  1. Well when some schools abuse the rules it ruins it for the ones who play by the rules. Yes Prep schools will suffer for charters like triple a who bend the rules. They cannot judge each school by talent. That would be too subjective. Has to be the same rules for every charter and it can't be based on enrollment for them.
  2. I think that last statement is the problem. The "owner" of the school who has a kid on the team who is trying to get his kid noticed. Uil needs to take notice and change this from happening again. All of these schools need to compete in the highest classification because it is too easy to recruit.  Even the yes preps of the world. Needs to be the same for all private or charter who compete under the Uil.
  3. So Aggie, do you think any of the current 21-3A teams could stay 3A since the numbers might be changing some?  If the number is moving up enough to include schools such as Lumberton, maybe the bottome number might move up.
  4. The two state champs is for football only and it has been that way for a number of years. The difference comes with the big school/small school districts for 3A. Normally you go big school small school once you get in the playoffs. Now schools with similar enrollment a will be in a district together. Once again, these new districts are for football only. Basketball and baseball districts will not be based on enrollment. Now 4 teams in the playoffs will effect basketball and baseball next year.
  5. Most school suspensions are school days, not calendar days.  That means that it would be 6 weeks of school.  That goes til spring break.  Like I said, most schools, this is how it works, not all.
  6. So you are surprised that Coldspring doesn't want to play in a gym that west orange not only played in, but won in less than a week ago. Of course they don't.
  7. Good hard fought victory by the bobcats last night. I am very proud of them on an emotional senior night where they honored their seniors and their fallen teammate from last year. No playoffs this year, but if they beat bridge city on Tuesday, they will finish in 4th place when everyone as picking them to finish last or next to last. Good job boys. Finish strong.
  8. Bobcats win 55-32 after only leading 18-16 at the half. 3-3 for the bobcats after the first half of district. Keep working cats.
  9. Evadale vs. Orangefield is Monday, not Tuesday.  Game got moved due to girls district game.
  10. The coach last year wasn't even in this area when tremaine and vance came through school.  Hancock will get them rolling. Give him a little time. Region 4 better watch out.
  11. Saw the Bobcats play Vidor last night.  I was really impressed with their intensity on defense.  I also noticed on the scores where Buna barely beat Sabine Pass.  Not sure I could say Buna is best team in this tournament.  Never know til you play the games, but I give OF the edge in this tournament.
  12. That is what wos does to teams. Great special teams and defense set up short offensive drives. You could probably ask anyone in the area and they will say that wos's offense is not that oustanding but their defense and special teams are the best in the area. Back to this game. I look at OF schedule and I see a much tougher schedule.  If they are getting healthy again, I take OF by two td's. If I remember right, against EC, OF was missing their starting running back and turned it over multiple times.  Certain games can be decieving.
  13. It will probably have to be the perfect situation for Clay to leave.  He is not going to leave HJ if he won't be able to have his kids some and in 2A that doesn't always happen.  Not sure how Sutherland runs his athletic program, but in the past EC has had universal offseason.    Region IV usually is easier but Aransas Pass is now 2A in Region IV and they are returning 6'7" and a few 6'5" from last year.  They would get to the state tournament in 3A the past decade or so.  It is a much easier region overall though.
  14. It doesn't save the district any money. The state pays the base salary. School district pays a certain amount above base. It actually probably cost them more because most districts pay young teachers more above base. It isn't like an AD where you set the salary. How many people applied anyway. I heard the number was low. Like less than 10.
  15. If you read up above, I was not the one who brought up the board.  Coach Wade I am not a board member, but I do know many of them very well.  Like many people from Orangefield, we grew up together.  Solo, you cannot compare the boys and girls programs.  They go by a completely different set of rules in their athletic period.  My daughter would practice the sport she was playing in the offseason and during season.  My son the past couple of years was not given this opportunity.  Heck, he was only allowed to practice basketball during the period on game days.  All other days he was doing offseason weights and an outside circuit (during the season).  I was at many of the basketball and baseball games this year.  Especially in basketball, the skill level that our players had (not athleticism) was no where near what many teams in our district had, but our heart and drive is what made up the difference.  Looking forward, I hope that the boys are allowed to improve their skills and keep that heart.  You have said many times, that we cannot compete in the current district we are in on a yearly basis.  Please don't tell these kids that.  They do not need to lose that heart and drive.  Good luck to Coach Smalley and I hope the parents, administration, and school board let him and the other coaches do thier jobs.
  16. If it only had to do with football winning, then I am sure that Huckabay would not have had any problems.  I am pretty sure that it had more to do with allowing the other sports opportunity to work on what they needed to.  This is all water under the bridge.  It is just frustrating to think that the board is still being blamed.  They renewed his contract.  Nothing else happened after that meeting.  He went on medical leave and the surgery and recovery wasn't going as he expected.  He resigned.  Enough said.  I guess you are going to say there is more to the story.
  17. From what one of the applicants told me, only two of the people interviewed were going to be called back in.  There was no guarantee that it would be someone in house or an outside guy.  Maybe Admin didn't feel like it was necessary after the first interviews.  Sounds like sour grapes.  I hope he did have a backup plan.
  18. I never said the board.  I said administration.  Many interview committees are the current supt., principal, and maybe some teachers or another principal.  The board normally doesn't get involved in the interview process because they are the ones who approve of the hire.  If they got involved in the interviews then what would be the use of their vote to approve of the hire.  That is not why they were elected to their positions.  If he turned down a job so he could stay then he should have prepared himself for if he didn't get the job.  What if he can't find another position now?  Things don't always turn out like we think or want.
  19. Yes, three loyal people applied from in house.  Some of those people would not have gotten the job no matter what.  Administration has more to think about than that.  I guess you find out truly how loyal they are by how they act after they aren't hired.  Do they stay and try and work with the new person, or bail on the kids and other coaches.  That is the true loyalty test.
  20. Please give us your insight on why he won't be a good AD.  I have got to here this.  I don't know where you get that.  If you have gone to just about any BC event the past few years, Josh Smalley has been there supporting that sport.  Didn't get paid to go.  He was just there because he loves the kids.  Are there going to be some bumps along the way?  I would think so.  He is a young coach.  But he is energetic and wants to be there, unlike some of the people you listed that were "run out".  There is always more to a situation that what appears.  Dig a little deeper and maybe you see the truth of how things really were and how people involved really felt.  There are two sides to every story.
  21. I heard we will find out Monday who the new HC/AD will be.
  22. So I guess working on individual skills is pointless.  Such as catching grounders, hitting in a cage, shooting free throws, dribbling drills.  All the things that you must have in order to be good at a sport.  Because it doesn't fit into your little categories, then the kids who practice them aren't working.  You have to have all of it in order to be good.  You have to work on speed, strength, and all those individual skills that you don't work your butt off doing.  Broaden your horizon.
  23. If the numbers aren't down because of a coach, then why did my son tell me that 10-15 new kids were getting into football before we even have a new head coach.  These are kids who played a few years ago, but got out.  I guess they think the next coach will make it easy.
  24. If you get 3rd in district 21-3A, you will play Yates in the 2nd round if you win the 1st round.  You know what that means.  The 1st place team in 21-3A will play them in Regional Quaterfinals.  2nd place will have the easier route, but still have to beat Yates.  All this is based on this past years bracket.
