2. 1st in Men 6th in Women Francis Kasagule was the men's overall winner. Congrats Cards!
3.
They have 2 closed scrimmages with Division I schools instead of having an intrasquad scrimmage and exhibition games.
One of which is UT-Arlington...surprising! Especially when you play them twice in a season.
4. I think that while some people, including fans of SHSU will take this in the wrong way - it is a great move, regardless of what the future brings. SHSU needs to study itself and the best way is doing what other schools have done in the past - like Georgia Southern and UMass.
5. And reviewing itself as an FCS institution... [Hidden Content]
6.
Personally about GSU.  Who really gives a rats %$#*&...When it gets posted it gets posted.  That is 12 months away and there is a lot more to worry about than whether trying to prove if you are right or the LU fans are correct.  We will worry about it when the time comes to buy a ticket to the game......
As TWO Southland schools have learned in the last year, you can easily get burned really late in the game with scheduling for football. Two SLC schools had other schools drop without advanced warning from their schedules (in fact - in one case, said SWAC school did not even contact the SLC school, which learned by seeing a schedule release on that school's site). You can't assume anything and if one school does not list the other, it definitely raises some eyebrows. If the matter does not get wrapped up shortly (if it has not already and we are led to believe it has not due to GSU's web site), Lamar may want to start looking for an 11th game from a different foe.
7.
Well TT  again you fail to have all the facts right.  YOU ARE SO WRONG THIS TIME.  TIED 4 TO 4.
Speaking of facts wrong...LOL!
Lamar baseball has been to the postseason 3 times since 2000... In 2002 played in Austin, 2003 again in Austin and in 2004 in Houston at Rice.  Basketball went to post season in 2000.  Know for a fact that this is right because I was at all 4 tournaments.
It was difficult to find the information on the Lamar web site, so I apologize for the incorrect information. I went to the page regarding 'tradition' and only championships were listed. Perhaps they should list NCAA appearances there - would make it more helpful. 2004 was the last appearance? I guess the fans here are right when they've informed us all that SHSU and TXST have surpassed the Cards. I want you guys to turn it around, but with the annual weak SOS, you guys don't really help the league RPI, which has continued to head in a positive direction. We've got to look to a squad like SLU to lift it.
Also who the heck are you that you have all your little contacts at every school.  I talked to not just anyone but an assistant AD whom I know for sure has his facts correct.  Why not spend more time putting out positive facts about SHSU and quit trying to down our programs.  Better yet get a life...Why do you care who is on our non conference shedule.  We play who we play....
I am a voter in two of the three major FCS polls and talk quite frequently with people at all the different schools, as well as several of the national writers who cover this level better than anyone. I am interested in FCS as a whole and follow it like a hawk, while everyone else is keeping tabs on the Cougars, Aggies, Red Raiders and Longhorns - I am more concerned with Mountaineers, Paladins, Spiders and Grizzlies. Can you name which schools I am referring to? All four have been FCS powers over the years... On that note, I have contacted Georgia State. It has been awhile and figured it was time for a follow-up - since it's apparent that they have still not listed Lamar on their web site.
PREDICTION.... Lamar will have a better record than SHSU in 2010 season.
All I care about is beating the Cards. Records won't matter when Lamar is playing their sub-Div I games and other upstarts while SHSU counters with Missouri Valley foe Western Illinois and Big 12 Baylor.
8.
Well Terror at least LU has found the nut... How many NCAA Appearances does Prison U have?
Since 2001, we have one basketball and three baseball. Just the 2004 NCAA appearance for the Cards in baseball. So in your two premier sports, it's 4 to 1 since the turn of the century... ;) As is typical with Lamar, it is what have you done for me lately?
9. UNLV... As was the case in 2000 when Lamar made it to the NCAAs in hoops, even a squirrel finds an acorn. In this case, SFA won a Piney Woods game at home for first time since 1998 and just the second time this century...
10.
Leave it to TT to make a big deal out of nothing.
Never said it was a big deal - I just find it to be funny, especially since it's played out in public. Now, if Lamar never ends up on Georgia State's schedule - then we can begin to ask questions.
11.
How is it so public? There's been no release, article, or anything on the news saying that there are contract issues with this game.
MFFL - young chap, you have much to learn! We've beaten this dead horse, but here goes again... Timeline 1) Lamar announces their schedule WITH Georgia State 2) Georgia State announces their schedule SANS Lamar after the Cardinals had released their schedule 3) Georgia State issues opening schedule t-shirts WITHOUT Lamar on it - GSU fans claim that this is a collectible since Panthers will probably have one more game, possibly Lamar. 4) Georgia State head coach Curry answers question at a pep rally shortly after schedule release and states, " that we have had Lamar on the schedule for a while but we have not received a contract from the school yet". 5) National FCS media question it - was mentioned in one, if not two national FCS columns 6) As of Oct. 24, 2009 - a good while (in fact TWO months and almost two weeks) after the schedule by Lamar was announced - still no game listed on Georgia State's official schedule.
12.
Well TT hate to disappoint you but I spoke with someone in the athletic department yesterday and was told that YES, Lamar has a contract with Georgia and the Coach Woodard has put a call into them to please change their website....So I guess LU was not making it up after all....
