2.
Silsbee posters hove moved on to next year while this thread is still growing.  Let it go, great run, but you fell short.
that's incorrect.  the only reason the silsbee/la vega thread isn't getting anymore talk is because it was locked 3 days ago...
It's my understanding he will not be 19 before Sept. 1st.
If Elam is eligible, Silsbee is in good shape for next year!
True! And I think they will beat HJ twice in their district meetings. ;)
No doubt.  By at least [s]20 [/s] 30 in both games
4.

HJ will be fine. HJ doesn't rebuild, they RE-LOAD!!  ;D
RE-LOAD? No, I think you have that word all wrong...its RE-CRUIT! ;D Sorry, couldn't resist!! That's what SE Texans believe when it comes to good basketball programs anyway....especially ones in HOUSTON!  8)
especially when you have a whole bunch of basketball teams in a small geographical area, and most of them suck, but one is unbeatable, and all of the good players from those other schools (plus some from other states) magically end up playing for the one good team.
 5. i wasn't super impressed with them, to be honest.  they should've lost twice in the regional tourney.  but who knows.  they picked up wins over two of the best in 3A, and their record speaks for itself.
 6. it's a softer game than it used to be, too.  just watch old highlights from the EPL from maybe 15-20 years ago.  challenges that weren't even called back then are now yellows and reds.  the rules are a lot stricter to try and keep players safer.
 7. they should move it to the montagne center so i could conveniently attend...
 8. i heard HJ played Liberty, and beat them 4-0.  that might be wrong, though.  i know the boys played liberty.
 9. yeah, heard HJ surrendered 3 goals in the final 5 minutes of the second OT.  crazy finish.
 10.

The matchups will not be determined until Sunday morning...I doubt they will seed Yates and Kimball in the semi....they will likely be seeded 1 and 2 and meet in the final.
Yates and Kimball could play in a semifinal. The top two seeds are determined by win %. Those two are San Antonio Alamo Heights at 33-2 and Yates at 32-5. Kimball is 31-5 while Denton Ryan is 23-11. Depending on the coin flip, Yates and Kimball could square off in a semifinal game. I am hoping they do not and meet in the finals.
i figured yates was guaranteed the #1 seed, because they're, um, yates.
 11. dang, that sucks.  just got home, saw the halftime score earlier, thought Silsbee was gonna win it.
 12. how many times has it cost over the last couple of seasons?  it almost cost him last night over a much inferior team.
 13.
having watched both games last night, LaVega is a slightly better version of Athens.  Quick, athletic, a little bigger.  If Silsbee plays like they did most of the game last night, i think they're going home, as they should've lost to Athens.  But if the Silsbee team that showed up in that second OT shows up, they've got the ability to kill La Vega with that press and win this one.  HJ and Silsbee have shown they're pretty equal this year, and HJ played one of their worst games of the season (i'll give WLV a little credit for that, but not a lot), and still should've won.  Silsbee can certainly beat them.  I'll be rooting for Silsbee to represent us in state.  QUOTED FROM BULLETS13 Really, Bullets? So let me get this right.... HJ has a bad game, and you give Waco LaVega a "little" cred, but Yates has a bad game and it was all Kingwood Park? Interesting..... 8)
Yates is the best team in the world.  duh.  and i haven't said anything about KWP doing anything.
 14. i know that yates has lost some games in the past few years because of this "if it ain't broke" attitude.  seems to me that a "great coach" that "knows better" isn't willing to change, maybe he doesn't really know better.  he kinda reminds me of Calipari at Kentucky.  Great recruiter, but maybe not the best coach... ;)

 16.
Actually my dad SAID this would happen! He HATES the way Yates plays! They play at ONE speed, no matter what, and he said it will bite them in the butt whenever a team could break their press and dictate the tempo...and I AGREE...However, it wasn't the KP DEFENSE that did anything, it was their SCHEME...They sat in a sagging soft man, in which they were willing to give up the three ball, but make penetration tough...USUALLY Yates shoots a better percentage from three because of the pace....KP did an excellent job of defending the paint and keeping Yates out of rhythm. Offensively. they were able to use the entire floor which made it difficult for them to be trapped....very smart move, because it gave them TONS of open looks, because Yates kept doing what they do, and KP shot a good percentage from three...Excellent effort by KP...Once again they just didn't have the bodies to finish the job. The old man (my dad) called it.... 8)
when a great coach criticizes the scheme of a team that you also says has a great coach, and that scheme almost causes them to lose to a much inferior team, does that mean that the second coach who doesn't know any other schemes might not be so great?
 17. he was certainly assessed the foul.  La Vega dunked pregame as well, but i guess they got it in before the refs came out.
 18.
HJ appeared to be the better side.  Several players struggled for long stretches of the game.  Played really well in a few spurts.  Seemed like that gave this one away to me.
absolutely.  i didn't see anything tonight that led me to believe that WLV would win the majority of the matchups if they played 10 times.  i thought HJ was the better team, although neither team was great tonight.
 19.
Dang that is bad news for ozen considering they just lost their best player for years to come. Want be anyone close to green next 4 or 5 years
i'll be curious to see what the hunter boys have to say about that in the next couple of seasons.
 20. i agree that HJ had a chance to win it, refs or no refs.  there was just a span there that got my blood going when Shawn was pushed out of bounds, no call, and then right after that la vega got a go ahead layup with that 300 lb center holding/shielding Joe where he couldn't get to the ball handler, about 6 inches in front of the official.  it wasn't that there were a ton of bad calls, but the timing of them was horrendous.
 21. Nash, i wanted to get your opinion on the officiating tonight.  not to make excuses, but just to see if i was just being biased, or if you noticed some inconsistency as well?
 22.

Good Season HJ. You represented 21-3A well. Made us proud. Lets get the state Championship next year.
not in 3-A ;)
. For sure.  Yates documented ther invincibility tonite
5A is breathing a sigh of relief that they didn't get a special exemption to move up.
 23. This was a tough loss to stomach.  La Vega was not better than the Hawks tonight.  I would've felt better about this game if they had come out and beat the hawks by 15-20, and i could sit back and say "man, that's a good team, they'll probably win state".  that wasn't the case tonight.  HJ didn't play that well, was the victim of a few questionable calls, but were still in a position to win.  with a 1 point lead and 35 seconds left, HJ got a steal and had a chance to go to the line to end it, and ended the game with a couple of turnovers that turned a 1-point lead into a 3-point deficit.  then Johnson's three rattled out that would've tied it.  this one hurt.  I honestly think HJ was the better team, as they really didn't play that good of a game, and still should've won.  what's worse is between what silsbee has coming back, losing Prudhomme, and the houston schools dropping down to 3A, this was probably HJ's last chance to go to state for awhile, and had they made it through this region, there wasn't a team they were going to face that was any better than the teams they'd faced in regionals.  all of that whining being done, great season to the hawks.  39-2 is a fantastic year by any stretch of the imagination.  Good luck to the seniors in the future, and i look forward to seeing another very solid HJ team next season.
