  1. No chance they are going to beat United unless BU has some players that are missing. Still might not beat them. BU is on another level. I am not taking anything away from Silsbee by saying that. They probably will beat Westbrook and any other team from SE Texas besides United. They have a legit shot at going to state also, but not beating Beaumont United.
  2. Surprises me that Lumberton split with Big Sandy since they are missing so many kids due to football and Big Sandy should have most, if not all, of theirs since they don't play football. What is going on with Big Sandy?
  3. As he stated before, you guys are going to need to agree to disagree. That is why they play the games.
  4. Considering that WOS doesn't shoot the ball all that well, there may be quite a bit of zone run on them by many teams in district. Silsbee won't do this, but IMO Silsbee's swarming defense is going to give the other guards of WOS fits. Size is negated when you turn the ball over before they can get the ball to them.
  5. If you think that WOS didn't some part in what happened, then you weren't at the game. There was constant back and forth from both teams the entire half. The craziness really amped up when a fan got involved. WOS has a ton of potential, but can they stay disciplined and out of foul trouble. Not much depth, especially at the post. Lots of guards, but can they cut down on turnovers and make outside shots. It will be an interesting district race for sure, but IMO there is no way that WOS can contend with Silsbee. I believe that 2-5 is up for grabs.
  6. Please keep Coach Davis at HJ and his family in your prayers. I am not going to elaborate on what is going on since it isn't my place, but I know prayers would be much appreciated.
  7. Maybe he wants to coach his daughter and be part of a team that goes to the State Tournament and has a chance at a State Championship.
  8. Co-Offensive POY-Castillo 1st Team All District- Richardson 2nd Team All District- Boudreaux
  9. OC is going to be a dog fight between LCM, WOS, and OF. Not sure who has the edge. All three teams have solid players. Morris and Elliot for LCM, Wardlow and the big in the middle of WOS, and Wrinkle and Ragusa for OF. Personally, I am going with depth. OF is deeper. They had the better JV and many of those players will step in to help at the varsity level. They have the ability to shoot the ball extremely well. Wrinkle and Ragusa can both go for over 20 on any given night. They have two solid posts that play tough inside. Some others have mentioned the length of LCM. They are big, but no help from the bench. Any foul trouble and they are in trouble. As aggressive as Morris plays on defense, he will get fouls. The big in the middle will foul. Outside shooting will also be a question mark for them. Jeffcoat does a great job with them though, so I never count them out. WOS is a question mark with the new coach coming in. They lost some good players to graduation, but do have Wardlow and the big inside back. Not sure what help they will have from the bench either. Their under levels were not good. Not to discount BC, but what would be their best player (Oceguera) hasn't played all summer due to focusing on football. Their big guy in the middle is going through some health concerns as well. Collins and Britten have been solid, but they can't carry the load in this district. Not real sure about Vidor. I know they lost a lot to graduation as well. Their under levels weren't very good either. They have a wing that is not bad, but not sure what they have after that. Below are my predictions for OC finish and district. Not that it matters. OC-OF, LCM, WOS, BC, Vidor District-Silsbee, OF, Lumberton, LCM, WOS, BC, Vidor
  10. I have seen plenty of athletic teams use this to their advantage over the years. Andre Boutte was the master of it. He would stall in the 3rd quarter if he had a 5 point lead.
  11. In other words, he can't beat Argyle without it. I wonder how this will work when lower classifications play 5A and 6A in nondistrict.
  12. So no destination on where he might be going. There aren't any local head jobs available at this time, I don't think. There are some assistant jobs out there though. Lumberton or H-J?
  13. I don’t think anyone is saying that you, oops I mean Mitchell, didn’t do a good job. A D1 player, especially at the 4A level makes a huge difference. If anyone should take a slight for not being picked to make the playoffs, it should be McClure. That means the coaches of the district didn’t feel he was as good as he actually was.
  14. If they are "homeschooled", they should still have a residence that could be verified the same way as it is for enrollment. The difference would be that they could actually compete for a school they were not actually enrolled in. That can be a very slippery slope.
  15. So who does Hamshire have coming back?
  16. That is a good win. I believe that Flatonia’s coach used to coach at Mumford and played in the state tournament.
  17. I wonder if Yates considered flipping for Wednesday so Silsbee, or HF, would have to play on back to back nights.
  18. WOS fans keep talking about how young they are and what they have coming back. I know that Brown, the twins, and Wardlow are coming back, but who else. And as for the JV, I only saw them play OF, but they got handled by a LOT both times. Not sure there is much on that team that will help next year.
  19. It does look like there will be about an hour after the game is over before the Silsbee game is supposed to start. I would imagine the facility will be cleared and possibly some cleaning done. Maybe on certain sections are open during the first game and the other sections opened during the other game. I see what you are saying about the UIL and I agree that something could have been done to have a regional tournament. State tournament is a totally different animal.
  20. Bobcats keep playoff hopes alive with the win. Need to beat Vidor at home on Tuesday and hope West Orange loses to Bridge City and Lumberton so they can have a play-in game.
  21. I agree there is a drop off, but a 35 point win wasn't expected on my part as well. I saw Buna played multiple times early in the year and would have anticipated a much closer game.
  22. This score really surprised me. Wasn't this game at Bridge City also? Bridge City kept it close against Silsbee. I thought this game could go their way. I will say that Lumberton hits the boards so hard that it could have given Bridge City problems. I wouldn't say they are the most physical team by any means.
  23. So a game was cancelled because one player may have been exposed and that player has to quarantine. They couldn't play a game without that player?
  24. I don’t think a loss to Orangefield shows that they haven’t turned the corner. This district is very competitive and playoff spots are still up for grabs. Orangefield did what they needed to do in order to win the game. Rebound and limit turnovers. On any given night Orangefield has three guys that can go for over 20. That makes it hard to guard them for 32 minutes. Good luck to all teams the rest of the way.
