It's an unfortunate injury, but in my opinion, the athlete should participate in any and all activities required of the respective teams they play on, as long as physically able.

I don't completely disagree. Individual drills, running, lifting, etc. I agree are perfectly fine. This incident involved a padded practice where a kid was injured. I just think it would be best for an AD to have the Varsity athletes currently participating in another sport just sit out. It's an activity with a much higher risk of injury. We don't see basketball kids practicing/playing while football season is going on do we? No, because no AD would allow that. Let's have the same common courtesy for the other sports too.

Hate to tell everyone, but if your kid plays college baseball, he will be lifting weights in season and sometimes heavy. Also a lot of running. Carry on….

Meh.. Everyone knows this. The kid that got injured wasn't lifting weights. Supposedly he was hit with a helmet in his elbow. In my opinion the kid shouldn't have been put in that situation. AD should've told the Varsity baseball players to sit that one out. I have no issues with the lifting or conditioning. However, anytime helmets/pads are on there is a higher risk of injury. This AD showed a total lack of respect for HIS baseball program.

At what point do the folks who were bashing the hire come on here and offer their apologies?

Here you go.. I don't apologize for sticking up for Remi getting what I believe he had earned. However, I most certainly owe an apology for simply judging KJ on his coaching record. So, I apologize, I was wrong!

I understand on paper it looked questionable.  But I knew what kind of basketball mind KJ has and his passion for the game.  And he’s always wanted to coach girls.  It was a diamond in the rough situation to me.

I also understand how well liked Remi deservedly is there.  But I think he will end up being thankful he stayed with boys.  I tend to believe things happen for a reason. He’s destined to be a very good one, maybe even a great one.

Couldn't agree more. I think both coaches ended up where they are supposed to be. Even though I am one of the people who didn't want to see Remi leave. He will have a head coaching job sooner than later. He's gonna be great. KJ is also doing one hell of a job with the girls in Buna, and is going to be great with our girls program. In the end, both sides of this argument had merit because both coaches are good! I know OF and Buna should both be very happy with those hires.

And I will say though that we are greatly enjoying the eldest Connell in Orangefield.  I sat behind the bench recently during a varsity game.  He’s gonna be a really good one. But he needs to stay with boys basketball anyway.  He will keep that nice head of hair longer.  (I promise that wasn’t a dig on you Manny!)

You're getting to see what we knew we had in Buna with him. He's a great young man, and the sky is the limit for him.

Sounds like you're bitter about losing either games or kids to Kelly. LMAO... If my son showed the ability to be good at a sport and had the ability to play at the next level, there's no way in hell I'm letting him stay and play for a coach that sucks at his job. What type of scouts are showing up to see a team that loses a football game 71-0?

I don't even have a kid in HS. They evidently broke the rules so they have to face the consequences. The coach is at WB is only stating the correct reason the kids transferred on the paperwork.

West Brook had no problem competing in the toughest district in the state before he got there. Hell they made it to the championship game out of that same district. Parents are pulling their kids because of the product he puts out on the field and his inability to even have those kids prepared to play. What does it benefit him and the kids still at WB to try and hold on to kids that didn't want to be there?

It doesn't benefit him. You just openly admitted the kids are leaving for athletic reasons. Do you suggest he lie on the paperwork? If that's the truth it is what it is. Kelly had this coming. The baseball program has been doing the same kind of things. Do not be surprised if TAPPS investigations head that way next.

Yeah, it couldn't be because it's expensive to go there, or because it has higher academic standards, or it has stringent dress codes, a stricter code of conduct (that is actually enforced) and exists for academics and not athletics.

I'm not talking about any of that with Kelly. All good things. Only talking about the competition they had to play to win a TAPPS State Championship last year.

Because the talent level they play against in every single sport is incredibly sub par compared to the competition the schools in Beaumont play. The "state championships" that Kelly has won and competed for are all on a 2A level or bellow equivalency.

^^^^This right here^^^^ Only 11 teams in the "state playoffs" with them in baseball last season. Only 4 had winning records. That includes Kelly.. Doesn't sound like much competition to me.
