1. i wanna see some other people put some pictures up!
 2.
Dang!  How many times are we going to have to look at that little 2 year old cull?                              ;D
ive been hunting 3 1/2 years, and this is my first buck.  Can't really blame me for being excited :).  I have a couple of other pics of him I can post if you want ;)
 3. figure i might as well post another one, might be awhile before i get another chance :)

 5. TVC, he scored out unofficially at 130 1/8, according to the taxidermist.  I think symmetry oughta be worth a little extra credit though :)
About 140"?
didn't fool with all that last night.  i would expect he's a 130"=140" deer.  what i've seen says that width isn't as important as height and number of tines, and he's got plenty of both!
Let's say you have a 120" scored deer that has a 15" spread. If you increase that spread to a very impressive 20", you only made your score 125". The 20" rack looks more impressive (maybe way more impressive) but the actual score doesn't change much or from a 120-125". Tine length and number and mass is what really adds the score up.
well, he's got plenty of all three of those!  The taxidermist said he figured it was between 130-140.  Said he'd let me know at some point.  He said he knew for sure it was big enough for the Texas Big Game Awards.  I thought that was pretty cool.  I went and looked at them from last year, and there was only 1 that qualified from the county i hunt in.
 7. usedtobe, i'm with you on that one.  as far as East Texas deer go, that's going to be dang tough to beat outside of a high fence ranch.  i was shocked when we started getting pictures of this guy, and was pretty sure i heard the neighbors shoot him Monday night.  Couldn't believe it when he walked out yesterday evening.  The good news... he's got a brother!  we have a couple of pics of an 8-point with almost the exact same structure... not real wide, but very tall, very symmetrical, and mainbeams that curve around to where they almost touch.

 10. [img][Hidden Content]] [img][Hidden Content]] I got the one i was after!  What was surprising was we had gotten a bunch of pictures on one stand, and i shot him all the way across the property (425 acres) when i was down in a bottom hunting for hogs.  This is my first buck... might be hard to top for awhile.
 11. Saw FOUR bucks today between 645 and 815.  One huge four point that will be a beast in a couple of years, two borderline bucks that I passé on, and one solid 8 point, but the only shot I had was to butt shoot him, which I wasn't about to do with a ballistic tip.
 12. i guess so, but there's a strong possibility that they are only the 3rd best team in their district.

So if San Augustine makes a run does it mean they fall out of the rankings?  How does this work?
Makes a run at what? Not sure I understand what you are asking.
football maybe?  like if they suck at the beginning of the year with a bunch of starters out?  who knows?
 14. ignore the date on those pics, it isn't set.  those are from last week and then last night.
 15. [img][Hidden Content]] [img][Hidden Content]] i found the one i want, but i'll shoot a different one if it's dumb enough to walk out in front of me.
 16. We have pictures of at least 15 bucks right now, 4-5 shooters, and one monster 10-point.  And I'm off all week to hunt!
 17. I get so tired of these rebuilding years...
 18. HJ 84 Kountze 72 Kountze will be a powerhouse this year, but i think the HJ press causes serious problems for Kountze's young starters.
 19. and if it doesn't have to be saltwater, you can always chunk pieces of liver on treble hooks out into the canals around here and have a decent chance of catching a few channel or blue cats.
 20.

Im new to the duck business. Went this past weekend and killed a few. Anybody have any good methods on ways to prepare/cook duck, and how to get the gamey taste out?
Soak the duck breat in milk overnight.  Then, wrap in bacon with a slice of jalepeno.  Place on an oak plank and put in oven for about an hour.  Take it out, throw away the duck and eat the plank.      ;)
heard a similar recipe for gasper goo :)
 21.
A basket rack 8 point is not B&C.  ;D
He swears up and down it was at least a 20 inch spread, tall, and heavy.
 22. My dad got busted by a buck he swears was close to a B&C today..  I've hunted with him four years now, and he doesn't normally exaggerate.  We hunt in east Texas, so it's not some high fence ranch where they breed em big.  Wish he would've gotten a shot, but we had high winds today and it came out in just the right spot to smell him
 23.

Anyone notice how the 1st weekend of gun season was warm and muggy? Forecast for this weekend is the same. That figures doesn't it. Nice cool mornings duringthe weekwhenI canthunt then by the weekend it warms up! We need to break that cycle!!!
Would rather be hot than cold typically! But last weekend was miserably hot in the long sleeves and pants hunting
i hunted in short sleeves, shorts and tennis shoes :)
