  1. I'm not a bit surprised....the girl can go! Anyone know how the other Brittany is doing at Houston?
  2. First of all, the statement should have been, "everyone THINKS they know what is going on in Warren Texas." Unless you are at the practice and in the locker room, you know nothing. There are always circumstances to every situation. this was not the first time #6 decided she had better things to do than practice. Coaches deal with these situations every day. For some reason parents and kids(some, not all) alike have decided that it doesn't matter if you practice, if you are good enough and the team is going to win.......play em! That my friend is what is ludicrous. I saw Warren play early in the year and yes, they are a better team with both #6 and the setter that quit BUT, there is so much more to teach these kids than the almighty win. You have coaches that believe that. You should consider yourself lucky.
  3. I heard that from a very reliable source but wether she quit for that reason or because she got her feelings hurt, it's a shame the rest of her team had to be put in that situation. It's a good thing some of these kids weren't playing when coaches could actually disipline them without the parents interfering. Enough said about this situation......the coaches enforced their rules and some people couldn't handle it.........bottom line!
  4. just give credit where it is due. Ok==WOS beat HJ. FIne, it happened and it is over. DONE--- I am just happy to see ---that the 17 and 18 year old boys that you guys are so rough on -- have high spirits for making play-offs! Who cares about who did what against whom during district. It's time to look beyond that and go into bi-district with confidence. I know that nobody wants our teams to lose the first round......or you shouldn't want them to anyway. H-J is going to play-offs. WOS is going to play-offs Silsbee is going to play-offs. Let's wish these teams good luck and hope that they all represent our area with dignity and respect. THe match up against Silsbee and H-J doesn't even matter. They will go into the play-offs in the same positions.
  5. No one ever said anyone "threw" a game. There is a difference in throwing a game and "pouting" in a major contest. I, as an outsider, saw the Kountze game.....it was a good example of some players not taking care of THEIR business and letting one get away. I'm sure the young lady is a fine young lady.....it is my understanding that this player elected to work the concessions at a little league game rather than attend a practice......poor choice!
  6. Congratulations Lady Warriors on advancing. Congratulations also to the coaching staff. Good job thru some adversity. Hats off to you for sticking to your rules. There is so much more to teach young people than just winning and losing and you are to be commended for having rules and enforcing them. It's just a shame some people put their on agenda before the team......it sure lets their teammates down. Keep up the good work and good luck thru out the remainder of the playoffs.
  7. My thoughts and prayers are with John and Angela. We will keep you in our thoughts over here in Hawk land.
  8. Thank you Informer for those very nice words. As a coach, I know I certainly appreciate it. I have been doing this for 30 years and I have had a wonderful ride........thanks to being able to be a part of some wonderful kids' lives. You are right, we are not in it for the money or fame, just to say I have had the opportunity to possibly make a difference in one childs life is all the reward I need. Thanks again for putting things into perspective.
  9. You heard right.....I just spoke with the coach.........like they need any move ins!!!!!!
  10. Have I missed something?? I can not pull up the link and I am not sure why we are congratulating Jennifer but what ever it is........you are 100% right Hawk4life.......she is such a deserving young lady. My exact words to her after the season were"you eximplify what we want Lady Hawk basketball to represent." She was a consitant for our program and I can not say enough about what a fine young lady she is. We are very fortuante in this program to have some very outstanding leaders and Jennifer was one of them. Hopefully I will be informed (my e-mail is down) later as to what honor she has received!!!
  11. This season has been unbelievable. The kids have worked so hard, not just from Oct. to this point but from last spring to this point. They committed themselves and it has paid huge dividends!!! They are such a great group of kids, on and off the court!!! We feel like we are a very close "family" and win or lose, we are in it together!! We are very excited about our trip to Huntsville and hope to be making plans for Austin come Sat. night. We are so fortunate at HJ to have such great support. I don't think there is a school in this state that has the backing from their administration like we do. Thanks to Mr. Noelte, Ms. Scoggins, Mr. Holmes and Coach Martel for all you do for the Lady Hawk program. Our parents have been tremendous this year and we say a special "thank you" to you. As we entered the playoffs, opposing coaches and fans have been so supportive and encouraging also. Thank you for that support!! Wish us luck and we hope to make you proud in Huntsville!!
