This, you have to have talent, its not strictly Xs and Os.  I have seen coaches destroy talent by running the wrong system. IE had spread personnel but brought in the triple option because that's what he likes.
A good coach looks at what he has, uses the best system to utilize that talent and then it comes down to how does he relate to them, how does he motivate them, how does he adjust when they study your film and take away what you want to do. A lot of the deeper rounds of playoffs comes down to who can adjust the best when your game plan gets thrown out the window.

Great coaching recognizes the talent their players may or may not have then adjust their system around those players to put them in the best position to win.
One example is BISD having lots of talent but without a proper coach the y can't produce wins. Another is Crosby being consistent winners until their coaches left and they hit rock bottom.  One Crosby coach goes to Chapel Hill and makes them winners instantly. There is too many examples of this to list

I think it's a lot closer to 50-50 than most people from schools with a lot of talent believe.  Quite often those athletes are a product of a preparation in a system that goes back 6 or more years.  When you start naming great athletes that came from your program, ask yourself "how successful would they have been if they'd played for a crappy program?"

I use WOS as an example.  The Mustang faithful always go back to it being the athletes, not coaching that made them great.  All they need to do is hire one of CT's old assistants and there WILL be a return to glory, right?  How many WOS kids are in the NFL right now?  How many are playing D1 ball?  Being a part of that program helped to make good athletes have great high school careers.
But it's a mixture... the best coaching in the world won't help a bunch of unathletic kids get to the State Championship.... but top notch coaching can help a bunch of good players have a GREAT season/career.

Everyone keeps saying that”all these people wanted T gone, like bunching the whole community into that…the people who signed the petition are not on here complaining! At least that I know of…I didn’t sign it because I know him pretty dang good and know what the whole situation was about and it was all over 1 kid who got kicked off the team for the 3rd time.Part of it is on coach T though for letting him back the first time,I’ve seen several kicked off and never got a chance again

Play calling has a lot to do with them looking like they do.. they beat their chest against lesser opponents & get exposed when the other team matches their athleticism.. kids gonna make mistakes but you have to put them in the best position to win also

They need to instill discipline and lead by example!! You can't blame this one on the kids. It comes down to coaching. Head coach needs to hit the road!!

Ever since this head coach has taken over WOS is an average team who can't stop anybody from scoring. The superintendent hand picked him. I say we make it a package deal and get rid of both of them. One of the best programs in the state of Texas has been reduced to this!! Absolutely unacceptable!!

Stop it!! Lol,not a gud match up for them.w.o would have to play assignment football against them.if CT was there I could see it.but not with this current staff against that type of offense.they haven't figured it out nor will they ever will.this year they played descent against spread teams.but, against running team look confused.

We are not peaking. At best we are just surviving and beating some teams barely. Stop looking for the future (playoffs) and we need to worry about the game in front of us. Hope is all we have left at this point.

I agree with most of your post but this team is far away from PEAKING right now.  In the last 4 weeks WOS is 2-2 and the only 2 wins are against Liberty and BC.

Cornel did not recommend the hiring of ANY coach I guarantee…that’s been said for a while but it’s not true, the book has been written and will be published hopefully soon and every wondering mind will be able to rest in some aspects of what has happened!

Cardinals played a great game. Sad to see the decline of the Mustang program.   The talent is there just not the direction.

Should have never hired Hickman. He has ruined the WOS dominance.  What a joke.

Run off by adults, not kids.  Anyone that knows CT knows how much he cared about his players.

Never in MY life did I EVER think any thread on this forum would be debating whether WOS would be 3rd or 4th in district much less a possibility of WOS not even making the playoff.

How in the world is the School board (which has former WOS Athletic alumni) letting this happen.

    I’m sad & disappointed.

He was slamming his head set on the ground arguing with the ref instead of trying to coach up the team. HF had some good players. La Marque had athletic kids and when coaching left they ended up like this. I honestly hate seeing Wos like this they need a change soon
