  1. I totally agree with you Cat22. Silsbee has some very good talent and some great athletes as well. Bob Kellum does a great job and their tradition is rich. I'm not sure about Austin, like you said, their are some very good teams in this regiin. HJ will be stronger than last year. They will be stronger at the post position and they are returning some very quick guards. I would not put them in Austin but I think they will contend for the district championship. I hear all of their bb girls are running cross country so they will at least be able to run with you.
  2. Which team in the area is closest to having the "total package"? .........athletes, offense, defense, coaching, tradition, etc. Is there a team in our area this year with a shot at Austin??
  3. Surely bubblegum jsut wanted to get a rise out of everyone!!! He can't be that misinformed!!! What is he a band director???? I say that because he obviously knows very little about basketball talent!!!! I saw HJ this summer as well.......look out 21AAA.........this could be a run-a-way!!!! HJ is the quickest team I've seen in awhile and their guards are excellent shooters........Silsbee and Jasper....not even a close second.
  4. The coach seems to think they will be better than last year. I would pick them about 4th right now. they have 3 returning starters but they lost the Carmon kid.....they have some pretty good guards back. It's always a big rivalry game between them and HJ and O'field!!!
  5. KELLY?? hmmmm..... Jasper may be a sleeper in that district.....they improved so much last year and that coach does a good job with them. they had a good 8th grade group with alot of athletes. they may sneak up on some people. I'm still picking Silsbee and HJ to battle for the top spot in that district. Kountze will be much improved. Don't know how they would match up against the larger schools though. I agree with the comment about Woodville....I saw them play at the Lamar team camp..VERY ATHLETIC.....dont' know much else about them but they were impressive at that camp.
  6. OK......I'm getting the fever. Which teams ( any classification) are going to be the top teams in the area? Here are my picks: Silsbee Central Hardin Jefferson Lumberton Orangefield
  7. What a nice tribute to a well deserving lady. I'm sure there are many more who share your feelings. Good Luck Linda.
  8. I know WOS 2quick was just trying to start something........he can't be serious!! HJ will dominate next year. Donahoe was a great player but their other kids will step up....Silsbee may give them a close run but that will be it..........HJ goes undefeated in district and gets back to Austin!!!
  9. She will be playing with Yoshica Spears. Yoshica graduated from HJ last year and had a tremendous freshman year with the Lady Apaches. It will be great to see southeast Texas represented so well. Good luck Brandy.
  10. It is so refreshing to see a player giving credit to their coach!!! I know Coach Wooldridge and I know he works hard. ladybronco30, you seem like a very classy player. Good luck in college.
  11. Good hire by Lamar. Sondra will be a great addition. that was a very good move on Coach Tidwell's part. I think they will work great together. With her local ties and his great recruiting record, I can see the crowds coming back already!
  12. Any word from anyone from Orangefield on the rumor that Coach Ancelot is headed to Lamar as an assistant???
  13. Move her to Hardin Jefferson. We love quick guards that can shoot the ball!!!Does she have a sister that is, oh, maybe 6'0"???
  14. my vote goes to Donahoe!! Not only is he a great player, he has a great attitude and is a great team leader. He is TABC 3A player of the year and up for Mr. Basketball.......enough said!
  15. If it is true that Lamar has not offered Ryan anything, that is a real shame. This is not only an outstanding player but a young man with some character, something I think Lamar could use . Ryan will land on his feet whatever his decision. I agree with whsalum, I don't think the red and white is a good fit for him either. this is a great young man and someone will be lucky to get him.
  16. I agree mamacat. I for one am sick of hearing "typical Lamar". They are making great strides. Jimmy Simmons has done a tremendous job since taking over as president. If we had more support and less second guessing, who knows what might happen. I support their choice for the Women's coaching position 100%. Give the man a chance!
  17. oh God whsalum, don't tell me Sims' is genetics!! Have you seen his daddy?? they're gonna have to let out the elastic in his waistband if it's genetic!! He IS a shooter!! I hear he has an aunt that could light it up pretty good also!
  18. this district doesn't go down much next year. I agree, the toughest 3a district in the state this year. the top teams are still going to be pretty salty next year. here's my take on it: 1. Silsbee- loosing very little. they are so athletic and have alot of depth. I think they have to be the favorite. 2. toss up between O'field and HJ. Both good programs. Both returning some good players. They match up well. should be a good battle. 4. Kirbyville- lost a key player but had some decent young kids. 5.. Hamshire Fannett 6. Bridge City 7. WOS- the well has run dry. 8. Jasper they may surprise some people. that guy is doing a good job with those kids.
  19. you don't have very high aspirations for Lamar do yu baseball25?? Are you going to be satisfied to sit and watch a bunch of mediocore players just compete??? I for one want to see Lamar contend at the national level and believe they can. I agree with bobcat, they are going to have to take baby steps but a Division 1 program must strive to compete with the LSU's, Tenn.'s and North Carolina's!! Why else do we field a team??? And if I am not mistaken, Lamar baseball has been ranked in the top 25 in the country several times!! Not to mention our women's basketball program being in the elite 8!! THAT is what we are striving for. Good Luck Coach Tidwell. Rome wasn't built in a day but with some local talent meshed with other outstanding players, I believe he can get them there.
  20. It is great to have local talent on a local college team. In a perfect world you would just go out and pick yur team from the surrounding area. I LOVE to see local kids playing for Lamar.....whatever the sport, But I am realistic enough to know that we are not going to compete at the D1 level by filling our rosters with primarily local talent. Everyone blames these coaches for not recruiting our local players. Many of these kids have been approached and simply are not interested. We have to have faith in the people hired that they are going to be a good enough judge of talent to pursue it, wether it be from Deweyville or Denmark!
