  1. Best of luck to you Chris.  You are a class act and an exceptional coach.  Orangefield's loss is definitely Marber Falls' gain!!!
  2. Great post Nash!!!  I definitely  see that pattern!!  Some people just can't except the fact that there are teams that can actually win without resorting to selling out!!
  3. And the jealousy continues!!!  HJ BUILDS their program.  If kids transfer there to play basketball, that is on them.  I have had close contact with this program for years and there is no recruiting going on.  Our coaches are fine men with morals and integrity.  I know that is a concept that some on this board can not grasp!
  4. What a compliment to a program if wondering if they will get to Austin every year is the measuring stick!!!  The majority of schools in Texas are just trying to get into the playoffs.  We don't even hang a banner unless we reach the regional tournament!
  5. Great post Cat!! I continue to be amazed at the lack of support from some of these parents.  Everyone's a coach!  They have lost sight of the fact that the majority of these coaches chose this profession (key word here is PROFESSION.........THEY ARE PROFESSIONALS!) because they love kids and they love the sport.  I am surprised that anyone would want to go into the coaching profession these days.  I had a wonderful career but I wouldn't encourage anyone to go into the coaching profession now and the number 1 reason is parents!  There are some great ones out there and I was fortunate enough to coach alot of their kids.  Unfortunately, the others are beginning to make us forget the good ones!!
  6. Great post Hillguy.  I have no doubt that Pat Summit could coach any men's team in this country.  It has nothing to do with gender.  It has to do with knowledge of the game.  There are some excellent female coaches out there who are not given the opportunity to coach men.  I have always said, women are at a disadvantage when it comes to coaching opportunities because they are only considered for 50% of the jobs where as males are considered for 100%.  I have been around this game a long time and I have seen good and bad of both genders.  I have definitely seen some women coaches that I felt could have done a better job with a men's team than the present coach....and to be fair, I've known some men who would have done a better job than some females.  In her glory days at Texas, Jodi Condrat was asked about taking over the then struggling men's team.  Her response?  "Why would I want to take a demotion?"  Gotta love it!
  7. ABSOLUTELY ABSURD that any district puts 27 players on first and second team.  It is for the kids but lets make it meaningful to the ones who are actually outstanding!  This has gotten laughable!!  What about the poor few that do NOT make all district......better be careful, we may be hurting someone's self esteem!
  8. Thank you Solo.  That is a very nice compliment.  I miss the good ole' days where the gym was packed for the HJ/Orangefield girls!!  Those were some great battles!!!
  9. Yeh, they always think the grass is greanner....their loss.
  10. I have to agree with you Riding solo.  Alot of kids do not want to "condition".  Basketball is a sport where you must condition.  Don't get me wrong, there are programs where the volleyball kids are put through some tough conditioning but for the most part, I don't think it is any where near what is required in basketball.....not on the high school level.  You stated that vb players are pretty much good at everything and that an athlete is an athlete.  My only comment here is that if they are REALLY an athlete, they don't shy away from the conditioning that will make them better.  I think we use that term "athlete" a little too loosely these days!
  11. Congratulations to my good friend Lawrence Williams and the Rebels.  What a job Coach Williams has done!  Your old Nederland coaching buddy is pulling for you.  So are the Hawk fans!!
  12. Perhaps I should have said they are one of the top PROGRAMS in the area if not THE top (program).  Hats off to the teams that have beaten them THIS year.  They are all some very good teams.  My point is that you can not say that HJ is not one of the elite programs in the area.....and this year, once again, one of the elite teams.
  13. The job Todd, Clay and Jeff do is amazing!!  Best coaching staff in the state of Texas (IMO)!!  I've seen how hard these guys work.  They also have great support from the administration and community.  Congratulations to all the guys as well.  Shaun has really stepped up and assumed that leadership role.  Enough can't be said about the "warrior" Persohn is!!!! Everyone on that team had a huge contribution.  They understand their role....one of the many reasons they are headed back to Huntsville for the FIFTH year in a row!!!  Way to go Hawks!
