  1. Just got off the phone with coach, he said he will get the call at 8:30 in the morning on who his opponent will be. The bus ride home is quiet as the kids are exhausted from the past two games. It has been 25 years since Silsbee last went to Austin.
  2. Let's try to stick to the topic and end the name calling.
  3. What else would they do with the facility with no hockey or other team? They already are discussing tearing down the amphitheater, which is idiotic. The county may be still upset with the whole Ford Park fiasco, but it is there and has to be paid for. The area has to support whatever team plays there.
  4. This past weekend was my first game. It was better than I expected and was actually planning on going again. I guess I jinxed it. :-\
  5. Last night was the 1st time I have ever been to a hockey game. We were in the 2nd row by the glass. My wife definitely enjoyed the smacking of the glass. My cousin had a puck land in his lap.
  6. I always read the DL board but never post. I guess that is why I got an email from them threatening to suspend my account.
  7. Ok now which one is it?
  8. This is true. There is a very good reason why Coach Brooks ( assistant ) has been doing alot of the " coaching " during games of late and not Travis. I too will not post the reason here on this messageboard, but rest assure, Travis Williams is the head coach. I spoke with him today and he is looking forward to tonight.
  9. No HS coach in this area has the ability to get the program started. This can't be just a local thing. While it will be great to grab some local talent it has to be able to get those special players located in the Houstons and DFWs as well. HS coaches unless it is a Todd Dodge are only viewed great by their local/communities. No disrespect to any local coaches but no recruit in DFW has ever heard of say a Coach Barber, but if you want to talk Jasper and Newton counties then it is a different story.
  10. Honestly, I don't see a problem with the scoreboard. I have not been there in a while so I can't comment on the sound system and accoustics.
  11. Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer is helping in the search. Heard that as well. I can't see some of the big name donors wanting to just pour millions into something that doesn't create any buzz.
  12. If they can get a "name" (retread, past prime)to help get this program started I'll say $450k. The splash of a "name" would be all over the sports news sites. Recruits are attracted to names. I believe Tubbs has some good connections willing to help out for a year or two probably better than a South Alabama.
  13. Hopefully we'll see round 4 in a couple weeks.
  14. For all intents and purposes Kountze did win the district in regards to getting the 1st seed.
  15. Seen the principal today and this is not true.
  16. Exactly. Amazing how some folks instantly jump to one side of the fence without hearing the entire situation. Calling for someone to lose their job based on a message board post is crazy. With a big problem the UIL and can discipline a school.
  17. Pretty easy.....they have talked. Reread the two words in the parentheses. This was first hand info to me so take it for what its worth.
  18. Silsbee will play HJ at the Montagne in the feature game next week. Todd and Travis have already agreed.
  19. I believe the Davis game will be at the newly renovated Delmar stadium. I have been there for a few swap meets.
  20. No high school guy needs to even be considered. This has got to be a splash. Getting a "name" is a must. Forget focusing on just the local and look at the big picture. Sure whoever gets it needs to add local flavor but they have to be able to pull from the talent rich areas of Houston and Dallas as well.
  21. I heard the money is in the low to mid 20 range. The majority here should know who some of the big donors are. I have a few contacts who have pledged some $$$$.
  22. Gut says it failed. If it does in fact fail I can honestly say the University didn't push hard enough for it. We have been speculating here for months if not years and until just the past 6 weeks or so has the University officially really said anything about it. Where would LU go from here? The old mindset of basketball is "king" and we don't need football has been an abysmal failure. It has taken LU 20 years to semi recover. Without the added programs LU will not grow much larger than it is now nor will community support grow. I'm an alumni and honestly this football thing is about the only thing LU has to even peak my interest in supporting. Here's to hoping my gut is wrong.
  23. NA$CAR will give Toyota some success this season. If nothing else they will make rule changes especially for them. NASCAR has catered to whoever is dumping the most money into their coffers for years. They have been loyal GM backers, but GM is having to pull back some money. Dodge was coming on strong 4-5 years ago then all of a sudden NASCAR demanded they change their engine layout due to the big chevy owners (Hendricks, Gibbs, etc)complaining. Much like the late 60s and early 70s when Mopar dominated with hemis etc NASCAR deemed them too powerful and mandated they change. Anyone notice Dodge was dominant in the Craftsman truck series until they were forced to change......Dodge then basically quit their factory sponsorship.
  24. Obviously you misread my post if you take what I said as insulting Lumberton. Lumberton as well as the other two schools I mentioned have been viewed as inferior for years. Lumberton has taken lumps for years but as soon as it looked like they were going to make the playoffs the school pride swelled as did the community support. That is what makes going to the playoffs does. To answer the question, yes, making the playoffs regardless of record sets most smaller communities abuzz. I will say it is sad however to see the big 5a schools, some here as well, not even go to their games. In regards to more schools making it I understand the nonsense with a 5 team district, but with an 8 team powerhouse of a district it isn't fair either. Like I stated if it is watered down then the "cookie can crumble" in a week.
  25. The term "scrub" is relative. Judson proved if anything how unequal districts are. Look no further than the local 3A district, the 4th and 5th place teams would have won the neighboring district's championship. You'll never make everyone happy, but at least those in a strong district get a chance to "stretch their legs" outside of their district so to speak. What difference does it really matter when after week one it should be apparent who should be in the playoffs and who shouldn't? The system quickly corrects itself and allows programs to taste a little success. The schools with perennial success probably really do not see the point and feel it waters down everything but to a program that rarely if ever gets the opportunity it is a tremendous feat for their program. If a Vidor or Kountze were to make the playoffs it instantly boosts the program and community, look no further than what it did in Lumberton.
