have you checked their guns to make sure they're on? that's a lot of missing!
yeah, but i hate to unleash a rifle in a spot where deer and hogs come through :) sounds like there are no deer or hogs coming through, probably should have shot the rabbit. ;D
what's weird is that while most reports i'm hearing are that it's been a bad year for hunting across the state, we've had a much better year this year than last year. we've seen a lot more bucks than usual (1 3-point shot in the last 2 seasons), and have taken 3 (4 people hunting), as well as 5 hogs.

Woodville has beaten Sabine Pass, Kirbyville, and Leggett. Seems a little off to me that they haven't even gotten a vote up to this point. Oh well. They play Colmesneil on Thursday in their tourney. Guess we will have to beat them too. The same Colmesneil team that lost to GSF? Come on now.
Woodville does not play Colmesneil this Thursday in the Colmesneil tourney. The Colmesneil tourney was two weeks ago. Woodville's schedule this week is Tuesday at Kountze, Friday home against Newton.
so you're saying no votes again next week? ;)

went out this morning, thought they might be moving with the storms coming in, but we didn't see anything except a spike in the dark driving to the lease.

Dick Dowlen Park has been producing tons of flounder.

They did not re-sign Mike Napoli or Josh Hamilton, and they traded Michael Young. This team is going to look a lot different next season. That being said, Napoli had half the season he'd had the year before (but still put up decent production from the catcher spot), Michael Young had one of the worst WAR (wins above replacement) in the league, and his worst statistical season since his rookie year, and Hamilton had a great start, but was a non-factor at the end of the season, missing games for various cockamamie reasons and having a relapse early in the season on his drug use. I really don't mind all of these things. Jurickson Profar needs an everyday spot, and Murphy needs one in the outfield. The Rangers also signed Joakim Soria in free agency, which could be a HUGE addition for their bullpen. Your thoughts?

I do see Bullet's point, though.
I don't see the point. Have yall really looked at HJ's schedule??? ::)
I didn't say I agree. I say I see his point. If I agreed, I would have picked the Hawks over the Jags.
So, you (also) are agreeing HJ has played a a weak schedule ;D
Nothing weak about 5-a Longview- compare favorably with Central
one game ::)
one game... that's all HJ has lost this year. They've beaten 4A nederland (by a lot), state-ranked 2A Kountze (by a lot), 5A Longview (by a lot), 4A Calallen, 4A Beeville, 4A Port Lavaca, 4A Bastrop, 4A LCM, 4A Barbers Hill, etc. etc. and none of those games have been closer than 10 points. when a 3A school plays more than half of their pre-district games against teams from higher classifications, i don't see how that's a weak schedule. and when they dominate that schedule, i'm going to give them credit for it, even if they did have one bad loss. -

Congrats to the young guns at Central for holding on to that # 1 spot for the second consecutive week! 8)
Nobody is a bigger HJ supporter than me, but it is very hard for me to understand how HJ could be tied with Central for the #1 local spot only a couple of weeks after Central manhandled the Hawks. That top spot ought to be the exclusive property of Central at this point in time.
it's one of those things... what's more impressive, Central's 8-4, or HJ's 16-1 and 14 game winning streak? (at the time of voting). I'd say both are impressive. but i tend to factor in the fact that 3A is grouped with 4A and 5A on this poll. so i'm not going to subtract from HJ based on the fact that they're playing a weaker schedule than Central. Central is 4A, and should be playing 4A and 5A schools. HJ is 3A, but still plays their fair share of opponents in higher classifications. HJ has one blip on the radar, and Central has 4 in half as many games. Yes Central soundly beat HJ a couple of weeks ago... but the game before that, WB beat Central. Should WB be #1 then? but wait, then Nederland beat WB. So should Nederland be #1? Oh, but HJ beat Nederland early on in the year... I guess the point being that this many games into the season, i can't keep using HJ's 3rd game of the season (Central's 4th) as the primary factor in my rankings. It's a judgement call. -

i'm not a lamar fan... but i remember last year when everyone was worried that Knight would get hired on to another school... is anyone still worried? would anyone even care? this team is abysmal. -

I shot a doe last year broadside double lunged and left an exit wound the size of my fist. But this year I lungshot a hog (a little too far for me to feel comfortable headshooting) and didn't get an exit wound. Then the big bodied buck I shot last week was quartering towards me. I took out the front lung and into the guts (either that or let him walk, and I knew I'd get the lung). He dropped, kicked for a few seconds, then stood back up and walked down the road and around a corner. I shoot a TC encore single shot 25-06, and he only had to walk about 10 yards to make the corner, so I couldn't put another shot in him. I got down after a few minutes and found good dark blood, a little frothy, and knew I'd gotten lung, but just a few drops here, a few there. Waited for my dad to come from across the lease, and we started trailing. Followed blood for 35-40 yards, and the trail just stopped, but we heard him try to get up and then fall down and start kicking, so we left him, went back to the cabin, and let him die. Went back an hour later, went in the woods where we had heard him, found him after a couple of minutes. But he went 50 yards, and only bled for 30. No exit wound, and then entry had plugged with a piece of fat. Our lease is all shooting lanes surrounded by thick brush because the trees burned last year, and tracking a weak blood trail is extremely difficult. I want an exit wound on the occasion that I have to shoot at an angle that takes a longer path thru the body when the angle necessitates it. I just wanted to hear some other hunters' thoughts. Sorry for the novel :)

losing by 40 every game is pretty bad. -
I don't like using live bait, but you can ask TVC... if they won't take an artificial, i'll dang sure throw a live shrimp or mullet at them if we can catch some. we fish together a decent amount during the summer, and while we never go straight to catch live bait, if our arties aren't working, we'll go to what is.
