  1. Tim Lincecum is no-hitting the Padres through six tonight. he's also extended his scoreless inning streak to a whopping 29 innings and change! man, i hope i didn't jinx him!!!
  2. leaves a lot unanswered, and how did it take so long to find him???
  3. can you imagine trying to tag one? that would be tough!
  4. which raises the question... why is bron bron confiscating tapes to make sure nobody sees it?
  5. again, i'm not trying to hate on him. i just think Dickie is overrating him. he was a great player, but seeing as all of SETX basketball is so weak with the exception of the great and mighty Ozen, he inflated his numbers his whole career against weak, physically inferior competition. he was coveted much more for his size than his skill. sure, he could play, but just because he had some skill while a couple of other big guys from the houston area tripped over their own feet everytime they walked does not make him a phenom. also, lumping him into the same categorie as lebron james ruins your credibility on this one a bit, dickie, as does your obvious (and completely understandable) predjudice when it comes to kendrick. lebron was a phenom. he was drafted 26 spots ahead of kendrick, and was an instant all-star, averaging 21 pts/6 rebs/ 5 assists as a 19-year-old in his first full season. now THAT's a phenom. perkins went for 2.2 pts and 1.4 rebs in only 10 games his rookie season. while i like what perkins does for the celtics, and would love to have him play for my favorite team, he's never been a phenom. his career year last year (in his 6th season as a pro) of 8.5 pts, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks a game is far from phenomenal.
  6. because he was enormous. it wasn't because he was an incredible basketball player. he wouldn't have been so much as a blip on that radar had he been 6'6''. i'm not saying he's not talented, and i'm not saying his numbers weren't impressive. what i am saying is that if i was 6-10 and a jr/sr in high school, was probably 5 inches taller and 50 lbs heavier than 9 out of 10 centers that i played against, it would be difficult NOT to average 25 pts and 16 rebounds a game. Again, i'm not trying to disrespect perk at all, he was a great HS player, and he's worked himself into being a serviceable pro, but phenom does not at all come to mind. to me phenom has much more to do with talent than with being a spectacularly large physical specimen.
  7. with all due respect, Perkins wasn't a phenom. he was simply... tall and thick.
  8. The Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors, living up to the wild tenor of the past few weeks in the NBA, have hatched a complicated sign-and-trade arrangement that went through numerous constructions Wednesday before resulting in an agreement in principle that will send Shawn Marion to Dallas and also absorb the Raptors' much-anticipated signing of Hedo Turkoglu. Sources close to the negotiations told ESPN.com on Wednesday night a trade call has been scheduled with the league office for Thursday, indicating all sides have agreed to the terms of a transaction that, in its final form, will also involve the Memphis Grizzlies and the Orlando Magic. 9. dumb move. he'll take WAY more heat for this now.
  10. I notice that when you quoted the statement and compared BO to Frederick Douglass, you left off the part about "a nice-looking guy". he was "distinguished"... ;D
  11. The Rangers took 2 of 3 from the Halos IN cali, so they have now regained 1st place after trailing the Angels for a couple of weeks!
  12. i was thinking "Powder", but casper will work.
  13. Well we were putting a few, a very few of Bidens to counter Palins. Ok Lord knows I've misspoke and I've also sat dumbfounded with a brainfart at times. i know i have as well. it generally happens when i don't know a lot about the subject i'm talking about... i will say this: it seems that the quotes being brought up by biden mostly hinge on insensitivity. most of palin's hinge on ignorance (not stupidity). i can live with insensitive politicians, especially if they're likely just making a bad joke. an ignorant politician is a different matter, and i'm glad that we don't have a vice president who's having to learn the basics as she helps run the country. Really, you came awful close to having Hillary. i can honestly say i would've voted McCain and not thought twice about it.

  15. i'm not arrogant. i'm just having a good time. i just figured since we were listing "dumb quotes", or "misspeaks", or whatever you want to label them, i'd put a few of palin's on here to counter biden's.
  16. "As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border." --Sarah Palin, explaining why Alaska's proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, interview "I think on a national level your Department of Law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out." --Sarah Palin, referring to a department that does not exist while attempting to explain why as president she wouldn't be subjected to the same ethics investigations that compelled her to resign as governor of Alaska, ABC News interview, July 7, 2009 "[T]hey're in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom." --Sarah Palin, getting the vice president's constitutional role wrong after being asked by a third grader what the vice president does, interview with NBC affiliate KUSA in Colorado, Oct. 21, 2008
  17. Since we're bring up stupid quotes, here are a few from Palin: Which newspapers does Palin use to help form her world views? "All of 'em, any of 'em that have been in front of me over all these years." When Courig asked Palin which Supreme Court rulings she disagreed with other than Roe v. Wade: "Well, let's see. There's -- of course -- in the great history of America rulings there have been rulings." When she was a mayor, and a councilman objected to the $50K she spent renovating the mayor's office without the council's consent: "I'm the mayor, I can do whatever I want until the courts tell me I can't.'' On Afghanistan: "They are also building schools for the Afghan children so that there is hope and opportunity in our neighboring country of Afghanistan." After originally supporting the "Bridge To Nowhere": "I told the Congress,'Thanks, but no thanks,' on that Bridge to Nowhere."
