  1. Nederland has had some bad luck. They probably shouldn't be ranked in the top ten right now but that is not to say they won't be when they get their kids back. They ran into an HJ team that was playing very well this past weekend. Their kids never quit. Coach Smith does an excellent job. He's first class!
  2. HJ struggled.........bad shooting night. They were up by 22 with about 4 minutes left......they went into shut down mode. Hopefully they will bounce back next week.
  3. HJ 89-BC 34 Great job girls. 4 players in double figures. Hats off to the kids for keeping their composure. It could have gotten out of control. Great defense again!!!
  4. The Lady Hawks came out strong last night. It was over before half. The Hawk Hecklers were there in full force and wow...it really fired the kids up!! It was a great atmosphere. I believe they had 5 kids score in double figures.
  5. AMEN Rev!!!! I totally agree!! Girls never get the respect from the media that they deserve. They act like they are throwing us a crumb when they "mention" the scores. Channel 6 does a better job than the other two but still lacks coverage. When games ARE covered, it seems to be predominantly the Bmt. schools. ........and I agree about the football......for gosh sakes, there ARE other games in town!!! Tuesday nights should emphasize basketball...both girls and boys. I realize boys' sports get more support, this has been an age old problem even though girls work every bit as hard, BUT, there are fans out there intrested in what is going on in the OTHER world. COVER IT!!!
  6. MOSTLY 5A......a few 4A. HJ was the only 3A team in the 16 team tourny. Hitchcock, 2A was also in it.
  7. Can't say enough about the job these kids did this weekend. They had people talking about that little 3A school from the country!! Unbelievable heart. They came back in their second game, down 18 mid 3rd......their leading scorer fouls out with 4 minutes left down by 12 and their point guard has 4......they take it into overtime and score 18 in OT to win by 9. They lost to a very good SA Madison team on Sat. after leading by 9 going into the 4th......ran out of steam...Great job overall.
  8. HJ vs. 5A Tomball in the McDonald's Tip Off Classic in Pasadena Thursday at 4:30. Gets the winner/looser of LaPOrte vs. Klein Collins.
  9. Wow....am I seeing this right? Huntington beat Silsbee by 25.......Jasper must be much improved!!! Look out 21-AAA.....there will be no easy nights!!
  10. Thank you etbu. We have some great kids! Another sound defensive performance last night!!.....and EVERY player on the team scored. HJ will be tested this weekend. This is not only one of the best tournaments in the state, it is one of the best in the country. They have 32 girls' teams, including the likes of Dickinson(#1 in 5A, Mansfield Summitt, San Antonio Taft.....)......it will be good expereince for the kids.
  11. HJ beat Central by 9 in a scrimmage. It was early for both clubs. If the two meet up in regular season, it would be a good match up. From what I have seen and heard....... 1. Silsbee (I still think you have to put them up there. They are missing some players) 2. HJ 3.Central 4.Barbers Hill 5. Dayton 6. Orangefield 7. Westbrook 8. Lumberton 9. Memorial 10.Ozen
  12. Kountze has a pretty good 2A team but there is no way they beat O'field, Barbers Hill, Westbrook or even Dayton at the bottom. Dayton is a pretty good ball club. Has anyone seen Hamshire yet??
  13. Ditto whsalumn.......slow start, strong finish! They were a little out of sink with the point guard being out but Sutherland did a good job running the point, especially considering she is hobbled with a broken bone in her foot ( probably having surgery soon). Big girl did a good job last night....17pts., 11 boards, playing with an abcessed tooth. Overall good showing.
  14. HJ......7:30. HJ is beat up. Point guard is out, big girl will see limited action (abscessed tooth) and the Sutherland girl is playing with a small broken bone in her foot and is hobblying. They have a good bench though so they should be ok.
  15. Whose predictions are these Cat? there are a couple that I would have to diagree with. I don't believe there is any way Kountze should be ranked above Lumberton or Barbers Hill. I think The Hill is going to be pretty good this year. Also, Hardin lost every one almost and Kirbyville lost there go to girl. I'm not sure these two teams will be very good. I would agree with the top 5 though.
  16. HJ scrimmaged Anahuac last Thursday. They ran 2 20 minute running halves.......HJ 38-2 HJ 40-6. Anahuac played hard also.......they just could not score or handle the pressure. HJ's defense was very good. They open with PNG tomorrow night.
  17. Sat. was the first day for scrimmages. Does anyone know who scrimmaged and any outcomes? HJ scrimmaged Central. They played it as a regulation game. HJ 59-Central 50. You could definetly tell it was the first scrimmage. Both teams looked good in spots but it is EARLY!!
  18. Basketball practice should start the day you are allowed to start......boys or girls!! You practice with who you have!! It makes NO sense to wait until VB or football season is over! you take the sub varsity kids and get going!! When the vb team is knocked out of the play-offs, you get those kids. This seems like a no brainer to me!
  19. HJ goes to a 32 team tournament in Pasadena that weekend. I agree......Silsbee hands down.
  20. Who is in the Nederland tournament? YMBL is hosting a tournament for girls this year. Does anyone know who is in that?
  21. Ditto for HJ!! It is always a battle with those two teams!!!
  22. 5A Memorial 4A Central, Barbers Hill 3A Silsbee, Hardin Jefferson 2A Woodville 1A no idea Does anyone know anything about Nederland and Pt. Neches this year??
  23. I thought someone was posting for this year.........pre season!!! That WAS last year but I just have to say.........Brittany Scott was not only the best player in that district, she was argueably the best player in the entire state!!!!
  24. the big girl from HJ played a little her freshman year on jv but hurt her knee. she is raw talent. HJ lost one starter. they return everyone else. They have a ki, post player, back who went to Kelly her freshman year and a guard back that went to Cathederal. Both will help them. NEVER count Orangefield out!!! I agree. the kids are competitive and proud. It is going to be a great race in that district.
