I also heard that Silsbee is looking for an opponent for week 4, their bye week.

Glad the Mustangs (and the Cards for that matter) get back to the business of playing ball.

Who'll win?  At this time in our disruptive lives, both towns will.  For a few hours, students, fans, and many alumni, of both schools and towns, will immerse themselves in something normal for SETX.  Heaven knows, many need those few hours.

Just a question Badsanta. What make you think Collins is not a mobile QB?

Not sure Jones was a mobile QB in last years offense either.
    Doesnt mean he wasnt.
I personally believe that this coach is trying to raise the football IQ on both sides of the ball.  It takes dedication.
I saw one special teams play, an no Im not talking about the field goal,  that changed the first half and kept Silsbee close.
The ability to strike fear in a player/opponent and it show on the field was something
new for Silsbee.  It brought them back to life, if only briefly.
I look for more of that to take root.  You cant have swagger without the ability to back it up with results.

L-T, sure sounded to me like you were knocking Collins, saying this other guy can throw and run. I don't think the coach put his second best qb in as the starter. If the other kid had played and got the same results, which I believe he would have, then you would be wanting to have him replaced.
Are you president of the QB club?

Let me clarify, when I said "who can actually throw the ball", I was not meaning  that Collins can't throw the ball. That comment was meant for Lowe, everyone talks about his speed but from what I've seen in practice he can actually throw pretty good as well. That's what I meant, and probably could have worded it more clearly. Not a knock on Collins at all,

    Naw.  No prob.
That game burned me up pretty good, but I do support the coach and kids , especially how they turned it around after last year started looking bleek.
Collins didn't look any worse than Jones last year in his first couple of games.  I'm just looking for progression for next game...

Didn't degrade a player.  Just pointing out something since the other poster suggested Lowe being QB.  I think you read too much into it...
But I do agree.  All need some work...

I'm not so sure any of you saw the 7 or 8 guys in the backfield blowing up the play as soon as the ball was snapped. What would Tre or Kalon do with a rush like that? They'd get sacked. Neither one can throw a ball like Collins even on the off chance they get more than 2 seconds to throw the ball. O line play must improve, receivers must run smarter routes, and play calling must be better. Nothing wrong with the QB play this game.

Need a lot of work on the ol and got to put the ball in the right hands figure this out and Silsbee will be fine . Silsbee has way to much speed and talent. And these guy's can do a lot of damage in the right spot.

blah, blah, blah, heard the same thing last year. Put this player here, put that player there. This aint working, gotta do this. You guys......There is a reason Silsbee tries to schedule top notch teams, teams that are not push overs. They make us see our flaws so we can work on them.  And, just like last year watch this year play out. For me, knowing these players the way I do, I'm going to bet on the players to work their butts off and get it going in the right direction. TigerNation!!!

Mmmmmmm, a couple of fallacies with this one.
First fallacy, the position of every school having turf was not what got the resistance.  It was the position that any school that didn't have artificial turf was bass ackwards and didn't give a damned about its athletic program.
You see, I seriously doubt that if you ask a school board member about the idea of their high school having turf fields, most, if not all, would not be opposed to the general idea of putting artificial turf in its stadium.  They might, however, be opposed to the cost.
Second fallacy, that once installed, these fields become assets. First, as ST413 correctly noted, is the initial outlay is the problem.  Searching online, I found a cost analysis from Field Turf, a company that installs the turf discussed here:
This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up   Mind you, this comes from a company that is trying to convince you of the benefits.  Even they, in the very first sentence of their cost analysis admit that "The upfront cost is higher."  If you scroll down, you'll find out that the initial outlay is $330,000 higher ($700,000 for field turf vs. $370,000 for natural grass).  Only $300,000?  That doesn't appear to be that big of a problem, does it?  Welllllll, here's the problem, Silsbee ISD's Operating Budget for the 2016-17 school year (the year an expenditure for this season would have been authorized) already finds it operating at a deficit of $ -422,267.90. (Source: This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up   So, where is Silsbee ISD gonna get that extra 300 grand? But they should try, right?  I mean, as the folks at Field Turf say "the cost savings over time make it a much more financially-sound decision."  But wait, even with the $150,000 maintenance cost savings over a 10 year period (only $50,000 over 10 years for field turf vs. $200,000 over 10 years for natural grass), the cost of Field Turf over the 10 year period is still deficit spending of $180,000. So this on cost, the field turf does not pay for itself.  And why is the analysis just over a 10 year period?  That is simple, that is the time period that is listed as the maximum turf life for field turf.  So that is right, ten years from now, it is quite likely that at least another $380,000 will be necessary to keep the turf field in good shape.
It is not opposition to the idea of field turf.  It is the inability to absorb the cost of such a venture that is the problem and it is a problem that neither the Silsbee ISD nor any other district that has a similar budget should be castigated for.
Districts are starting to find ways to absorb the cost.  Hopefully more will find a way soon.  Until then, I will merely celebrate those that are able to do so and leave the name calling of those who can't to others.

Oh, I'm onboard with the team... I just have a problem with fans who hassle the officials, then act surprised when future calls go against them, too.
I wasn't at the game... but I wouldn't have gotten tossed out and possibly hurt my team in the process, either.
I'm a diehard BC fan, but I'm not dedicated enough to blindly support our fans and players abusing the officials... regardless of how bad the officials are.

This is ridiculous.  Imo when it counted the most we got out coached and out played. Cards did a good job of prepping and won simple as that. It's a sport and sometimes you win sometimes you lose. Bc and silsbee are always tough competitors but it's the kids playing not us.
