  1. The spread is a "sexy" offense IF you have the athletes. Offenses can put up gaudy stats and look unstoppable until that other team has speed as well. Easiest way to stop the spread is keep the opposing team off of the field. It is hard to beat an "I" formation and just ram it down the opposing team's throat. You may not get the big score or the long plays but if your guys can block it is a steady 5 yards a pop. Going into the 4 th quarter defenses are beat. I always remembered PNG doing the "I" well. Less talented teams can stay in games longer if they utilize a well coached/disciplined "I". I believe a certain team last year would have prefered a couple "I" formations rather than the spread when they were within the 10 yard line.
  2. Wow. I knew he was playing well but didn't realize his passing was quite that good. Not bad for a little old sophomore scrub at qb.
  3. Should be a close game. If PNG watched the game film all they have to do is run down the middle. By the time the rb is touched he should have 5 yards. PNG will have their hands full with the young backs Silsbee has. If they can hold onto the ball they are tough to get down.
  4. Well what can you say for someone who doesn't remember the history between Lincoln and Silsbee. I remember the packed gyms for district championships, the perennial state rankings,an unheard of undefeated regular season, numerous playoff and state tourney trip, and legendary coaches. I guess since Silsbee doesn't have a so-called basketball tradition those never happened. It is sad to see some of this nonsense about HJ. They have obviously been successful and Todd is a good coach and has earned everything he has gotten, but contrary to the '91 HJ basketball clique there is more to this area than just HJ.
  5. I guess that each district committee should go down to the local trophy shop and get each team a little trophy for being "good sports" at the end of each season. Hey it worked in little league, maybe we can get an ice cream at the Dairy Queen after the game as well.
  6. Yes, but his dad was a trackstar in the late 80s when Silsbee won state in track.
  7. I agree. It is just an attempt to have the weaker schools feel good because they "made" the playoffs. Kirbyville is one of the smallest 3A schools and is on the verge of being in the top 10. How can this be since obviously they are just too small to even compete? HF was dominant in the early 90s. Orangefield had a run. Hj has been to the playoffs recently. BC has been there. The potential is there. If schools really want to compete, get those kids out there and have them buy into your program.
  8. In the end however they are not really used as performance enhancers like say for a footballer, baseballer, or cyclist. We all know, or I hope know, wrestling is staged and is just one big show. These guys are supposed to look bigger than life. I remember seeing Atlas and Ivan Putski as a kid and they were huge compared to most guys in the Southwest Championship wrestling. Honestly who wants to see a "normal" guy in tights plat falling in a ring? I'm definitely not a proponent of steroids but it is ridiculous to lump wrestling (sports entertainment as they call themselves) with the "real" sports. One thing that is really scary is these guys were getting these steroids/growth hormones legally with prescriptions from professional physicians and pharmacists. By getting them "legally" how is it their medical records are basically becoming available to the public? There are laws that are supposed to protect individual's rights to privacy. Anyone ever heard of HIPA Health Information Protection Act? These "athletes" should not be the targets especially since they are not breaking the law.....the physicians who prescribe them should be the ones under investigation and facing the penalties.
  9. That's pretty small considering Kountze has right at 400. Maybe Kountze is indeed turning a corner, but it will take some wins against more comparative schools to really solidify the argument.
  10. Not knocking the kid in the least, but we're talking UNT not a OU,UT,or A&M. The comment was made during the game that they had 5 tight ends on scholarship versus 3 wrs. Dodge wants to run a more pass happy spread type offense. Obviously he has a lot of work on the recruiting trail to get the players he needs.
  11. If Silsbee gets past the turnover bug they will win. The Tigers will be a fun group to watch grow this year. They could go 0-3 just as easy as 3-0 as they get accustomed to their positions.
  12. **Big School Game Of The Week** Dayton at West Orange-Stark **Small School Game Of The Week** Vinton, LA at Deweyville Beaumont West Brook at Beaumont Ozen Nederland vs Brenham at Reliant Stadium Port Neches-Groves vs La Marque at Reliant Stadium Huffman at Houston Scarborough Baytown Lee at Beaumont Central Conroe Caney Creek at Little Cypress-Mauriceville Livingston at Jasper Liberty at Bridge City Buna at Orangefield Anahuac at Hardin-Jefferson Kirbyville at Cleveland Splendora at Hamshire-Fannett Woodville at Coldspring Tarkington at Hardin Shepherd at East Chambers Warren at Huntington Houston Kinkaid at Kelly Groveton at West Hardin Tenaha at Kountze Evadale at Colmesneil Hull-Daisetta at Westbury Christian Sabine Pass at Legacy Christian Galveston O'Connell at High Island Barbers Hill vs Wharton at Pearland (Sat.)
  13. ST you are the kirbyvilleballa of the basketball board. Give it a rest with the nonsense. Both squads will make the playoffs. Let's get the football season over with before this really gets going. I know Travis just wants the football team to do well.
  14. I read he was either 68-69 years old. I never knew he was that old. So when I first seen him he was already closing on 50.
  15. Sad thing is kids such as the shooter just do not think that there will be consequences. They think they can just go about their business like noone is going to do anything to them.
  16. The best coaches are always the ones sitting in the stands on Friday night.
  17. Let me clarify my comments. I have no problem with students/players coming from Houston, Dallas, etc. I just feel LU definitely will need some local flair. If LU ever brings back football the fans have to realize they never will be a major force like the big name schools. You look at schools such as the University of Houston and SMU and have to realize they are not viewed as powerhouse schools and they have the facilties and monies that LU can never reach/touch. LU has to compete at a McNeese, SHSU, SFA type level. If you look at those schools you definitely see local players. Whereas they may not be playing on New Year's Day they are still successful.
  18. Whereas that is true, Lamar has a habit of going overseas etc to get kids in other sports. My intention is not on disrespecting those students but the community at least needs to know or have possibly heard of some players. Lamar promotes itself as "our" community university so they have to show it.
  19. Whereas Dayton and WOS will be a good game the hype will be about game 1 of the Beaumont Bowl.
  20. My main concern is the o-line play. Jeremy should do well when he settles a bit more. These young kids could be special.
  21. So is this AEP assignment a carry over from the end of the school year (May)or missing the end of last fb season (November '06)? If he still needs to finish from this previous year I would be surprised he is even allowed on the field until after his assignment.
  22. I was told #26 is Chris Barnes a soph. I was extremely impressed with is play. He was solid on both sides of the ball.
