you'd have kids having to wake up at 5 to catch the bus or not getting home until 6:00 in the evenings. it would not work. grades would suffer, test scores would suffer, and absenteeism and truancy would rise, all in the name of a better football team? You'd also be greatly decreasing the amount of opportunities for kids to participate in extracurriculars. Combine all of the sports, drill teams, cheer squads, UIL teams, and anything else you can think of, and you have half the spots and twice the kids. To be honest, just about the only thing that would legitimately benefit would be football, and maybe band, although I think there would be some marching band culture lost if you combined the two schools. Are we really doing this so that the new Timberbruins football team can go 7-4? The basketball teams have enough success separated.

Beyond impractical. How many cities the size of Beaumont in Texas only have one high school? In population, but especially in area. It wouldn’t make sense to be bussing kids 30+ minutes (without even beginning to factor in stops) one way just to have better sports teams. Not mention having to build a new school, replace the staff that wouldn’t travel the extra distance, etc.

NFHS finished its quality night with me watching a soccer game that went to a shootout. The AI camera kept going back to focusing on a random ball on the field 40 yds from the action, so I only got to see 3 of the shootout shots 🤦🏻‍♂️

Great season

Pretty annoyed with NFHS tonight. No Brookeland feed, Texline/Jayton cut out mid-3rd and hasn’t come back. No idea who’s winning Hearn/Marlin because there’s no score shown and can’t hear the announcers.

I don’t disagree with you. That said, it’s accepted and embraced in football. And while I get that the enrollment numbers can play a bigger role in football, I don’t hate some of the big city schools that find a way to be in lower divisions being split and giving small towns a better chance to succeed. We also had the opportunity for bridge city and Hamshire fannett to play to go to state, which was pretty fun. So I guess I have mixed feelings about it. I definitely have less of a problem with splitting than i do with 50% or more of the teams in most districts making the playoffs to begin with.

I'll never claim that every job lost should be cut, or that mistakes aren't made in haste. But you're really doing the whole democratic propaganda thing? Instead of focusing on whether or not the position is needed the left insists on bombarding us with sad sob stories about people laid off. in 2024 there were 20.3 MILLION employees laid off or discharged in the US. So can we quit pretending the left cares about laid off employees now? They're only upset that they're losing influence and programs to pour money into.

Maybe the younger Barrier wants this, but it's gotta be tough at that age being uprooted over and over. I know some of the friendships I made in high school are strong to this day, and those were four of the best years of my life. I can't imagine having to start over literally every year from 8th grade on.
