  1. Several years were pretty good for Jasper. But I feel 1980 was near to being as good as the 86-87 teams. Witness their little LB (5-9) playing 5 years in the NFL. Public announcers would go tounge tied saying "And Eugene Seale on the tackle." Tied Huntsville in Pre-district, and tied Hebert in district. Huntsville beat Hebert in playoffs, and went on to win state. I think Jasper clearly showed the Jasper undefeated 1980 team belonged on the same field as the eventual state champion.
  2. I think Rafael Adams went on to play college ball at LSU?
  3. I know I'm getting off topic, but many of those players didn't get that much recognition in high school because they arguably were not playing their natural positions. Take James Hadnot. Didn't even make All-State at Jasper as LB & TE. Went to Texas Tech, moved to running back, broke many Early Campbell rushing records, and made All America. Twice I think. David Scott, from that same team. Out of natural position as a RB, went to Kilgore Jr College, they moved him to WR, another All American. By the way, I expect David is still in the State record books for the longest punt return in State history. 108 yards I think it was. I was privileged to see that, against Silsbee, 1976 I think it was. That record may well never be broken. Yes, I am well. And you?
  4. I would certainly agree on Eugene Seale; replacement player for the Houston Oilers, and stayed five years as a LB in the NFL. Ditto for several Jasper players that didn't perhaps get that much recognition in high school; but stayed several years in the NFL. Zack Bronson, James Hadnot, Red Bryant, John Davis, Weatherspoon, and I know I am forgetting at least that many more. West Orange probably has even more. Most famous to me being Earl Thomas, and Kevin Smith.
  5. Thank you for the compliment! Jasper does have a very deep history in baseball, starting way back in the fifties and sixties.

  7. Clearly, Bellville is better than they were last year. And Jasper clearly was not as good as they were last year. Just listened to the game, but time after time Jasper shot itself in the foot. Fumbles, interceptions, and penalties after penalty. Apparently from comments in prior weeks this has been a common occurrence. I thought surely Jasper would get their act together for the playoffs. Didn't happen. Congrats to Bellville for coming ready to play!
  8. Don't think this will be a trap game for Jasper. Jasper got its wake-up call last year.
  9. And that is not all the story. Jasper also tied Huntsville. Huntsville beat Hebert, and went on to win the state championship. Never long for the good ole days when only one team made it out of district. In Jasper's only trip to the state finals, they were the third place team out of their district.
  10. When you start taking a game for granted, that's when you go down. I do feel sorry for Huntington fans. Good folks there; and they deserve better.
  11. Wow, what a disappointment! Well, hopefully we'll see you in the playoffs.
  12. I had forgotten about the consolidation. And never had thought about the effect on the athletic program. That explains a lot. Sounds somewhat like many "big city" schools that have to share resources.
  13. Congrats Diboll. Boy, did you ever come to play football !!!
  14. Probably a better game for Jasper. I was stunned at how Livingston crashed last year.
  15. How about the 1959 score? Well if you are going that far back, may as well get them all....
  16. And who is the QB that played?
  17. The only caveat that I have is "What if they are in fact innocent of the crime". Sadly there are documented cases where this was the truth. But King was clearly guilty beyond any reasonable doubt. They had his DNA placing him on the scene.
