Didn't they have a full team of Seniors last season, I'm sure this year will be a BIG step backwards for the birds. I gotta make it to some of those Vidor games this year, they have a couple of talented players. But as always, depth and consistency will be a problem for the Pirates. I don't think they will be a pushover in this district, playoffs not likely though.

I heard from someone who has a son on the team that the kids think the assistant coaches do better than the head coach.  At first I thought these kids just don't want to be coached hard, but then I remembered we've heard this story out of Lumberton before.
Same parent told me that the head coach has a bunch of user names on some message board and posts about himself.  I said no way on that one!

Having been through this twice and starting again with my youngest for the next few years, all I can say is Measurables, Measureables, Measurables. All starts there! What camps has he been to? Who is promoting him, Getting him out there? It’s tough

Then you either stayed drunk or watched too much Nutflix.  WOS has changed coaches twice in 44 years  and considered by most to be relevant.  I don't look for that to change.   As far as the BS goes and people exiting stage north...BYE...they're not cut from Mustang fabric anyway.   Let those folk sop them up like gravy with a biscuit and deal with em in their strife for relevancy.
 

Kinda sounds like to me LCM will become WOS. Coach Peevy will recruit the best WOS players and WOS will be irrelevant going into the future. LCM’’s future looks promising but not so much for WOS. 

That's why it's hard to get good coaches to come to SETX if they're not from there, even when you combine the HFC and AD positions. Not that money is everything but you can make significantly more of it coaching at some of the multi-ISD schools and not have the administrative headaches of the AD role to deal with. I think PNG may be the only outlier? 
 Says Foreman got a 25% raise to over six figures when he left Central for Shoemaker. He was making about the same as CT was at WOS at the time. Killeen ISD also probably has a more accelerated pay scale than the one at WOS, meaning he's probably gotten bigger raises in 5 years than CT got in 11 years. I know one of the main reasons Flannigan couldn't wait to leave Westbrook is that the guy who replaced him, Coach Riordan, was making close to $50k more than him at Crosby in 2017. I think it would be tough to get a "big name" head coach to take the job because it would mean taking a significant pay cut.

Peevy got coach of the year. Now everyone can relax. Instead of worrying about awards let’s go recruit for the coach he needs more players. send the man some money also!😉

Those were the teams I was referring to in my post, that was a really talented group. I knew they had some great regular seasons as well and went 3 rounds deep in the 5a playoffs. They didn’t have the long undefeated streak running up to the end of the season that generated a lot of buzz and comparisons to the 64 team. Those teams, as good as they were, did not win the district title but the 2016 team got a CO-DC (8-2, 7-1) record, also a very good team. If I were to guess I’m sure coach got some COTY votes during those seasons as well. 

I think it should be mentioned that Vidor had their best season since 1964. This years 1 loss team had a better regular season than any that came before them in 57 years. Some of those old Pirate squads went deeper in the playoffs and they had more talent in my opinion but they lost some close games. This years team figured out a way to win almost all of their close games. I’m telling you it was almost magical, they pulled some impressive comeback wins out of nowhere. Coming back from a big deficit to steal the game late vs Silsbee. Pulling out a last second TD and 2 point conversion to steal the game vs Jasper. Coming all the way back from an almost insurmountable hole vs Lumberton to steal the win in the 4th quarter. All of those games at home in front of a rowdy and amped up crowd. It was a great season for Coach Mathews and the boys… almost magical.

You ain't lying, I'm tired of the East Texas teams as well. What are the odds, both first round exits for Vidor in 4A have gone to the state semis or further.😅

Pirates coached by Mathews went to lcm and smacked them around for 4qtrs…playoffs DO NOT matter when it comes to district awards!

Pirates lost to CH by 5 with an injured riddled team when Mathews wasn't even on the sidelines. LCM lost in the 4th round by 17 with Peevey. So?

Nah....peevey lost to The Coach of the Year!!

The COY choice could've went either way, imo. Peevey had a really impressive turnaround and Mathews pulled off a few crazy last minute wins all season.

Thats because selections are made prior to playoffs....🤦‍♂️
and with that being the case....Mathews is Coach of the year!

Congratulations to all these young men.  The ability/drive/commitment  you used/have that made you a success in TX HS Football should be the same assets you use to be a success in life.  Take’em and use’em.

That would be really good news, Vidor should be able to finally have some success in the 4a playoffs if that happens. The last two years the path to the state semis began with knocking the Pirates out in the first round. Needless to say, I’ve seen about enough of those Eastex teams…

All I’m saying is big J showed up big time for 3 years, so many times I watched him step it up and make game changing plays when we needed it. He kept us in the game or set us up for success and he usually saved his best work for late game crucial situations. An impact player, if only they could have figured out how to integrate him into the offense better. In the other kids defense, it’s not really a fair comparison just yet. He could come out, be unblockable and set the world on fire next season. I hope he does… just not when they play the Pirates lol.
