Artest leaving Houston to sign with Lakers
bullets13 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
i'm sure he's okay with it. this is a big signing for them, and probably makes them the frontrunner to win the championship again next year, especially if they get odom back. -

tvc and i are offering a group rate. you pay half as much and get us both, but we drink twice as much of your beer. (you also will most likely catch half as many fish) -
i just call it like i see it a coworker of mine has had a huge crush on him for the last 3 or 4 years, and i've been trying to tell her how exceptionally average of a player he is, even if he does have a cute butt. VINDICATION!

after losing the first game of their series, the rangers won the last two against the angels to pull to within 1/2 game of the angels. the angels have been incredibly hot lately, so this was an impressive effort. tonight the rangers blew a 6 run lead, including giving up 3 in the 9th, but won it on a walkoff HR with two outs by Hank Blalock. what a game!

Breaking News:Suns trade Shaq to Cavs!
bullets13 replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Shaq is getting old. i think he'll benefit from being in the Cavs' slower system, but it's still a matter of whether or not he'll be able to hold up all year. it might be a good idea for them to let him rest up for about the first 60 games and then let him come back in time to get in shape for the playoffs. -

my advice, get a good guide. i hear bullets13 Q is an excellent guide for in and around the keys... -
he hasn't done crap in two years. get over yourself and take a few weeks in AAA ball to get yourself right, and then come back. they don't need him anyway. he's a better hitter than he is a pitcher, and he's not really that good of a hitter.

HOUSTON (AP) - A federal judge has rejected Roger Clemens's bid to revive some of his defamation claims against Brian McNamee, clearing the way for the former trainer to file his own suit against the seven-time Cy Young Award winner. U.S. District Court Judge Keith Ellison on Tuesday reaffirmed his earlier ruling against Clemens. If Clemens ``believes that the federal investigators or the Mitchell Commission overstepped the bounds of the law, he is free to bring suit against those enemies, subject to possible immunity,'' the judge said. ``This is the final nail in Clemens' Texas coffin,'' said Richard Emery, a McNamee attorney. He said McNamee intends to sue Clemens for defamation. ``We want Clemens to testify in New York against his former Yankee fans and see what they think of him,'' Emery said Wednesday. Clemens' attorney, Rusty Hardin, did not return a call from The Associated Press. McNamee has told federal agents, baseball investigator George Mitchell and a House committee that he injected Clemens more than a dozen times with steroids and human growth hormone from 1998-2001. Clemens has denied using performance-enchancing drugs. The judge in February dismissed most of Clemens' defamation lawsuit, saying statements made in the Mitchell report on doping in baseball are protected. McNamee's attorneys said the lawsuit had no merit because McNamee was compelled to cooperate by federal investigators. Ellison agreed, though he left in McNamee's statements to Andy Pettitte, Clemens' former New York Yankees teammate. McNamee told Pettitte that Clemens had used HGH and steroids, and Pettitte testified about the conversation to Congress. Clemens is under investigation by a federal grand jury in Washington that is trying to determine whether he lied when he told a congressional committee that he had not used illegal performance-enhancing drugs. Clemens said he had not been summoned to testify before the grand jury.

with 7 extra spots, maybe you and i and aries can get our first callups. i think one of us might be able to find the back of the net against grenada.

sweet. thanks.

You're gonna need TeleFutura or Galavision to get a look at Torres because he went back to Pachuca and didn't make the final roster. didn't know that. it shows him still on the link provided.

The USMNT Player Pool Keeps Growing...Maybe
bullets13 replied to Bon_Mot's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
having too many players is never a bad thing. then again, if he's not good enough to play for a program that's not as good as us, will he really be able to make a difference? -
interesting reading. bound to cause some problems, though.

I'm interested to see what Davies can do with some full time against lesser opponents. hopefully Torres will get a chance as well.

don't misunderstand me... there are tons of all-around athletes in the various sports, and those guys dominate their sports. i have plenty of respect for those guys. here's the point i'm making: In football, you can make a successful career out of being simply: unnaturally Big (linemen) or unnaturally fast (wideouts). In baseball, you can make a successful career and not even be particularly athletic by throwing hard (David Wells) or being huge and hitting the ball a mile (i realize this takes skill, but i wonder how long Cecil Fielder could run before he'd have a heart attack) In basketball, you can make a successful career of simply being 7 feet tall (Sean Bradley, Minut Bol, George Mhurasan, etc, etc) In soccer, if you are not: very talented, at least fairly fast, and have incredible endurance, there's no way you'll be successful on even a division one college level.

this perception that people who do not play soccer have about the quality of athletes that play soccer frustrates me to no end. we've had this debate on another thread already, but: a soccer player goes for 90 minutes. each team gets three subs, and that's it. once you've been subbed, you may not return to the field. 8 players from each team NEVER come off the field. a soccer player often runs over 5 miles in a 90 minute game, mostly in sprints. soccer is a much more physical sport than people give it credit for being. soccer takes more skill than any of the big three sports. try to go out and use your feet to accurately kick a soccer ball 40 yards. i know a lot of non-athletic, non-basketball players who can hit a three, or non-football players who can catch a pass, or non-baseball players that can make contact with a decent fastball. unlike the big three sports, soccer cannot be dominated by someone simply because they are fast, or tall, or big. in certain cases those attributes help, but being a good athlete and having actual talent are much more important. while the most talented players prevail in these other sports, there are always roles for incomplete players based simply on a single attribute.

as far as i know, all of them were born in America. it's possible that Onyewu or Edu weren't, though.
-
did you play soccer? i'm not saying this condescendingly, i'm just asking. the fact of the matter is, if one team is having to run twice as much, it's not going to take long before the team who's chasing is going to begin getting beaten one on one, outjumped for headers, etc. If you take the same two sets of athletes, and switch the roles, with the US working the ball perfectly and Brazil chasing, you would see the same results, but with Brazil losing one on ones and headers. also, we have a BIG team when it comes to soccer. Altidore, Jozy F 6-1 175 Bocanegra, Carlos D 6-0 170 Bradley, Michael M 6-2 175 Dempsey, Clint F 6-1 170 Edu, Maurice M 6-0 170 Howard, Tim GK 6-3 210 Onyewu, Oguchi D 6-4 210 Spector, Jonathan D 6-0 180 Guzan, Brad GK 6-4 210 I can only think of about five players throughout the world who have achieved any notable success as soccer players who were taller than 6'5'', so size is not that important, and our team is plenty quick.

it had nothing to do with bigger, faster, stronger. it had everything to do with the gap in class. they won balls because they were fresh, and perfectly positioned. all of the 50/50 balls were us desperately clearing the ball, our forwards trying to run onto it, and their defense standing stationary waiting on it. advantage, defense. they weren't open because they were faster, but because they would string 10 perfect passes together until somebody ended up with the ball in space. this led to us chasing the entire game, which in the end wore us out, and THEN we were slower. that had EVERYTHING to do with the fact that our guys had to run twice as much as they did throughout the game. their advantage was nothing to do with athleticism, and everything to do with skill.
