Lady Cards Volleyball Conference Championship/LU WINS!!!
TexasTerror replied to Dad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The thread title is misleading. Yes, LU beat TXST -- but the teams are tied at 11-2. LU did not take care of things the first time they met. They'll end the season tied more than likely and that's a co-championship. What really matters is the SLC tournament. -
Not sure what to expect at all with your football program. Would love to see the full schedule.
-
We'll see. 2011 is a few years off. Will the newness of it wear off quickly and Ws and Ls come into play? It's all new and exciting for these programs. Time will tell...
-
UCA and McN attendances were where they should be... SLU and Nicholls were lower than usual because they were going HEAD to HEAD against LSU-Alabama. Just ask TXST what happens when the Horns are playing, it's much more worse for those schools. There's areas of Louisiana that completely shut down due to LSU. McNeese has rabid fans who will show up. What will LU draw? I guess I could take shots at the gray hairs that your program is known for at the Montagne, but I'm assuming the students may actually start showing up for a football program.

Lady Cards Volleyball Conference Championship/LU WINS!!!
TexasTerror replied to Dad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Through last weekend...the standings were TXST (11-1), Lamar (9-2), SFA (8-3) and UTSA (8-3). Apparently, I was pretty dead on with my top three being amongst the top four). UTSA had a REALLY bad loss yesterday against Nicholls, so yes -- right now, the top three are now TXST, SFA and Lamar. Figure my prediction was a bit more accurate than anything anyone came out with on this board. Then again, none of you are willing to talk much volleyball outside of discussing Ws and Ls...when we going to talk serve and pass? About liberos and hitting percentages...? -
Lady Cards Volleyball Conference Championship/LU WINS!!!

Huge win, Cards... I do not forsee either of you losing any more SLC matches between now and the conference tournament. Co-conference champs it seems. You each won 3-1 when you played each other at home. What's the next tiebreaker? Points in said matches? Being in first means avoiding SFA, who will be a tough out for either team (especially at home) in the semifinals. -
Jai Lucas leaving the Gators!!!

KatMaster on KatFans says that he'll probably end up at a Big XII school or the Univ of Houston, that he would not go mid-major. No telling. You guys please share if you hear anything. -
Sports Network: Lamar 4th in SLC West

Rice is going to be good under Braun (see their recruiting class?). Will be an interesting match-up for Cards. I think ULL is going to be a real tough foe, especially in the CajunDome. The SBC-SLC match-ups this year should be fun. NT and ULL are both getting a nice dose of SLC this year. -

And I'll add a very possible loss that you have as a 'W' -- Denver. They play a unique style of basketball. They are now into another year of the system and should be a better squad. Cause problems for teams that can't play patient basketball. Isn't Lamar the team that likes to run it? -
Respect for the SLC perhaps? I do not recall having this many teams in the mix nor have we ever had a team as high as SFA is to start the season. This league is improving. Just got to keep to that reputation in OOC play.

Since you guys are waiting on it and UNLV needs an easy way to find it after the season -- second in the SLC West, more than likely behind UT-Arlington. Third seed in conference tournament (behind UTA and SLC East champion).
-
Just remembered that SHSU currently has an athlete playing soccer and women's basketball. Lamar got her over to women's basketball a bit earlier than she intended (Thanks Cards!). She did not play in the exhibition opener. We'll see when she makes her debut with the WBB team.

A bit of a different twist with the predicted order of finish... CONFERENCE CHAMPION: Stephen F. Austin PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH: EAST DIVISION: 1. Stephen F. Austin, 2. Northwestern State, 3. Southeastern Louisiana, 4. Nicholls State, 5. McNeese State, 6. Central Arkansas WEST DIVISION: 1. Texas-Arlington, 2. Sam Houston State, 3. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 4. Lamar, 5. Texas-San Antonio, 6. Texas State Read the link below for more insight into the league from Sports Network... [Hidden Content]

A few years ago -- Bennie Brazell (Westbury HS) won two national championships (if you want to call the FBS one that) with LSU as he got "BCS National Championship" with football and outdoor track and field. Brazell ended up going the 2004 Olympics.

Came in and ruined our Senior Day and attempt to make the SLC tournament. Thanks Cards! LU outshot Kats 14-13. Is that a first? Kats did have a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks had 6 offsides to just 1 for LU. LU made the most of things when they were on the offensive end, getting shots and putting them in. That had to sting late in the game... Congrats Cards on the win... ;D
-
Nicholls is the best team in the SLC at this very point. They are game-ready and will beat SHSU next week in Thibodaux.
-
The numbers look nice, but the interceptions he threw did nothing...57 of 85, both breaking records. At end of day, he'd rather have the win against SHSU. Bearkats have won 7 of 8 against Jacks. Lone win in the last eight game on a 54 yard FG with no time left by a kicker who missed from 25 yards out earlier in the game on two occasions...

Lamar Puts Scare Into Stephen F. Austin Before Falling 1-0

Just does not need to come tomorrow -- Kats need a 'W' to go to the SLC tournament. They are playing good soccer now and could make some noise if they get there... -

Lamar won't score a goal if the ball is on their side of the field the whole time...wouldn't call it a 'score'. And soccer is not like football. You can clearly say a team got dominated in an even a tie. Just go on to those MLS fan boards (bigsoccer.com), ask a head coach after a tie or any of that -- they'll tell you they got dominated if they did. Lamar did not put a scare, outside of keeping the scoreboard close, which is as you acknowledge, the only thing you are familiar with. They got dominated on the field. -

Coachacola, quick soccer lesson...if a team is out-shooting another 23-2, has a corner kick advantage of 9-2, four more offsides...that means that one team was controlling the offensive possession throughout the game. SFA completely dominated in all of those categories, just could not score a goal. LU made it look good because they had nine saves and most of those shots were not on goal, but the Jacks were on their offensive end most of the game and LU was on the defensive end. Stats like that do not lie in soccer... I'm not trying to put down Lamar, just stating that the story is a bit misleading, figured I'd provide direction... -
So, we going to be able to get any inside scoop on how LU does against UTEP today? Noticed you guys were playing at a neutral court. LU and UTEP meeting halfway -- like San Antonio or Austin or something like that? Who has the details? Other close doors that I have found info on today courtesy of Jeff Goodman.. SLU at USM ULM at SHSU Nicholls at USA UTA at SMU

A scare? Sure, the score was 1-0, but SFA outshot Lamar 23-2 in the game and a 9-2 advantage for the Jacks on the corner kicks. SFA dominated the game. And now the Kats host the Cards on Sunday. SHSU needs a win in order to make sure we do not have to wait on the SLU/Nicholls result to make sure we are in the SLC tournament. SHSU is coming off a 3-0 win over McNeese, that's league-leading McNeese. Senior Day. I'm predicting a Kats win, though Lamar may put a scare on us, even if we outshoot them by 15-20. ;D
