  1. Lost a lot.  Depends on what transfers from Port Arthur they got.  You never know about that.
  2. Coaches should help athletes get into college but not at the expense of the coach's reputation.  The coaches have to trust that these athletes are going to represent them well.  Just because you are the best player on a team doesn't mean you are entitled to a college scholarship.  Lets face it, basketball is one of the hardest scholarships to get due to numbers and amount of talent.
  3. I heard that Nederland JV-A beat HF Varsity by 33.  True?
  4. I remember that game.  Kirbyville had suspended Pierce Rhodes for something that had happened in school.  We were winning at the half and low and behold he played in the 2nd half and we still almost one.  Funny how those suspensions work sometimes.. ;) ;) ;)
  5. I love how a new assistant coach can keep the kids out of the weightroom.  Why couldn't the head coach?  Is this new assistant coach the AD.  That might be the guy that tells them they have to lift and how much.
  6. The things that you do in universal offseason are not harmful to the athletes.  It is  harmful to basketball because that 50-60 minutes a day is not working on skills that you must now rely on a 14-18 year old kid to do on his own. Even if you open the gym, the coach can not go in there and put him through drills and make him work on individual skills or even team skills that could be done during the period.  A player is more likely to go into a weightroom on his own and go through a weight workout than go do dribbling, ball handling, or shooting drills in the gym on his own. So to answer the poll question again.  Universal offseason IS harmful to basketball by taking that time OUT of the coaches hands to work on things he thinks they need to work on.
  7. I doubt it.  If I had to put money on it, the Enterprise misquoted him.  They did say that Orangefield hadn't done anything before he got there.  They went 3 rounds deep two years before he got there.
  8. But there is nothing wrong with our immigration system in the United States.  Yeah Right.
  9. West Orange is losing just as much as any of the other teams.  Hamshire is losing the least.  The question is who had the better underlevels.  I know that OF beat everyones JV except for Silsbee twice and HJ once.  The OF 9th beat everyone except HJ twice and Silsbee once and HF once.  The OF varsity has three coming back.  I heard they are working hard in the offseason.  A good summer of hard work can make a huge difference come next year.  Lets see who works the hardest.  Live in the gym bobcats.
  10. I heard the guy they hired used to be an assistant in Georgetown.  Must know a little about basketball.  5A programs normally have guys that know basketball as their assistants, especially in Georgetown.  The ex-AD for HF used to be an assistant at Brenham, and I heard he could really coach some round ball.  Give them the benefit of the doubt.  Just because he wasn't currently coaching it doesn't mean  that he can't.
  11. Thank you scoop.  That is what I said from the beginning.  He didn't have to be yelling to get tossed.  No official wants to toss a coach. It is not a good situation.  I agree coaches need to do more coaching and less worrying about the uncontrollables.
  12. I will be a part of it if I want to.  Think about it.  He had already been teched.  Do you really think he would have yelled something that would have brought attention to the situation.  If he wanted to say something inappropriate to the officials, he would have done it in a not so obvious way where other people might not here it.  We hire these coaches to not only coach our kids basketball, but to teach our kids how to react in adverse situations.  Don't you think it was a pretty big stage for an official to make such an important call like a second tech.  It would have had to have been something pretty bad.  Something that maybe you couldn't hear.
  13. Or maybe the coach should act like a role model and learn how to lead his kids.  I wasn't there, so it is hard to say, but I would think the officials were pretty understanding.  You have already been teched once and getting the crap beat out of you.  Coach your kids and quit worrying about things you can't control such as the officiating.  Learn how to act when losing and have your kids follow. JMHO
  14. 21-3A:  HJ and Silsbee stated above.  OF loses 7, WOS loses 7, BC loses all but 2, HF only loses 5.  Looks like 3rd is up for grabs.  Who had the better underlevels and works the hardest in the offseason could make the difference.  Sure hope the Bobcats are working.
