  1. Lamar's location is hurting them when the big-time schools. Houston and Huntsville are shorter trips for the Aggies. San Marcos and San Antonio (and for that matter - Houston) are shorter trips for the Horns. I've said it before - LU has had the weakest OOC slates of any of the Texas squads in the SLC. This explains it somewhat. And part of the problem is ADs requiring X amount in gates. That's LSU's issue. The AD wanted several million in gate and they only have two OOC road games (Tulane and NWST).
  2. SHSU's attendance is HALF of what it typically is. It's usually in the 8.5-9.5k range. Rain has wreaked havoc. We've had lightning delays for TWO games this year! Since we do not sell many season tickets, obviously the walk-up and student attendance bolsters our numbers. Stinks, but it is what it is... That was a road game...
  3. Any of you got further info on SHSU's verbal?
  4. The SLC is a tougher league. At least two teams have built programs worthy enough in the last two years of at-large bids. Got to improve the schedule, Cards and got to win when it matters most. Would love to see Lamar and Southeastern La. join the felines of Texas.
  5. That's the Lamar team I expected. Had no doubt you'd beat us in Beaumont after our win in Huntsville. Was surprised we did that!
  6. Guess no one here will be Lamar Cardinals football fans for the next...well, the forseeable future! ;D With that mindset that you have UNLV, won't be much longer til LU is back in the cellar, reclaiming their spot at the bottom of the Southland standings and not much longer than that when the TSUS Board of Regents is shutting down the Cardinal football program... Enrollment would suffer when you guys eliminate football again, but good thing for that distance education program! Won't even notice... Hope the other Cardinal "fans" get with the program and you are not a reflection of what's coming down the line...
  7. SHSU has beat the #1 team in the top championship level of NCAA, as recently as 2004. Go into our media guide - complete listing of our wins over top ranked squads.
  8. SHSU fans are shocked by the win... We are 6-0 at home now, but really thought that we'd come out flat against the Cards, especially with two starters done for the year. Not sure what to make of it, figure the Cards will hold home court in the return game next week.
  9. Get back to me when the LU program has lived up to your expectations. Please don't do this in football - we already got one of those programs in the league!
  10. Ah, the advantages of swinging back and forth from SLC West to SLC East!
  11. That was not even their first official game. Coach, remember - they are playing an EXHIBITION season. Eight games against foes, mostly BCS factories (Hargrave Military Academy) and the like. Lamar, if you recall, turned down a chance to play an exhibition or two, offered by other schools.
  12. Isn't their a scrimmage on Monday or sometime next week?
  13. Can someone explain FOUR goals in FOUR minutes and 36 seconds?!?!? [Hidden Content]
  14. Does the league split into two five-team divisions? Or does everyone play everybody? My proposal.... SLC Texas Division UTSA Lamar SHSU SFA TXST SLC East Division Nicholls SLU UCA NWST McN I've said this before, but under this format, I think that each team in the SLC Texas and the SLC East should get a set rival in the other division (McN-Lamar, SFA-NWST, Nich-TXST are 'locks'). Not sure what you do with SLU, SHSU, UCA and UTSA. Then, you play eight games. Four division games, rival game, plus three out of division foes. Rotate that team you miss, but it can never be the rival game.
  15. Did not get burned. Trying to find the post, but wasn't it LU Baseball Fan who made some false statements regarding student-athletes who have left due to the future of the athletic program? Only two athletes at the university, one member of the baseball roster (her son) and one swimmer (one who got a full ride at Notre Dame, hard to blame him in a sport of partials) specifically due to what happened. False information about such a twisted situation does nothing to benefit OR educate anyone. Good luck to Jake and here's hoping that the Cards improve this season, so we can get an RPI boost for the league as we try to keep a multi-bid league in place. Here in New Orleans, everything I've read about the future is bright. So, it looks like both the individual athlete and the school got what they want.
  16. We have one money guy - Mafrige. He's given a pretty penny thus far, both academically and otherwise. SHSU needs to get some other big wigs involved if we want this to work and perhaps there's a few of those on the committee they have formed under a different name, which has FBS exploratory all over it. SHSU's budget last year was prior to the most recent student fee increase. Enrollment should be at 20k in the next few years and we'll be in that $10-12M range shortly, if were not there already.
  17. 1) UH does not want to play at Reliant. They are spending $$$ on Robertson. They want that atmosphere and are working to build it up. 2) SHSU's President is very gung-ho about FBS. It's getting even more and more obvious to those well connected to the program. The problem is, the funding and whether or not those in the athletic dept buy into it.
  18. LU added a third SID before Drew left, so now they are a two-man office once more.
  19. Any further word on the UTSA schedule? Once we know their slate, we could look at wins a bit more. I think UTSA will have just as competitive a schedule as LU.
  20. I'm going to bite my tongue here...enjoy your day! 8)
  21. Hillarious...this coming from the board that whines and whines for weeks on end about the Lamar basketball roster not being out! Wouldn't want to get in trouble with the NCAA, but who cares? Fans first! Come on Roc! This one is actually about public perception, since it has been brought up in a public forum by the athletic administration of another school, after the fact that Lamar released its schedule. Probably will amount to nothing, since now with this out there, LU will get their act together, but still...does not look too good.
  22. Saw this on AGS...the blame is on Lamar, at least in the eyes of Georgia State.
  23. "A delay"...? Perhaps, but then again, they just had a press conference announcing the schedule today and have a release on their web site. They also announced a new logo. I just do not understand how Lamar announces a schedule. Georgia State follows suit and they do not match-up. These things are interesting... Reminds me of a situation earlier this year, SHSU announced a schedule with Prairie View. PV announced one a few weeks later without SHSU. SHSU continually called PV and guess what? PV had dropped us without informing us! I do not think the AD or head football coach at PV ever returned calls to the Kats!
  24. This is not an issue with Lamar, is it? It could fall on Georgia State? Either way, it's just interesting to see two schools reporting something vastly different and I'd be talking about any school or schools if this was them. Heck, even SHSU! If you have followed me outside of your own little world on this board, you'd know that we always talk about such things at the national level of the Football Championship Subdivision. Surprisingly common is the fact there are more than a few schools who have been caught "double-booking" games. It just does not make sense...
  25. Hey Lamar, Georgia State doesn't list you on their schedule... GEORGIA STATE'S 2010 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE: Subject to Change. Home games at Georgia Dome Sept. 2 SHORTER (Thursday) Sept. 18 JACKSONVILLE STATE Sept. 25 at Campbell Oct. 2 MOREHEAD STATE Oct. 9 SAVANNAH STATE Oct. 16 NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL Oct. 23 at Old Dominion Oct. 30 at South Alabama Nov. 13 LAMBUTH Nov. 20 at Alabama [Hidden Content] I thought you guys were heading there on Nov. 6. [Hidden Content] Apparently...not?
