Would've never known based on the amount of discussion (or lack their of) as it relates to Hugues Joannes at the NCAAs. He got two posts. Not even much talk about the NCAA Regionals. I guess the fans here are not representative of the whole...and if you said golf was your "flagship", I'd say track and field was ours. I love T&F, but none of the "Joe Fans" care. I agree - last sport left on the calendar is the NCAA T&F championships. SHSU is sending six people (5 men, 1 woman) there. Hopefully there are a few others around the SLC - so we can get some national accolades!

Nope, just happy to be there and more than happy with what we have coming back, as we should be back again. And worth noting, SHSU has four NCAA appearances in Lamar's "flagship sports" of basketball and baseball since the last Cardinals' appearance in the NCAAs in said sport. Also had been awhile since I picked on you guys. No one had opened one up like that in awhile.

Henderson is the only student-athlete off any roster this year that has left according to any of the articles that have come out. I do not believe he left due to the future of the athletic department. The Louisiana Legislature is also looking at putting funding back into place. The Governor has agreed to go into the Rainy Day fund. There is a Senator who is looking at plugging up the reductions completely with a bill that would put $118M into higher education. The key is getting the state funding back into higher education. Do that and all the other stuff that is happening per the media, they could be in the best situation they've been in.

That was last night's game. LU still has not played yet. The current game is in the bottom of the 9th, tied at 4. If the game ended now, it would be a 1 p.m. start, but that does not even look likely at this point. Definitely not. Going 10th.

SLC tournament is behind schedule (of course - it's baseball). TXST-SFA game started 40 minutes late. Keep tabs on when that one ends because games are 45 minutes in between.

RPI of 129 and you think Lamar, even if they reach 40 wins, would have a chance at an at-large. Unbelievable. Next year, improve your schedule and make it built towards an at-large appearance and perhaps 38-40 wins would get you into the NCAAs.

You did not hear what the Chancellor told me...the old one, that is. You say that LU was never in danger, but the BoR was putting things in people's ear in 2003 and the Chancellor was too. Apparently, the LU alums were out of the loop because the chatter was relatively loud...

That is opposite of the trend. See Southwest Louisiana (ULL), Northeast Louisiana (ULM), East Texas State (A&M-Commerce) and Southwest Texas (TXST). The legislation would allow us to change our name to SAM HOUSTON UNIVERSITY. I'd be a fan of that, especially since the state does not give us the money they used to, so why should we include 'state'. It'd be like GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY or JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY. They talked about it. Lamar sat on their hands. Would have loved if it went forward. Texas State University - Lamar or Texas State University - Beaumont. Would have cracked me up to see a school just letting themselves get pushed around. Luckily, SHSU caused enough of a stink to protect you guys in 2003. Protected themselves a few years later and encouraged the current bill. SHSU, always looking out for little sister Lamar. There's a reason that only SHSU and TXST are mentioned in the flagship debate.

Oh, I can... I was there in 2003 and 2005 when plenty of name change stuff was brewing under former Chancellor Lamar Urbanowsky and when our friends in San Marcos were starting all sorts of commotion. Our President (who made the remark at his annual state of SHSU address) and our alums were making noise about protecting our name when the discussion was made in Austin about changing all of our system names. Lamar was never in the house...even when SHSU's state rep offered to protect them as well. While you guys never thought it would happen, sometimes it's nice to be proactive.

Bill hits the floor Friday...glad to see Lamar is finally going to have some protection. They evidently did not care two years ago. Apparently someone out there wanted them to share the same protection status (as limited as it may be) that Sam Houston State, Tarleton State and Prairie View A&M have had. [Hidden Content]
