First day was yesterday. Will have spring break to get situated and feel out the school.
Didn't see him at the girls softball game yesterday.  Parents of the girls sports would have liked to see that.

I've been told that one of the local schools will be passing the hat at their game on Friday to assist the Deweyville baseball kids.
Perhaps others could follow suit.

Final was 5-2.

If you wanted to see pitching and good defense this was the game. Memorial was able to get a few hits late in the game to retake the lead and win. Silsbee needs to get their bats working!

Some people will want Silsbee to promote from within and some will want an outside hire.
Whether its from the inside or the outside, I just want what is best for the kids, and hopefully whoever that coach may be, will be able to get the Tigers to a state championship in the not so distant future.

Dontre' Thomas had, and still has my vote for this award! Fortunately both of my son's had the opportunity to play rt tackle  and back up qb this year for DT.  I can say they couldn't have had a better QB/Team leader. Dontre worked his a$$ off over the summer, and this season he set records. He had respect from all his teammates, made 5 second game winning decisions, to say the least.  He is an outstanding kid and athlete! As much as I hate that he is not getting the recognition/respect from some in our area, I can only hope that he knows how much love we SILSBILLIES have for him!  Again such a great kid!!! Much love DT!!! I'll definitely be makeing a trip to Kilgore next year! 

Guys, on page 2 of this thread, I gave my reason for selecting DT and not JD.  And some of you are on Ozensfinest's arse, but he is 100% correct, imo.  It's an individual award and team accolades including state title wins shouldn't be factored in.  Congrats to the young men that won it, but I still feel the Silsbee kid was more deserving....

I will not belittle one for the other but I do view things different than a lot of you WOS fans. Sure JD had good stats but Dontre's are better. And the difference in opinion is that JD led your offense but he didn't lead the team to the state title, your defense did that.

While, I appreciate you taking up JD's case, there is really no need for that, either.  Dontre worked extremely hard over the summer to craft himself into a dual threat QB.  Those that recall the 2014 Tiger season remember him having to leave the lineup on passing downs because he wasn't accurate enough.  That truly changed in 2015 as he became a quarterback, not just a running back taking the direct snap.

Five games. 

I would say WO-S won those games, not JD.
But, in the game against Silsbee here were each players numbers:
Dallas     passing 18-25-176-3-0
              rushing   2-43 TD
              total         27/219 yards, 4TD
Thomas  passing   6-13-149-1-1
               rushing    17-122 3TD
               total          30/271 yards, 4 TD
 
and it's not even close which QB faced the better defense.
 

The only thing Jack Dallas has over Dontre is a state title. Which is an AMAZING accomplishment by the way!!
but, all I heard all year was "chain gang" defense. And that's a big reason why they won it all.
Silsbees defense was horrible in my opinion, and that's why they didn't make it to state. You have to look at the bigger picture. Saying that JD is better than DT because he won a championship doesn't make sense whenever you considered the defenses that these two teams had. Defense wins championships right?? 
DT was the better athlete! You can argue that JD was the better qb, but when it comes to individual performance, DT did it all. His stats are crazy.

Not taking anything away from the State Champion WO-S QB, but it's a team effort to win state.  This award is about individual performances.  It's got to go to the Silsbee kid.  

Silsbee senior QB Dontre Thomas had a record breaking season for Silsbee High School. He broke single season records of most rushing TD's, most passing TD's, most passing yards, most completions, total offensive yards and total TD's. Here are his final numbers:
rushing          250 carries, 1,880 yards, 31 TD's
passing        176-302, 3,146 yards, 40 TD's
total              5,026 yards, 71 TD's
 
He led an offense that also set school single season records with most points scored (669), most total yards (7,007), most points per game (47.8) and most yards per game (500.5)
Dontre really worked hard in the off season and it paid off tremendously. This young man really dedicated himself to get better for his team knowing he was going to be the man to lead them this season.
Big congrats to a fantastic season, Dontre. Job well done!

Thomas is by for the best Q B over 5,000 yards and 71 TD's know one will come close to that for years to come . This is about stats and not Popularity JD is a good QB and much respect on the state title .But that was a team effort. This is a one man show trophy and stats don't lie D. Thomas is your man.

Apples and oranges.  When Coach DuBois' departure was discussed, there was little if any mention of personal interactions with (and more specifically the personal distaste that some revealed for) Coach McGallion.  Moreover, there was not a racial element introduced into who should be the successor of Coach Dubois.  But if those are to be kept out, it would be unfair just to have those who think Coach McGallion hung the moon, so it was a decision, made BY ME to take the thread out of circulation.
That may leave some people unsatisfied, but that will be the way it is.
I wouldn't worry, we are just a few weeks away from the deadline for applications and I am sure that the opinions of who should be HC/AD will be flowing like water. But for now this discussion in done.

Silsbee looked good it's first day of practice Friday and inter squad scrimmage Saturday. I liked what is saw knowing it's just the first two days of practice. The junior and sophomore class are definitely the driving force to this team. A small senior class that will compete and a couple of freshman that will push for time on the field. One parent told me "their not a well oiled machine but it looks like they have oil on them".  I hope the oil keeps flowing. Go Tigers!!!

BC is always tough and never rebuild just reload. But after playing Silsbee last year in the playoffs, I will give them the nod, those boys are tough and never quit. They will be a big force in that district for years to come. Silsbee has plenty of pitching and they have some pretty good bats also.

The defense gave up too much this year, but we were able to make up for it with our fast striking offense. Without the protection of the O-Line, you cannot expect for the offense to be as powerful. A good O-Line can make an average running back look great. With 5 new guys, I would expect the O-Line to be like the 2014 tigers team. The defense HAS to improve or they will have another year like 2014.

Silsbee will have another stud QB next year!

This was the one glaring omission in the all district selections. Silsbee coaches were upset on this outcome.

Congratulations Tigers on a great season. Looks bright for y'all next year with what you have coming back. Enjoyed the game tremendously but that is a haul coming back from Tyler.

Silsbee will be back next year. Alot of young talent and another QB in the waiting.
