  1. Todd's camp is this week and I know he has at least one more in July.  I don't know he date but I will find out.
  2. Congratulations Ashley.......Coach Sims here!!  Ashley is a hard worker and we are very proud of her here at HJ!!  She lettered in 5 sports last year.....very rare in this day and age!!  Keep up the great work!!
  3. Thanks so much for the kind words!!  I am so glad they enjoyed it!!  It never ceases to amaze me at the turn out we have!  We had 87 campers.  I believe this was the second largest since I have been directing it over the past 12 years. My goal next year is 100!  GO HAWKS!!!
  4. I met and coached against Kit the one year I took the job at Carrollton-Newman Smith.  We were in the same district.  She is an excellent coach and very intense.  No nonsense!!  Good Luck Kit.  Glad to have you in the area......and Good Luck to John at Crosby.
  5. Hey boolester.....is your child in the district?  If so, you can pick up a form at any campus OR if not, give me your address PM me if you want) and I will mail you a form.
  6. Camp is Mon.-Thurs. 9-12  Cost is $65.00.  They get a ball and t-shirt.
  7. HJ is opening up camp to the area this year.  We have 4 gyms to accommodate with two being at the new facility.  Camp is June 7-10 from 9-12.  It is open to boys and girls K-incoming 9th graders.  If, your school doesn't have a camp or would like to go to another one, contact us!!  We normally run about 75-80 campers but we have room for more!
  8. Looking at everyone who is back and all other things considered, ..........same song, second verse..............HJ and Orangefield will battle it out for the district championship again (probably splitting home and home).....3rd is probably a toss up.  I will go with HF because of those returning but after the job the Silsbee coach did this year with what he had returning, I have to put the Tigers in the mix.
  9. Thank you Joe.  The respect is mutual I can assure you.  I would love to meet Kellie some day. As far as the game goes.....I must admit, it did get the old juices flowing again!!!  Not enough to come out of retirement but it was alot of fun!!  We had some great players.  Joe, you are right, everyone should be blessed with a brother like I have.  He is and always has been my number one fan!  He missed his calling though.......he should have been a coach.  He knows the game as well as any coach I know.
  10. I think I am a pretty good judge of basketball talent and I say maybe Yates beats them.  I haven't seen any of the boys teams play that WON state but I have seen a few of the ones that could have (Kountze, HJ, Silsbee, Bullard,Chapel Hill)...and I have seen the UConn women...IMO, no way the guys win.  The argument that there is no comparison between athleticism between boys and girls may be true to an extent but, we have all seen much more athletic boys teams lose to other teams because they didn't match up skill wise.  The guys may be bigger, faster, and stronger but those women can shoot, run the floor, and defend. Geno doesn't recruit egos either and this team has great chemistry!  OConn takes at least 3 out of the 5.
  11. I find it hard pressed( no pun intended) to find anyone who takes their basketball more serious than Hardin Jefferson!!
  12. Next we'll be selecting TRI MVP's!!!!  Anyone ever heard of a tie breaker????
  13. That is ABSOLUTELY absurd!  I have held my tongue as long as I can............This has become a joke.  We have become so concerned about making everyone "feel good about themselves" that we are taking away REAL honors from kids that deserve it.  I also believe that some coaches are too concerned about ticking off a parent if their child isn't selected that they try to include everyone so as not to "rock the boat".  Please don't get me wrong, I am all for the kids but, this should be a distinguished honor NOT  a recognition of 3/4 of the kids in the district.  I remember when an MVP was chosen, 5 first team and 5 second team were chosen. That was it!  (OK, I'm old school..what can I say?)  When I, as a coach (who scouts and prepares for all district teams), can not remember a certain player and they receive all district honors.....there is something not quite right about the process.  Maybe we should call it the "Players who participated and contributed in district" team!
  14. Nice post hoops!!  I agree.  Coach Sanders did a tremendous job.  I know what they lost and I know how down they were.  I would have never given them a chance at post season play at the beginning of the year.  I've only met Coach Sanders once but was very impressed with him.  Congrats Coach on a fine year!
  15. The game is at Hardin Jefferson.  Game time is 6.
  16. I would have thought so but I know there was some talk earlier that they may let her return after she served her suspension.  Good for the coach.
  17. What is sad is that there even has to BE a conversation about whether she plays again or not!  We have got to hold kids accountable.  Not only would it send a poor message to the other players but, what would they be teaching her?  Again, it is inconceivable to me that there is even a question that merits discussion!
  18. In a related issue, is there anyone else that has noticed that KFDM always lists the SETX rankings for boys but NEVER posts the girls' rankings?  I am so put out with their bias sports coverage.  On any given Tues. or Friday, you will see television coverage of 3-4 boys games.  If you are  lucky you may get a little coverage of 1 girls game (if Central and Ozen are playing and the guys are playing afterward).  It's such a slap in the face for these girls and their programs.  I am reminded of 2 years ago when there were 3 area girls' teams in the regional round (2 going to the regional tournament) and rather than cover ANY of those games, they chose to cover a game between HJ and Silsbee boys that had no meaning other than seeding for 1st and 2nd in district.  (Don't get  me wrong, I love my Hawks but come on.........).  I immediately picked up the phone and called the station and let's just say I expressed my opinion....not that it did any good but I felt better!!!
  19. Our Lady Hawks are looking good.  I would LOVE to see this group hang a banner!  HJ has a rule.....you only hang a banner if you reach the regional round.  I think it's a great rule.  The expectations are set HIGH!
  20. Come on Bobcat05.....you're still thinking???  We will definetly have to cut down on our TO's but I'll take our Lady Hawks by 10. Orangefield over Silsbee WOS over BC
  21. WOW....all I can say is WOW!!  Talk about miss being on the sidelines!!!  What a typical HJ-Orangefield battle.  Can there be a better rivalry???  Both teams played so hard!!  Coach Davis made a great move going to man.  HJ's defense really stepped up and got them back in the game.  Orangefield was deadly from behind the arc early as they came out smokin!  Great job girls....both teams!  I miss you poppabear!!
  22. In no particular order.. Yoshica Spears Brittany Scott Brittany James Ang Green Gabrial Maddox KK Little Katelyn Bernsen Memri Carmon Demetria Kellum Kirby Myers
  23. I have to put a word in for my girl here.....Yoshica Spears.  Yoshica and Brittany Scott get my vote.  They are two different types of players and I think the best we have seen.  It's hard to leave Ang Green out of the mix as well.  OK.....I can't pick just one!!  I know they are all great young ladies and are excelling at the D1 level.  I LOVED coaching Yoshica (never coached a kid with a better work ethic and selfless attitude) and I HATED preparing for Brittany and Ang.  You just had to hope you could stop the others because, they were going to get their 20-25.  Wow, that just brought back some memories!
