  1. As long as your FCS -- look forward to games against the Texas State(-San Marcos), Idaho State, Tennessee State and Alabama State of the world compared to those schools... Even if you go FBS, those schools won't find their way into Beaumont. A likely "home" game in Houston would be possible, just as ULM about their "home game" in Little Rock, Ark against the Razorbacks...
  2. A&M, Oklahoma State and TCU already do a fair job of filling the stands regardless of opponent...not sure how Lamar being there would boost attendance in College Station, Stillwater or Fort Worth. :
  3. You guys are taking things out of context... Obama was asked if he could change something in sports, what would it be...? Or something along those lines. The answer was making a eight-team college football playoff. Isn't that the same thing he said when interviewed by Chris Berman by ESPN a few weeks ago? You Grand Ole Party-Poopers need to calm down!
  4. Note: 2013 is a "12-game year" for FCS teams. Typically, I'd speak negatively to two FBS foes in one year, but the 12 game year allows that flexibility, especially now with all of us playing eight conference games.
  5. Lamar vs SHSU... Or is September 25, 2010...? Think SHSU loves that bye week prior to the SLC opener, so assuming the 18th. You play McNeese on Sept 4 and we play PVA&M on Sept 11, so this looks like our date. Can I get a confirmation? SHSU will add a new QB at semester break that should help our chances in 2010. ;D
  6. MFFL -- young padawan, you are once again, confused. SHSU draws students and 10% of the student body at that (which no other SLC school can claim -- yes your attendance is high, but not students), especially when school is back in session in January. Not too worried about attendance. You dare check the game time? If you would, you would realize that it was yesterday afternoon, while class was still in session. Interesting notion, eh? We had to move the games to 12 and 3 because of the HS Volleyball Regionals that night at our facility. Not sure how a mid-day on Friday game is supposed to draw. Worth noting our WBB crowd was roughly 2,300 yesterday which was twice that of your biggest WBB home crowd last year. MFFL, stop following UNLV's lead. Figure you are bit brighter than that...
  7. Let me talk in UNLV speak..."Don't confuse young padawan MFFL, master UNLV. The force is strong with him, but he is confused"... 1) A&M is FBS. Lamar is FCS. Outside of the rare visit by a military school, there's no visits to FCS institutions by FBS schools. 2) Even if Lamar goes FBS, A&M is done with making visits to schools like LU. They did the whole La-Lafayette thing during the R.C Slocum era, but new times. A&M will pay LU to come to their place and may give them a "home game" in Houston or San Antonio, but that's about it.
  8. FCS community pitching in remarks... [Hidden Content]
  9. LU could not play an FBS in 2010 or at least, it would not count for the FBS team as far as wins toward bowl eligibility. I believe Hawaii is out for 2010 because they are in talks to North Dakota (who will be a bowl counter that year). Central Arkansas plays Hawaii in 2009. Great opening schedule -- if you fill out the rest with sub-Div I or SWAC teams, that wouldn't be a bad thing. This is the best opening schedule...yes, I said the BEST opening schedule for a new FCS team in terms of quality of opponent. May have a few bumps in the road because of the high level of competition, but this team will be battle-tested for when they hit the SLC field in 2011.
  10. Looks more like 16 in 12 days. They and the Dallas Diesel are the two local semi-pro teams that hit up the area. They probably have two teams considering the amount of players they have in terms of getting those game in. Wonder what the cost to get them to play a team is...
  11. Looking at the box score, it looks as if SHSU played the same team. SHSU's box does not include full names, but looking at last names -- seems like Chandi Jones, Melissa Abraham and Dominique Thomas -- their top three, all played. Abraham has been on Houston Jaguars for years. Chandi Jones is the former UH great and Amanda Curl (did not play vs SHSU), she's coach Curl's daughter, isn't she? These travel teams are very interesting. I wish women's hoops did what men's hoops did and not allow games against AAU. Wish it was all NAIA, Div II, Div III or foreign universities (like when SHSU men played the Ottawa Gee-Gees).
  12. McNeese 87-74 Houston Jaguars SHSU 82-81 Houston Jaguars And yes, SHSU was picked dead last in the SLC and beat them. Of course, it depends which roster you got from Houston Jaguars. There's some good players on their teams and then there are some not so good players.
  13. Chronicle reports... WBB: Jasmin Henderson, Dulles, Lamar
  14. How strong is the SLC supposed to be this year? Outside of 'schedule watching', I can't say I know too much about the teams other than SHSU -- who returns quite a few arms from last year, just depends on how quickly the bats come around.
  15. UNLV, I had conceded this one to you guys and you still couldn't close the deal? How 'bout those Bearkats? Seem to play really well at home. Sorry that we spoiled your regular season conference championship. You'll just have to go out and win the SLC tournament if you want a championship this year...
  16. You got that right... Though SLU fans think I target their running back and NWST fans think I have a beef with them. Guess both are right to some extent...
  17. LU will get plenty of time to work out the kinks early. Seems like all of their better games come after spring break...getting to 40 wins would be easy if this schedule held up for the remainder of the season. Gilligan is one of the better coaches in the league, but I've never really been a fan of his scheduling habits. FEBRUARY 20 Fri. Austin Peay Beaumont, Texas 6:30 p.m. 21 Sat. 18. What are your referring to...?!? Please provide a link. Outside of the UCA/NCAA flap right now, I have actually not posted much on their board in recent weeks so I could not really have a clue what you are referring to. BearFan101 did not even know about this board from a talk we had today. I'm perplexed!
  19. Bowling is.. a) cheaper than gymnastics more beneficial if you have a set conference championship instead of chasing affiliate membership in a conference 2000 miles away c) helps LU in their quest for Commish Cup
  20. And why are we finding this out so late? The Bears are trying to be the conference champion and now they can not even be designated as such. [Hidden Content] UCA Fan Feedback: [Hidden Content] UCA Release: [Hidden Content]
  21. Gymnastics is a BIG no-no! The insurance costs there are more than any other sport. Travel prices stink and even read an article about offseason practice that rose my eyebrow some (which not even most UNLV posts do!). Bowling is great so we can get it as an SLC sport. More schools are adding it. Softball is a MUST! Swimming and diving would be great, plenty of competition just off of I-10 (Rice, Houston, LSU, New Orleans). Incarnate Word has it too and short trips to Centenary, North Texas and SMU. Question is conference affiliation. Sun Belt as an affiliate member? C-USA as an affiliate?
  22. What's the deal? Didn't realize the University of Houston basketball season was over before the other 320 teams in the country got action underway later in the week. A loss to Georgia Southern? The Coog faithful can not be too happy about that. Reading their message board, it seems like the NIT is a pipe dream this year, even if the school prefers the CBI because it allows them to get in the good graces of the Gazelle Group to get these early showcase games like the one they lost last night... ;D
  23. It's all in jest -- I know how critical that alumni and community support is. Whether they put butts in the seats or not, the financial implications keep athletic departments moving...do believe TXST and SFA have the biggest football budgets.
  24. At least, I am preparing for it mentally. You guys, please allow us a set infront of our home crowd! Advance from SHSU: [Hidden Content]
  25. LU is going to be in the SLC, are they not? If you are going to take shots at the other SLC schools, you guys really have nothing to base it off of, do you? If you want to be tops of the SLC, you are going to have to draw a "different fan" to football than you do basketball. Some folks just don't like the elements.