I heard that from a contact at Lamar several weeks ago - that they had a contract with Georgia State. Then, I followed up and contacted someone at Georgia State and told me it was not finalized at that point, hence the reason Lamar was excluded when the Panthers announced their schedule (AFTER Lamar had announced theirs). It's been pretty humorous to watch. I'm sure these two teams will play, but when contract issues reach into the public like this and it's obvious that there is a problem, it's funny. My favorite is when it's obvious that schools have double-booked.
13. As of yesterday, Georgia State still did not list Lamar on the football schedule. Lamar, which announced their schedule first, still does. Collegiate sports contracts must be a difficult and long-winded process...
14. PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH EAST 1. Nicholls State 2. Southeastern Louisiana 3. Stephen F. Austin 4. Northwestern State (La.) 5. McNeese State 6. Central Arkansas WEST 1. Sam Houston State 2. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3. Texas-San Antonio 4. Texas-Arlington 5. Texas State - San Marcos 6. Lamar [Hidden Content]
15. Come on coach! Read the article. First conference victory this season, first at the new facility. First-ever SLC win was last year vs Nicholls and you followed it up with a victory against SHSU...
16. Rice does not want to play the SLC after Nicholls beat them and while UH did play Northwestern State this year, they are taking on a full diet of SWAC schools unless there is an SLC ripe for the picking. By doing a conference game with a pay day, we are still opening the schedule to have an FBS game (SHSU has Baylor next year) in which we can reap profits. Figure we are getting $250k-300k for Baylor at the very least. Interested to know the figure on the Reliant Stadium game, but can't imagine it being less than $75-100k, which is 2x what we'd get if Appy State bought a home game from us. Throw in the pub - bam! Only students go to SHSU home games? That's incorrect. We're a basketball school and 10% of our student body shows up once school is in session come January. Football games, not so much. The SHSU-SFA game and Homecoming are a bit different - but for the most part, the games are driven by alumni and the community.
17. Some thoughts... 1) The Texans promotions arm is involved and this means pub for the Kats/Jacks during Texans games and around Reliant Stadium. That sure as heck won't hurt! 2) The Texans/Reliant Stadium had to 'buy' this game away from the schools. Both schools typically do well for attendance when the games are at their stadium, compared to most contests. If both schools will be making money each year (not just when they would be the home team) and are making more when they are the home team - can't complain. Finances drive the market! 3) Both schools have large alum bases in the Houston area. Parking prices at the stadium will stink, but got to figure they'll put 15-20k at the game (that's the avg for TSU-PVA&M). That's as said - more than they would've gotten at any venue.
18. Announcement coming next week... [Hidden Content]
19. Trying to find stuff to put into the national FCS media regarding Lamar football since I do correspond with guys like David Coulson (Sporting News), Chuck Burton (College Sporting News) and Kent Schmidt (College Sporting News) often about the Southland Conference. Lots of people are interested in the start-up programs (ODU, LU, USA, etc). Seems most of the stuff available comes from the media. Haven't you guys played two simulated games with one more coming in November? There's not a whole lot of information out there regarding what I figured would be relatively big stepping stones for your football program. If you guys find anything - please share on here. A few of you are doing a great job and it's very helpful.
20. All of McNeese's games this year were against Div I programs except one - Henderson State. ???
21. Apparently not looking. Not all home-and-homes are same year deals, especially with the bigger schools that try to limit their road trips annually and split them up over a two year favor. A&M hosted SHSU last year. This year, A&M comes to SHSU. We do a one-game a year home-and-home. Alternates. This year the Aggies go to San Marcos. Can't recall if this is a makeup game from 2007 or not. LSU hosted Northwestern State last year. This year, LSU goes to Northwestern State. LSU did an inseason home-and-home with SLU last year. The Tigers 'rotate' around the state under their new scheduling philosophy. And yes, C-USA schools are big name schools if it is Rice and when they return to status, Tulane.
22. Ummm...SHSU does an annual home-and-home with the big schools they get in. It's not a problem for us. Does not seem to be much a problem for TXST, UTSA or UT-Arlington either. Even SLU hosted LSU last year and has hosted Tulane numerous times. NWST gets LSU this year. SFA and Nicholls State do not quite have the facilities for visits from major programs. Even McNeese has a home-and-home with UNO and ULL this year. Not bad. Lamar seems to have the most trouble of the schools who have the facilities. It's a location thing - at least on the outside. If it has something to do with the coach himself, that we would not know. Got to figure relations play into things to some degree, but I think there are many more closer schools for which to do business with.
23. Surprised he thought we were average - as you guys know, Bob Marlin gets a highly ranked kid from time to time in Texas hoops, but it mostly comes down to the puzzle pieces to run his style of play. Having talked to other coaches, it seems SHSU is getting a few guys perceived as nothing special by different services, but that are very well-liked by coaches.
24. Seems to me that this league has a fair share of balance. As always, tilting more towards the west - but it could be a relatively eventful year in conference. Tough loss Cards, UTSA rallies from 0-2 deficit at home to win the day.
25. Well, you know Maineri does not mind it at all. It comes down from the AD. Southern is throwing a fit because LSU wants them at the Box. SU says LSU owes them a home game first. So, SU is no longer on the LSU schedule. Believe SU is falling off UNO's schedule in '11 and they had already fallen off of Tulane's.
