1.
Is Slocum on the payroll for Gig"em? What does he do?
Special assistant to the President. I think he makes appearances, does fundraising, etc.
 2. Slocum is out of the equation according to reports. He turned it down because he's getting too lucrative a deal from A&M now. Hearing some other names, a few that have not been mentioned on KatFans.com re: coaches. One is a former major FBS head coach, not named Fran.
 3. We have an opening...according to a breaking story from the Huntsville Item. Let me know if you guys hear anything - some names that I expect to emerge are R.C. Slocum, Guy Morriss, Brad Franchione and Jason Phillips.
 4. Reminder. Lamar is ELIGIBLE for a playoff bid next year (and a long shot at that based off the schedule and the committee selection parameters - see Old Dominion), but they DO NOT enter the Southland Conference until 2011. The 2011 season will be the first in which Lamar is eligible to win the conference's automatic bid.
 5. See, the thing is, I addressed the topic. Let's do this again for those Cardinal fans who can neither read or spell (still befuddled over the t-shirt issue, but hey - someone's not double-checking in Cardinal Camp) 1) SHSU has typically averaged about 8500-9500 per season for the last 4-5 years. This year has been rough between weather and the attitude towards the coaching staff. 2) Average attendance was going to be a sore subject this year. Since UCA joined the conference, this is the second time (2007 the other) in which we had BOTH the games against SFA and TXST on the road. Those two games, plus McNeese, are our better draws. In 2007, we had the excitement of Rhett Bomar and people were still not turning their back on the coaching staff. Good weather too. Having NWST, Nicholls and UCA as the home offerings does nothing for us compared to SFA, TXST and McNeese. As far as academics... 1) Lamar fans have never yet proved to me that they were even in the flagship mix. A 2005 flagship study submitted to the TSUS did not include Lamar - just TXST and SHSU. 2) Lamar took two years after SHSU to protect their names. SHSU was proactive in the fight against the SWT name change and again proactive in protecting their names. Like is the case with everything else in the TSUS, there are a bunch of followers. Lamar was the follower in this case. Perhaps it was the concerns presented to the TSUS board by SHSU's President about remarks he heard from former Chancellor Lamar Urbanowsky that got LU off their keester! Relating to FBS... 1) Stated it time and time again - I do not want to go FBS unless our rivals go (since we do not want to be associated with the LSC bunch) or we have a 'seat' at the table (which the C-USA, Sun Belt, WAC, MWC, MAC do not). 2) I am fine with FCS. This is the purest form of football with a legitimate playoff system. I vote in two top 25 polls, for the Payton, Buchanon and Robinson awards. I enjoy keeping tabs on Montana, Richmond, etc. more than I do an FBS system that already has the national title game figured out (SEC champion vs Texas) while obstructing the TCUs and Boise States. As far as basketball... 1) There's an obvious jealousy by Cards. Lamar has done what lately? The Bearkats have finished in the top 3 of the Southland Conference Standings 6 of the last 7 seasons 2) Lamar is down on their team. The fans do not seem too optimistic. Athlon Sports, Blue Ribbon Magazine, Rivals.com, RushTheCourt.com and the Southland Conference head coaches' poll have predicted that the Bearkats will win the Southland Conference West Division again this season. 3) How many 20 win seasons for the Cards over the last few years? The Bearkats have won 20 or more games in 5 of the last 10 seasons
 6.
In spite of all your weak minded defense attempts, you cannot defend 2,100 at the game.  Absolutely pathetic for your "so called superior instituiton" of higher learning. ;)
How is it so-called when every rating system of higher education that matters has SHSU > Lamar? As I've told you SETX blokes, there has never been any mention of LU in the 'flagship battle' within the TSUS and when the system looked as if TXST would become flagship, only SHSU put up a fight while the Orange, Beaumont and Tech crew sat on their bumpkins!
 7.
Wait TT Terror.  Just a few days ago you were all.  MOVING UP to FBS and blah, blah, blah,  and now that there are 2100 fans at the last game and you are singing a different tune.....
I've been consistent. If our rivals or the SLC go to FBS, so should we. We always tag along with SFA and TXST. If our rivals do not and there continues to be no seat at the table for non-BCS conferences, there's no reason to move. This study will paint a picture of ourselves. Tell us what to do to go FBS. Tell us what to do in order to be a better FCS. One thing is certain, our academics are up to snuff in the athletic department for an FBS move, if that's the way we go. We've had a consistent staff in place, no general studies major nor the need of others to take classes for our student-athletes.
 8.
Then why aren't you fighting this FBS. 2100 fans, you should consider dropping football. Use the money to make the great SHSU MBB, since 2000, better. Imagine what millions can do for MBB.
There's no FBS fight to have. This feasibility study will tell us about our program as it stands now. On the bright side, I bet university is spelled right throughout the study!  ;)
 9.
2100 at a FCS game and you want to move up. How about moving down to fit your fan support.
No one wants to move up in my opinion. We want to be successful at the level we are at.
 10. First SFA, now Lamar...??? [img][Hidden Content]]
 11.
Regional finals...LU been there, done that. many of times. Not impressed.
[img][Hidden Content]] Even the ole May Tag repairman is wondering what you have done for him lately? He's been around a long time and it's been just as long since Lamar did anything! Not sure how attendance will be golden for football if you guys don't take advantage of pubbing what's been happening now!
