2. Here is a good article on CBSSports.com  Link to article ] Realignment boom could lead to more busts for small schools By Dennis Dodd Tell Dennis your opinion! CBSSports.com Senior Writer Aug. 19, 2010 From the moment the NCAA seized control of the monster known as television, the outcome was clear. Less football. From 1952-1984 the NCAA operated under the belief that less of the association's grandest sport was better. Too much of its product on TV, it believed, would impact attendance. Television appearances were an event, not a right or expected. On your average football Saturday during those years you might see Oklahoma-Texas followed by Richmond-Furman. And that was it -- for the weekend. Read that now and laugh. In '84 the nation's top football playing schools won a Supreme Court battle that allowed them to control their TV rights. These days you can watch entire seasons on a laptop. Most every school in the Big Ten has its games televised on some platform or another. Ohio State and Michigan have suffered from that overexposure so much they spent millions on major stadium expansions in recent years.

 4. So Lamar is going to be running the 4-2-5 defense and I think it is a great fit.  Bruchhaus was a 4-2-5 genius at McNeese when I was there and it works very well.  A lot of times your corners will be in man to man but you will bring a variety of pressure to the QB.  The only trouble we had with it was with option teams that cut block a bunch.  I'm not sure Lamar will see any of that this year or in the future.  I haven't been around it since a lot of teams went to the spread offense.  Should be a fun defense to watch in the future especially if you have a hybrid type strong safety who is half corner half linebacker.

I just walked by there and it looks like they're pouring gravel for a good base. Still a lot of dirt work going on too.
Turf Project Go to other galleries and you will find the pictures.
 8. That's the story.....What effect will this have on Lamar going forward?  I know they want to go FBS.  Could they receive a bid from a larger Sun Belt or larger MWC?  Baylor or Colorado, Missouri, Iowa St., Kansas, and Kansas St. will have no home after the Big 12 is dissolved.   With the possibility of 4 "super conferences" (Pac 16, SEC 14, BIG East/ACC, Big 16 (Big 10) ), is there now a playoff for FBS in the future.  Will the NCAA support these conferences?   I hope Simmons and the Board of Regents are front and center for Lamar on this expansion issue if they want to go to FBS. 9. Anyone have an idea when the turf is going to go down?
Tubbs and Simmons are so unlike many in this area, especially Jefferson County leaders.
Because they don't do what's best for them, they do what's best for the school and the students.  Simmons has played his cards right in every aspect of bringing Lamar football back.  He raised teachers salaries before he lifted a finger on this football program.

I talked to someone last night and they stated that Lamar is getting luxury boxes built starting today.
Where are they going to build them?
Below the Montagne Center
 12. If you go here Stadium Turf, you can look at the turf project that went on at McNeese in 2008.  Go to view other galleries to see the beginning of the project.  It took 3 months to complete the turf installation.  It should be in by the summer if they start in March.
 13. It is not hard to learn the offense over the summer and in fall practice.  I would put money on the fact that these guys all have a playbook as of right now and will be required to learn that playbook before they hit the campus this summer or in the fall.  Taking JUCO and transfers from FBS schools is a must for a start up program like Lamar.  The first two years will be very important to build a winning tradition for the community so that we will be more inclined to support it.  Southeast Texas hasn't exactly supported all its sports teams in the area, out side of high school football.  Having a WINNING program early is very important for Lamar.  The quickest way to do that is to bring in talented and experienced guys from JUCO and FBS programs.  After you establish that winning tradition and get your feet on the ground in the SLC, then you taper off on bringing in transfers.  Lamar will probably bring in 5 to 7 transfers a year from there on out.  Those guys have talent from FBS schools, otherwise they would not have signed ship's to FBS schools.  Lamar's affect on McNeese's recruiting was felt very hard this year.  In the past 7 years, McNeese has brought in at least 5 Texas recruits each year.  Many times that number was over 7 and up to as much as 10.  This year McNeese brought in 2 Texas recruits.  If we can lock down southeast Texas and recruit the Houston area we will have enormous amounts of talent and interest from this area. I did notice that SFA sign 5 guys from southeast Texas and that stings a bit.  Coach Harper will hound this area in recruiting becasue he knows that they have alot of talent around this area and Lamar poses a big threat on that talent.