  18. those stadiums were pretty modest... i have no idea how many people will travel to see these world cup games, but it's likely in the millions, so they're going to need much nicer, much more accessible, much larger stadiums. the world cup should've never been given to South Africa anyway. their country is nowhere near advanced enough to host the largest sporting event in the world.
  19. at least if you're of the mindset that any publicity is good publicity.
  20. JOHANNESBURG -- South African construction workers went on an indefinite strike Wednesday at stadiums being built for the 2010 World Cup -- a move that could derail Africa's historic first World Cup tournament. Thousands of workers at stadiums across the country put down their tools after wage negotiations deadlocked earlier this week. Workers are demanding a 13 percent pay increase while employers are offering 10.4 percent. The strike could delay completion of flagship projects such as the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg and stadiums in Cape Town and Durban. Other stadiums in smaller towns have also been affected. The venues need to be completed by December to meet deadlines set by the game's ruling body FIFA before the tournament kicks off in June 2010. Lesiba Seshoka of the National Union of Mineworkers, which represents construction workers, said 70,000 workers were involved in the strike, which would continue until employers met their demands. He said the union was not worried about the completion of the stadiums -- that was a concern of the tournament's local organizing committee. "We are worried about our families getting food, not a rich man buying a ticket to watch a game," he said. Joe Campanella, from the South African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors, which represents construction companies, said only 11,000 workers took part in the strike. He has said the deal offered by employers amounts to a 65 percent increase, including benefits. However, the unions have complained that some workers are earning about $1.50 an hour and others $5 a week. Workers in South Africa are supposed to earn a minimum wage of about $200 a month. The strike has been criticized for jeopardizing South Africa's chances of hosting a successful World Cup -- a monthlong event avidly watched by hundreds of millions around the world. But the Congress of South African Trade Unions, which represents the country's largest trade union federations, has come out in support of the construction workers and says the dispute is not targeted at the World Cup. "COSATU, and the construction workers, are as passionate about the 2010 World Cup as anyone, and will do everything possible to ensure its success. But we will not tolerate the stadiums being built by workers who are underpaid or working in dangerous or unhealthy conditions," the organization said in a statement. Danny Jordaan, chief executive of the local organizing committee, said the strike would soon be resolved and was confident the stadiums will be completed on schedule. "The construction workers have been the lifeblood of the 2010 FIFA World Cup project. Their hard work has ensured that we are on track to meet our deadlines and that our stadiums will be among the best in the world next year," he said in a statement. Patrick Geqeza, a shop steward at the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg, said he understood the importance of having the World Cup in South Africa and completing the stadiums in time. "We feel bad about going on strike," he said, but added there was little alternative
  21. Its misspeaking. Who was rendered speechless? I'm beginning to see a double standard here. i "misspoke", but fixed it before you posted did you see the palin/couriq interview? it would've been better had she been rendered speechless. instead she was rendered stupid. there's no double standard. if a candidate gives an intelligent answer, but misspeaks, i can live with that. bush was known for that, and while i'm not going to lie and say i never made fun of him, i never held it against him when i judged his intelligence. palin looked like a deer in headlights. not only did she "misspeak", she CLEARLY had no clue what she was talking about in several KEY areas. considering she was trying to become our vice president, i had a serious problem with that. so, to paraphrase: candidate who knows his/her stuff but speaks poorly = OK. candidate who can motivate crowd/arouse older men but doesn't know what the heck is going on in the world = no bueno.
  22. Candidates misspeak all the time. i can live with that. it's when they're rendered speechless by a question they should have an intelligent answer to that i start to worry.
  23. I'm actually a fat phat guy Im so white LMAO so true... if gabe were any whiter, he'd be clear.
  24. Maybe he is or maybe he isn't. He is almost certainly more educated if that matters. Here are some questions. Does intelligence make a person right in political decisions? If a test is given and it is discovered that I have a higher IQ than others on this board, does that invalidate their political arguments? Should the presidency be determined by IQ if it really matters? If so, let's just give a test and pick the smartest man/woman. Does education really matter? My brother has 4 college degrees, 2 bachelors and 2 masters. He is working on his 3rd masters. I would venture to guess that he is way more educated and probably has a lot higher IQ than Palin, Obama, McCain or Biden. I wonder if my brother should be the next President of the United States. does he share your politcal views??? ;D