  15. I don't get on here much and don't get to follow EC so I was wondering when True Blue pulled his kid from the team.  I saw him play with them during the EC tournament and thought he was pretty good.  Yeah, he wasn't starting, but he was getting to play good minutes.  I was just wondering when and what happened.  That really killed their depth.  He was a force coming off the bench.
  16. West Orange also had 7 seniors and BC had 7 seniors.  OF's JV and 9th defeated both of their JV and 9th teams both times.  Looks like it still could be a fight for 3rd.  I would not count the bobcats out.  I am sure the returners are going to want to get back to those chances at the playoffs.
  17. It takes a mix of many things. You need to have players that are committed and coachable.  If you want to be successful, they have to put time in while basketball season is not going on.  They have to improve individually during the summer as well as playing as a team.  Players will not progress and get better just during basketball season.  Also, you have to have a coach that is committed.  He has to be willing to open the gym and go watch summer league games and put additional time in so his players can get better.  You also have to have a good athletic period situation.  Athletic periods that focus on getting "bigger, faster, stronger" benefit one sport.  Coaches need to be able to design workouts that benefit the kids in their program specific to their sport.  Good teams will come along, but good programs are established by hard work on many peoples part.  Don't lay everything in the lap of one person.
  18. Heard a rumor that WOS kicked off two kids and some more failed.  Any truth to it?
  19. The fact that he was in the game prior to the timeout has nothing to do with it.  He was not on the floor when the ball was put in play.  He is the player that ran onto the floor when the coach yelled.  He did not dive into the stands and have some nachos and come back into the play.  He sat on the bench and ran onto the floor when OF was about to shoot a lay-up.  It really isn't a big deal.  It just amazes me that you will justify something that should have been so simple as calling a technical.  Yeah they messed up with other calls.  None of them changed the outcome of the game.  EC played better than us.  We shot like crap and lost.  That is the bottom line.  In this situation the officials messed up and it really was a situation where they could have gotten it right.  They talked about it for awhile before coming to a decision.
  20. There was a timeout called.  Following the timeout, the players for both teams (5 for OF and 4 for EC) came onto the court and OF threw in the ball under EC basket.  OF brought the ball down the court.  Realizing something was wrong OF threw the ball around the court to the man that was unguarded.  At that point a player from the EC bench ran onto the floor.  The official on that side blew his whistle and stopped the play.  The officials talked and gave OF the ball underneath the basket.
  21. Oldref said in an earlier post that a player can only enter the game after being beckoned onto the floor by an official.  By your analysis, players could run on and off the floor without the play being stopped.  That is called a line change.  Doesn't go in basketball.
  22. I am not talking about the player not being able to be in the game.  I am talking about him not being able to run onto the floor once the ball has been in play.  Once the play is going, he has to wait until a dead ball to come into the game.  This is not hockey.  You must be waved onto the floor by an official while a play is not going on.
  23. I was watching the bench from the stands.  He was sitting down and when the coach yelled his name he just ran on.  He had completely forgotten that he was supposed to be in the game.  It should have been a technical just like they never should have given the ball back to OF after the three.  Quit making excuses and just admit it was a bad call.  Had no bearing on the outcome.  I am not making an excuse for our loss.
  24. 1) The player was not beconed onto the court.  He ran from the bench onto the play after the ball had been in play for a good 10 seconds.  The play was blown dead once one of the officials noticed he had run on floor as Orangefield was about to shoot a lay-up.  I overheard the coach say something after the game about the explaination being the officials fault.  Whether it was their fault or not the kid shouldn't be able to run on the floor. 2)  An Orangefield player made a three pointer.  As he made the shot the official on the baseline blew the whistle.  It turned out to be an accident.  They called a jump ball and gave it back to OF. I recognized all three officials.  One definitely normally does JV games.  The other two I have seen for years do Varsity games.  Would have expected more.
  25. I am pretty sure that it is not legal for a player, checked in or not, to run onto the floor once the ball is in play.  The only reason that the play should have been stopped was to call a technical foul.
