champ) during his opening address today. Watching it live on SLC web site...
  11. Good news for the SLC! More television coverage! 16 basketball games, a football package and championships from other major team sports. Looks as if the SLC will work out deals with various stations throughout the SLC region and produce these games for those stations. [Hidden Content]
  12. I was just poking fun at you guys... Riddle me this, how many LU students were a) alive during those wins and how many students actually know LU won a few games in the tournament?
  13. To remind the sect of Lamar fans that constantly remind other fans how your basketball program is Holier than Thou, that your not all you guys stick our your chest to be... I'm not saying all LU fans do this, but for awhile, all we got on our board is rhetoric about how LU is this great basketball program with all this great history, when in fact, the LU of the last 20 years has not done much of anything -- not that SHSU has either, but you get the point...
  14. I know Lamar has done well in terms of conference titles. You guys are doing sterling and have continued to improve...no questions there. SHSU is limited to tournament titles (baseball, softball), a handful of track and field (think four women, two men) and a women's golf title. UNLV was talking NCAA-wise...
  15. Most prestigious programs in NCAA since 1984-85 per ESPN. Here's the Southland schools ranks. The school must have been in the NCAA awhile, hence the reason Central Ark and A&M-CC are not in this...Lamar is 221nd overall and 9th amongst SLC schools... T-157. Texas-San Antonio T-185. McNeese State T-201. Sam Houston State T-214. Northwestern State T-214. Stephen F. Austin T-237. Southeastern Louisiana T-241. Nicholls State T-241. Texas State T-221. Lamar T-260. 16. Two things... 1) SHSU has placed the most individuals on the Commissioners Honor Roll for three or four years running, all without a General Studies major. Yes, we have kids who are 'General Studies', but we have a few programs that do not accept students until their sophomore, if not junior year at Sam. 2) SHSU has won NCAA games in baseball, softball and football since 2004 in the postseason. How many has Lamar won?
  17. Clearly jealous of what? SHSU has led the conference in academic accolades for the last four years (or so) while being the top athletic institution three of those four years. Our institution is not jealous by any means, especially since we have no interest in playing second fiddle (nor will we) to any TSUS institution.
  18. I would never compare the budgets of Texas schools to those of Louisiana schools, when talking SLC. The schools in Louisiana have been operating with one hand tied behind their back for a long time due to how funding is distributed in the state. They are finally making some headway, but do not have the flexibility or the deep pockets that their Texas counterparts are allowed in terms of fees and other monies that can go to collegiate athletics.
  19. When did I attack Billy Tubbs? I was clearly responding to a post which stated that Billy Tubbs is not popular at SHSU. Were remarks I made on the attack? Not at all. I stated that many at SHSU feel that Tubbs pushes an agenda that he feels will take the Southland Conference to the next level. However, that same group does not think the 'agenda' achieved has the desired impact that Tubbs believes will play out... TigersVoice, sorry if I offended you, but it is no secret that Tubbs, who is a basketball-oriented guy, has orchestrated many of the moves that have impacted the conference in basketball. He pushed for a neutral site tournament, mirror games in conference play (men on road, women at home and vice-versa) and Weds/Sat scheduling. All of that happened. There are those who will tell you the neutral site tournament has failed, mirror games have not impacted attendance on the whole as they stand pretty similar to where they were for the women (but have negatively impacted a few institutions) and that there are foreseeable problems with Weds/Sat scheduling... If you think my remark were an attack on Tubbs, you are highly mistaken. They were an explanation for those who are too close to Tubbs to see what those not so close to Tubbs think. If I really wanted to attack Tubbs, I'm sure within a few days, I could come up with another information to do so, but that's not in my interest. You won't see me personally attack student-athletes, coaches or administrators -- outside of Todd Graham and Buzz Williams.
  20. You did not do home-and-homes with all the teams in the SLC West. Three of the top four RPI teams (the other being Lamar) were in the West. The teams that made the difference in OOC play -- all in the West. Hard for those not to say that Lamar would have found the same success in the West. In fact, Lamar went 0-1 at those schools while 2-0 at home. Wonder what Lamar's record would be on the road against those schools if they went home-and-home. Got to remember that LU was 14-2 at home while 5-8 on the road. Lamar actually got the 'lightweights' of the SLC on the road. Figure Lamar would've dropped a few more if they had to go to the SLC heavyweights on the road. While Pat has inability to justify his remarks and is a relative newcomer to sports -- I'd say that Lamar goes .500 at best on the road in the SLC West considering the Cards track record of road woes and tougher foes on a more consistent basis than what was seen in the East. Tubbs is not popular in many locales in the Southland Conference. Many feel that he pushes an agenda that does not necessarily positively impact the conference. While he may view it as upgrading the conference, there are those who feel that it does not have the impact Tubbs says it will. Before I even knew a lot about Tubbs (around the time he came back to the SLC), I heard so many negative things about him. He is associated with Lamar and thereby the reason that you'll find people that dislike Lamar.
  21. Cards can't have more than four SLC teams on the schedule in 2010, if not just three. The SLC slate moves up earlier in the calendar year in 2010 because the extra week of playoffs and with eight current SLC teams equating to four SLC games a weekend (with no byes), it will be tough for the Cards to get more than that, unless the SLC is working with LU and teams to move around the games some to fit the Cards in. Will be nice to see LU announcing home-and-homes with OOC squads though...
  22. I know you guys have been picking up interest in tennis as of late... Anahita Jagtiani will join the Dragons next season after transferring from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Jagtiani, a native of Ammedabad, India, posted an 8-2 record while playing fifth and sixth singles and a 5-0 mark in doubles competition for the Southland Conference Champion Lamar Cardinals. 23. I said "I'd love to play for a national championship" -- we can't even if the layout of the land as is at the FBS level. A playoff occurs, you bet the NCAA will come and control the FBS level. They couldn't do it any other way...
  24. Nope. Will not like FBS one-bit unless we are given a seat at the table, for which I do not see happening. I'd love to play for a national championship. While I will support SHSU, I'll have a hard time with it pending what the layout of the land is... And no, coach...not getting under UNLV's skin. I'm hearing it from the sources that matter. We won't play second fiddle to the San Marcos school and never have. Outside of enrollment, they have a hard time saying they have our number down the line...and we don't want to be as big as them -- enrollment or ego.
  25. UNLV... Going to miss playing the Cards. Good thing is we'll see you guys for a few years before we make our move up to FBS, since we refuse to play 'second fiddle' to a school in San Marcos...or so I'm told. I know you guys have handled the clipboard in the TSUS, so eventually...you'll follow the two big brothers up the food chain.
