As I said before, we obviously have different opinions about this topic. I have given mine, and I am out.

Have no issues with promoting a winning mentality. I don't really believe this is the approach to that will achieve that. Maybe what is going on at practice while no one is watching is completely different from what was seen in OF over the weekend. I will be the first one to admit that this was a small sample size. I am only commenting on what I saw over this three day period. Been around a ton of coaches in this area who have been very successful. One of them just won his 800th game. Their kids love them as well. Can't say I have ever heard any of them address his kids publicly the way this coach did. Also, there is much more coaching and less complaining on those sidelines.

Mamba I guess your impression of what high school sports in Hamshire-Fannett or any other small school is supposed to be about. Maybe at United, you have kids that are preparing to play college basketball, but I am pretty sure that Hamshire-Fannett has none of those kids. Or do they? That is another question for another day I suppose. I sure hope your young coach has all of his PAPF forms ready to go or that 11-3 record will go down real quick.

Here is what I heard and saw since that is what is being questioned. He subbed a player in the game. That player missed a three pointer on that very next possession. He immediately took the player out and yelled "I put you in to make a three. You can't even get that right." That is a lot of pressure for a teenage kid to have on his shoulders and then be ridiculed in front of a bleacher full of parents and other students. Also, it is easy for those players, and parents, to take that criticism when the team is winning, but if losing happens and the attitude remains the same, you will see a different response. Referees make mistakes no doubt. That pair of officials was definitely not good. They were not good for either side though. He made it more about how bad the officials were instead of coaching and modelling for his kids how to deal with adversity. Since Mamba wanted to know what I heard from my own ears and saw with my own eyes, I thought I would elaborate. I will leave it here though. No more negativity.

I was there for multiple games. I cannot speak to what you had been told, but I was not impressed with his demeanor and leadership of those athletes from Hamshire. Showing his rear is a nice way to put it. I would have a very big problem with the example he is setting if my son was playing for him.

Glad it wasn't too serious and he was able to get back on the court. He is fun to watch.

Why was Hefner for Nederland out to start the season?

It should be handled the same way as a tech during pre-game. Team B, who shot the tech, should get the ball to begin the second half.

I didn’t take anything about his comment being about coaching. Seemed like he was putting the ownership on the kids. Maybe too much Fortnite and not enough blood and sweat. I bet the weight room was open kids just didn’t go.

My post has nothing to do with Coach Jacks. It is in reply to some of the comments concerning yelling at players. Every coach is going to yell. I have never seen a successful coach never yell. I think that the key point is that players will respond to coaches who yell with a purpose and know that it comes from an individual they look up to, respect, and knows that he cares for his players. You can't compare high school players to that of college players. For college players, playing sports is a job. They are getting money of some sort (tuition, books, or lodging) in most cases. For high school players, it is the pure enjoyment of the game, competition, and hopefully the family environment with your teammates and coach. Some people made comments that coaches are there to win. Incorrect. At most schools, especially schools the size of HF, coaches are there to mold boys into men. Most of those players are not going to play in college, so their high school days are preparing them to raise families. Children today are a different breed. If coaches aren't flexible to how players learn, then success will not be achieved and players will choose not to play. That does not mean that coaches have to coddle players. It means that they have to figure out how to reach players in different ways besides yelling.

Not if they get first and second in district which is what is going to happen. Only way they see each other is the regional finals.

He was suspended for the remainder of the season, including the playoffs. I think 5 games is too convenient. He would come back right before the regional tournament. I don't think that proves the severity of what he did. I think the district was appropriate with this punishment. Defending yourself in an altercation is one thing. Completely blindsiding a defenseless person is another. I still think he will be lucky if charges aren't pressed. Not saying I would, but there are plenty of people who would look into it.

I am sure that I will get hammered on this, but game was the exact reason when Williams and Bullock would have trouble playing college at the Division I level. The defenders will be much quicker and bigger which means they will have even more trouble getting shots off. They are definitely capable of playing at the next level, just not Division I. Not taking anything away from what they did this year. Great year Big Sandy. Many teams would kill to be where you played today.

And they will all be back. One senior and I don't think he has touched the floor.

The big kid from muenster had 8 of their 15 rebounds at the half. He now has 18 rebounds in the game. He is the size that Foster was probably referring to without mentioning his name or number. The wildcats are also focusing on trying to keep him off the boards and that is opening up other players to rebound. Their size (#21) is causing problems. Their team size is not. Yes I am at the game watching it.

So $116 for 9 hours of instruction?

I am sure that you are more qualified to make a line-up decision than the coaches who are at practice everyday.  I don't blame the coaching staff for going with the kids they have they have the most confidence in and can count on.  Looks like it worked out.  The bobcats played a good game last night.  The Tigers just hit better.  Good luck tonight Bobcats.  Play as hard and focused as last night.  Good luck coaches also.

How do 2 sub. .500 teams play each other in the 1st round.  One of them would have had to of done well in district.  That would be  rare occurence.  In 5A a few years back. Plugerville HS got 4th in dstrict and went all the way to the state championship game.  That instance makes it worth it right there.  Yes, most probably don't need to be in the playoffs, but there are some who will be competitive and win.  You are only adding one game.

He TRIED to go to Travis. The rules prevented it from happening.  On another note. Did any one see the pregame put on by Soma Edo from Berkner in the 2nd 5A game on Friday night. That guy has freakish hops. I swear he could hit his nose on the rim.

Here is the thing that amazed me. The enrollment of Madison was smaller than 95% of all 3A schools. It would not surprise me if they could be 2A by enrollment standards. Amazing that all that size and ability go to a school with 460 kids
