  1. That is a good move for Huntington. Best wishes for success in 3A!
  2. I think without a doubt, they are saving everything for next week. And Carthage will know that.
  3. I was there watching. I was also fortunate to get to visit with him for a couple minutes while the Oilers had their training camp in San Antonio. For the Oilers, he was listed at 5'9', and 250 pounds! He was a terror on the kickoff and punting teams. Glanville, the Oiler head coach then, said in the first ten yards, there was no one faster in all the NFL. Just imagine a little return back getting leveled by a 250 pound bowling ball. Must have hurt. But he probably was not recruited by the major colleges because he did not fit the "prototype". Not tall enough, etc. but they did not stop to measure his heart.
  4. But on recruiting, I understand not a single Southwest Conference team made him an offer. Reportedly, the first SW conference team he got to play while at Lamar:. University of Houston. Result: 14 unassisted tackles. You think there was not some buyer's remorse?
  5. Yeah, it is hilarious sometimes. No major college will give a Jasper player the time of day; he will play elsewhere; then play several years in the NFL. Go figure. Remember Eugene Seale? And many others.
  6. Vidor, you played tuff!!! Good luck on District, and the playoffs.
  7. Atmosphere is good in my opinion. And the artificial turf lets Jasper better capitalize on its usual abundance of speed. I understand Jasper has re-loaded on speed this year. Carl Limbrick for sure. By the way, how does he relate back to All-State RB Johnny Limbrick back in the early seventies? 1969 and 1970 if I remember correctly. I bet Silsbee fans remember him. I would guess there is a connection. I think it is something in that Jasper water!
  8. They are supposed to, it worked for a few minutes, then failed on me. Check out the KJAS site; maybe it will work for you.
  9. if not, Jasper games are always on KJAS. You can pick up from anywhere in the world on TunedIn app
  10. HJ, you came to play. For sure, you woke up the Dogs! Congrats to both teams for a hard played game! And hello Coach Clay! I think I still owe you a steak!
  11. Once again, it is proven. Take an opponent lightly, and you will pay!!!
  12. Speaking of Olympics, what was the Jasper girl's name that also competed in the 96 Olympics? We lived in San Antonio at the time and I was amazed that a City of over a million people was bragging that they had ONE athlete in the Olympics!!! And little Jasper had two!
  13. I was unaware of Terence playing in the NFL, but here it is. "Continuing his football career, he played a total of nine years as a professional football player: 2 ½ years - NFL (Tampa Bay Bucs, Kansas City Chiefs, and Miami Dolphins) 2 years - NFL Europe (London Monarchs, Scottish Claymores) 6 years - AFL (Houston Thunderbears, Indiana Firebirds, and Arizona Rattlers)." Amazing! And Zack Bronson, eight years with the 49ers. Three Jasper players off the same fotball team played in the NFL; four if you consider Ben Bronson's short time in Indianapolis I think it was. Am I missing anyone? And that 1990 team did not even make it out of District! Amazing when you consider how many 3,000 student plus schools NEVER have anyone make it to the NFL.
  14. Newton, you are bound to get better this year! Good luck the rest of the year. Glad there is no way we have to play you again this year.
  15. I know the feeling! I have been afflicted like that for over 60 years ............... !
  16. Newton will eventually prevail this season. It is in their DNA.
  17. I have read that Vidor has actually been trying to change their image. If true, I am delighted for that. As for Jasper, a murder can happen anywhere. The bad guys can get there on the same roads you drive. It is how the people in the town react to the bad deed that should define the town. And unlike what might happen in so many places; within 24 hours all three miscreants were sitting in jail. And within about a year or so, two were sitting on death row (and have been executed) and the third was serving a life sentence. That is what I hope people remember about Jasper, Texas. They took care of business. No need to change the name. Frankly, I am offended by that suggestion.
  18. Some of Jasper's best teams have been the "young" teams; then they implode their senior years unfortunately. Evidence: last year
  19. Mediocre for Jasper at the time. 4 and 5. But to put it into perspective, as I remember, Jasper played a tough schedule in 1985 and most of the losses were by pretty narrow margins. So to rebound was not that big of a step I presume. I think that was Walkoviak's only "losing" season in his 20 years there. Before he came, and often after he left 4 and 5 looked pretty good. He made having a 5a level program at a small 4a program look so easy that some Jasper people didn't realize just what they had with him. 5a program. That was Hebert's Coach Alex Durley's description as I remember. And that was when 5a was the top level in Texas.
  20. Several years were pretty good for Jasper. But I feel 1980 was near to being as good as the 86-87 teams. Witness their little LB (5-9) playing 5 years in the NFL. Public announcers would go tounge tied saying "And Eugene Seale on the tackle." Tied Huntsville in Pre-district, and tied Hebert in district. Huntsville beat Hebert in playoffs, and went on to win state. I think Jasper clearly showed the Jasper undefeated 1980 team belonged on the same field as the eventual state champion.
