  1. Officiating didn’t cost Silsbee the game.   Silsbee cost Silsbee the game.   Blaming the officials is always the easy way out.   They clearly missed some calls, they always do.   Unfortunately, they missed some big calls.   It’s part of every game.

If Silsbee plays 2 halves of football, it doesn’t come down to a missed call, they run away with the game.   How do you go from giving up 7 points, 24 minutes in, to giving up 41, 24 minutes later?

Cuero made much better adjustments offensively than Silsbee did defensively.   For as great as Silsbee was on offense, to lay an egg at the end of the game was unfortunate.   The officials didn’t do that either.

IMO, Silsbee had the better players, and football team.   Cuero had the better staff, and made better adjustments.   Who’s to say that Silsbee woulda stopped Cuero if they would have ruled the QB down?

Football still has 3 phases and Silsbee was outplayed in special teams, and you can say that cost them the game.

  2. To beat a team like Longview, or Aledo, you usually have to bring your “A” game, and play a near flawless game.

Longview is not 44 points better than PAM, but they were last Friday, because PAM had costly turnovers, missed opportunities, and they let the game snowball.

Programs like Longview and Aledo don’t usually beat themselves (not saying they never have), so you can’t afford to piss away the chances they give you.

Overall, Crosby and PAM are not on that level yet.   I firmly believe both programs can be one day with the athletes they have, and it’s gonna take those perfect games to beat established powerhouses like Longview, Aledo, or a Carthage at the lower level to say they have arrived.

They wasn’t the BG they are now. No where near it but still looks good on paper lol

BG realized they needed to pick up their recruiting after that beatdown.

That’s all that changed.   You don’t go from losing to Gilmer by 40 then winning a mythical national championship, and playing a nationwide schedule in a few years.

They invested heavily in their program after that.

And that's why comparing them to any of the public school powerhouses is useless. It would be like taking some of the best pieces from all the schools in Houston and putting together a team. No doubt they would play neck and neck with those kids.

    Completely agree.

Allowing Texas and A&M to recruit nationally with unlimited scholarships, and the rest of the NCAA only to recruit from within their home state.

Not sure why these high school coaches schedule IMG, SJB, and the rest of the football factories.

  5. I listened to an episode of the Coaches Lounge from this past summer where Coach Negro, from SJB, and another private school California coach talk about their reach from the greater Los Angeles area.

Ridiculous really.   They have 12,000,000 people to choose their football team from.   No restrictions whatsoever.   All the best kids from that huge area go to 3 or 4 schools.

They are nothing more than the IMG model.

High School football has become a joke.

Gilmers defense was way better than I thought they were. Gilmer played their butts off.
The Dawgs D held the 11th team out of 13 to zero points at half time and 7 points for the game. The Dawg starters have held 13 opponents to 27 points in 13 games, that is 2.0 points a game.
The Dawg offense was a little off tonight, but that could be attributed to the Gilmer defense.

I was impressed with the defensive line.   When Gilmer did have success on a few runs, it was to the perimeter, and not between the tackles.  They are big, and agile.   That defense will always be something special for years to come.

I’m not sure a young, sophomore QB woulda made much of a difference either.

  8. The stud WR from Gilmer played QB most of the night.   Gilmer defense played pretty good against the Carthage offense.

I thought Carthage could have ran the ball straight at Gilmer all night, and the got impatient all night long, and wanted to throw the ball.

Carthage is very good, and that was most likely the 2 best teams in 4AD1, but that is no where near the best Carthage offense they have had.   Their defense is legit, and very young, but not great on offense.

Glad he wasn't doing old school Refugio games, he would've blew his top. They were trying to put 100 on you backups in or not, and were throwing deep bombs late in the 4th quarters, don't blame em either, play defense. 😂🤣

    You ain’t ever lied.  😂

They may be right behind Aledo for most points scored in a single season.

  10. Carthage was up 40-0 at the half, then quickly went up 54-0 early in the 3rd.

Surratt pulled all the starters and put in the 2nd string.   VA started scoring their points on the 2nd string, then in the 4th, Surratt put in some 3rd string and JV kids.

VA still had their starters in, still trying to score.    I’m thinking that something else extracurricular was going on, because it’s unlike Surratt to do that at the end of the game.

I don’t mind it though.   If they leave their starters in, padding the stats, then why not let your kids score?

Hamshire in their history have had 2 hall of fame coaches for that program we use to always say what would have happened if Les koenning stayed? He left after the 1975 13-1 season and went to Houston Memorial and lead them too a 12-1 record eventually losing to PNG . Then you had coach Danaher who left after the 1983 season and went too Callallan and you see what he did there . Coach Tarver did great for that school till this day I don't know what happened he had some great teams he leaves goes to bridge city and leads them too an 11-2 record . How do you let  coaches of that caliber leave ? You gotta pay them !!! Imagine if either one of them could have coached there 20 plus years where the program could have been? Coach Waggoner looks like the real deal doing a great job with the team .

Heard a great story from a former HF assistant superintendent.

The community was mad at Koenning because in 74, they lost to Newton in bi-district 14-13.  At the time HF was #1, and Newton was #2, I believe.    Newton went on to win a state title.

People wanted him gone then, saying he couldn’t get it done.   The next year in 75, they lost to LaGrange in the semi’s and LaGrange won it all.

Koenning was very under appreciated.   Sometimes you don’t know how good you have it.

The current coach and staff has done a great job.   Hopefully the community supports him.

Question for others who have seen more coaching changes at their schools.

Is it common to have new Coordinators start during the Summer at 2 a days? Or do they  typically come in sooner? Like sometime in the 2nd semester.

From what I’ve experienced, a majority of the time, they finish out the school year, and their contract at their current school.

If the schools are close in proximity, and the incoming coaches are done coaching a 2nd sport, they will come over to their new school after the school day.

  13. I really hope PAM wins.   Have always liked the kids and athletes Port Arthur produces.

But, I feel Longview wins this by 14.   This Longview team is pretty good, and can match up with PAM athletically, and I feel they are the better coached team, although King can be very conservative.

Hopefully Morgan is super aggressive, throws in some wrinkles, and let’s it all hang out.