  12. My first reaction......how in the world do you make that call??? I am sick at my stomach for the Orangefield kids and fans. I can not imagine how you must feel today. I am very proud of the girls from Orangefield today. They proved, what we have known all along, that they are fighters. We love the rivalry that we have with them at HJ and believe me, the Lady Hawks and staff are disappointed FOR them. Can anyone tell us who the officials were? Sometimes each coach chooses one from their chapter. I am curious to know if this official was from the Navasota chapter.
  13. What a tragedy. Our prayers are with her family, friends and teammates.
  14. The HJ coaching staff scouted this one. Diboll got in foul trouble. The big girl went to the bench early 1st quarter and picked up her 3rd mid 2nd. They were not the same team without her in there. They realed off a 14 point lead and then the fouls started to mount. Fairfield is a very good team. Very athletic with a good point guard and post and some good role players. IF HJ can win tonight, we feel like we match up better with Fairfield than we would have with Diboll. There are no BAD teams at this point!!!
  15. I think this is disgusting. So he just sits back and waits to see if his team gets to the playoffs and then.......Jocovan to the rescue?? They got there without him........play without him!!! This is a sad statement of what we are teaching our young people. Screw up but if the game is important enough, we'll make an exception!! Pitiful!!!!
  16. Just a personal note to Paul Sims.........you are awesome. There is not a kid in the state that worked harder then he has over the past few years. I have watched you grow in to, not just a fine basketball player but, a leader on and off the court and a class act. Whatever you choose to do from this point on, know that God has blessed you and that you gave it all you had when you stepped on that court. We are proud of you young man!
  17. We loved having the Hecklers at the girls' game at Barbers Hill. I wish they were going to be at Deer Park.......it is a HUGE game for the ladies!!!! Heck(no pun intended)....it is only about an hour and 20 minutes.....come to the girls game at 7 and you could still make it to the Montagne by half!!! Afterall.......the girls game IS the area round of the state playoffs!! Now, wouldn't it be fun to go to the drum 2 weekends in a row????
  18. Thanks Cat 22. HJ will be supporting Orangefield as well. Where and who are they playing first?
  19. In my opinion there is a difference between MVP and Most Outstanding Player of the district. There is an arguement to be made that MVP should go to the team that wins district but there are teams that win district that are equally talented where as there may be a D1 player on another team that was MVP for HER respective team. Perhaps the district should call this award Most Outstanding Player of the District. I believe this would clarify alot.
  20. Thank you for the very kind words Old Ref. That is quite a compliment to both programs, players and coaches. I thought the officiating was some of the best I have seen all year.
  21. Hardin Jefferson vs.Coldspring 8:00 Tues. Feb. 12 at Barbers Hill. They are playing a double header with Silsbee/Kingwood Park 6:00.
  22. Not only was last nights game a great high school basketball game, it was a show of some very good sportsmanship. This was a physical, hard fought battle with both teams playing with so much heart. In spite of the fierce rivalry, both teams displayed great sportsmanship. I know both of these teams love to beat the other one but, after the game, I witnessed two players, Katelyn Bernsen from Hj and KK Little from Orangefield actually pat each other on the back. They RESPECT each other. That says alot. These are 2 very fine players that have made such a great impact on their respective programs. We have some of the finest players in the state in this district and one of the finest districts in the state. Good Luck to all of them in the playoffs!!!
  23. Katelyn Bernsen HJ 33 points 10 assists vs. Silsbee 20 points vs. Jasper
  24. There is no way Orangefied is coming to HJ and resting. Those kids are too competitive. So are the HJ kids. This should be a great game. Alot is at stake for HJ.......win this one and they go in in second. Looking down the road, that could be big. Everyone stepped up for the Lady Hawks tonight. The big girl was out with the flu and the Sutherland girl didn't practice Mon. due to a nagging injury(she has been playing all year with a broken bone behind her big toe)....the other kids REALLY stepped up big. Great win against a very good team and an awesome player in Ang Green.