 12.
This is getting good... GO UNLV..  TT is a ^#&$%..  As I have said before.  Up until 3 years ago or at least the four years Will played at Lamar  the only thing that impressed me about SHSU was when my youngest played in a baseball playoff game on their very nice field....
LU Baseball Fan...SHSU is 12-0 in the SLC tournament in the last three years. SHSU reached a regional final a few years back after an amazing comeback against Southern Miss (also eliminated Troy) and could very well have the most impressive team under Mark Johnson in 2010. This team is used to playing a tough schedule and I do not think you will find players blaming losses on others when they lose. They take it hard as a team. Solid academic team too... ;)
 13.
Impress me by winning beyond the SLC. SHSU in MBB, 0-1 in the tourney. LU is 5-5. When will the almighty SHSU catch up.
Let's talk about the current era, not the era that is recalled by the older generation of LU fans that makes up most of your basketball crowds.
LU has come close on several occasions of winning a D1 NC. SHSU has never won beyond the slc.
SHSU has won beyond the SLC, just not in this 'era'. It is a bit like Lamar outside of men's golf, which even as of you late, you guys have turned your head the other way with...
 14.
The current football product at Dan Rather State is as pathetic as it's most famous Alum (DR) and it's self appointed mouthpiece (TT).  And if you were as smart as you claim to be, you would know that Lamar doesn't stand for mediocrity.
How long is the baseball and men's basketball program going to lay in the state they are? It is obvious that in baseball that TXST and SHSU have taken huge leaps and bounds. May have something to do with quality coaches and facilities. You guys lucked out when Bo Pilgrim Park did not come to fruition at SFA, but what happens if some of the other Texas programs in the league turn it around? Oh and don't give me the schedule excuses! I guess the MBB issue handles itself with the move to the SLC East next year, but what if Roc can not sniff the top two, top three over there? And the return to the SLC West is only two years away at that point. Good thing for Larry Tidwell and Justin Gilbert, right?
 15.
Why is it taking Terror so long to explain why SHSU had fewer fans at a future FBS ROFLMAO school than LU has at it's basketball games.
That was more than an FBS school - Eastern Michigan. :) Attendance has been really bad at SHSU this year. It's rough - weather came into play earlier in the year and now the low turnout is probably based on the date of the event (Halloween) and that many are not interested in the current regime. This is not Lamar - where the status quo is observed without fault. Our fans are reacting to the product as they view it on the field.
 16. Are you guys counting down until the move back to the SLC East? Seems to benefit the entire athletic program in the sports where divisions exist!  ;)
 17.
Hopefully, we will be seeded "low" enough in the tourney to play SHSU first. We KNOW they ALWAYS lay an egg at the tourney!
No joke! Which is why we have to win the regular season title, so at least we can go to the NIT! ;)
 18. In one of the polls, one of two squads to not get first-place votes... [Hidden Content] No All SLC selections... [Hidden Content]
 19.
Oh I'm sure he would have moved up into the top 5 had Dan Rather State been recruiting him.
Every now and then, I guess we get a highly touted recruit. Randy Collins 6'5 pf (LaPorte HS 2010) has committed to Sam Houston State University. The news dropped yesterday evening as Collins attended a college game at nearby San Jacinto to support good friend Adriam Morales (3pts). This is a huge coup for the Bearkats, who recently hooked Collins' longtime summer ball teammate Byron Randle 6'2 cg (Friendswood HS 2010). Collins has all the skills that could warrant All Southland Conference in at least three of his four collegiate years to come.
 20. Mid-major rankings are out. SHSU, UTSA, SELU, A&M-CC and SFA appear in the 'ARV' category.
 21.
My guess on first yr attendance would be they would average north of 17k.  If they win 3 or more home games, and have a good recruiting year, they would stay on pace with that the next year.  However, they are going to have to bring in some decent opponents beside the SLC teams for the future to keep the  attendance up and of course, win some games.  La Tech and USL (ULL) would be 2 really good draws along with say UH or Rice or Tulsa or So Miss.  UAB might be a good name draw.  Dream big boys and make it happen!
None of those schools would visit an FCS school. Against C-USA and SBC by-laws...some of you have much to learn re: football!  :D
 22.
TCU and UTA aren't horrible.
They apparently showed 'interest' according to your article. That does not mean too much. I can get a letter from Lamar in the mail that went out to 150 people. Is that interest? What defines interest?
Oh I'm sure he would have moved up into the top 5 had Dan Rather State been recruiting him.
Seriously? You guys know SHSU does not recruit top-ranked players. We tend to be outrecruited by the entire SLC by the numerous rankings. Lamar tends to be top dog in hoops' recruiting rankings, NWST in football. How does that translate to results?  ???
 23.
Who was accused and what were they accused of?
Still have not seen the article. BrianTF on our board - said something along the lines of A&M-CC student-athletes who were assisting as judges as it relates to the women's race. Not sure how you could really cheat in XC. It's not like T&F where a judge can ignore a 'foul' or something like that.
 24. For a player ranked No. 34 - it does not seem like he had an impressive list of schools interested in him.  ???
 25. Someone on KatFans said there was some accusations of cheating at the SLC XC meet discussed in the CC Caller. I have not seen an article (does not look like today's edition is up) and I believe he said it was on the women's side.
