  1. Yeah, Silsbee can't be considered a Cinderella when they are expected to be there. I just hope they can live up to the hype.
  2. I would prefer another season of Playmakers. That was an awesome show ESPN had until the NFL pressured them to end it.
  3. There are some teams out there that you know what they are going to run before the ball is even snapped. What are some predictable teams you have seen? I remember watching Newton a few years back. They were very basic, when the fullback lined left the tb/qb was going left. When the fb lined right the tb/qb was going right. It was so basic yet unstoppable. It was a stop it if you can type mentality. It works because they have the athletes. I also find Lumberton pretty predictable. Certain receivers move and the pass is headed that way. The most unpredictable team I have seen however is Kirbyville. Alvarez has more trick plays than anyone I have ever seen. They blow a lot of folks out who get caught up in the trickery. The best trick play I remember was in '88 when WOS played Tomball (Tomball beat Silsbee the week before thus no WOS/Silsbee matchup  ) in the quarters. They go to the line with 10 men on the field. Then the "extra" 11th man comes jogging over to the qb who was on the left side 10 yards away from the line to "get the play". As the qb appears to be telling the play the ball was hiked to the rb catching the whole defense off guard. They were watching the qb "tell the play."
  4. Usually only thing I get in Jasper is the $2 hot chocolate. Best $2 you ever spent when freezing to death. When I was in Kountze the FFA always had the pit going. I really can't comment on the food, but the smoke kept them 'skeeters down on the field.
  5. But there is nothing better than the feeling of seeing the monsters versus your smaller team and your team getting the win. Sometimes in pregame warmups I would just sit in awe at the size of some teams and their players, but only 11 of them are out there at a time.
  6. lol I had to duck down a few times to see the play at the other end of the field due to the limbs. If it rained however, it would drip for the entire game.
  7. I remember seeing them play us in Silsbee and their linemen wer so big they were literally touching at the hips when the got into their stance. I do not think anyone was under 300lbs. WR/DBs were tall and fast.
  8. Livingston stands are kind of cool. You have trees directly over the visitor side. Always good if you play them early in the season when it is hot. What is crazy is looking down and realizing you are over their neighbor's property.
  9. Even though I feel the midcounty teams get too much media attention I do like Neuman at Nederland. His teams do not have the talent a lot of other teams have but mistakes are kept to a minimum and that is the key to winning. I remember just before the PA schools merged Lincoln had tremendous talent, size, and speed but they lacked the discipline needed in the game. Offsides and just minor penalties killed tem. If those kids were more solid in the fundamentals they would have been awesome.
  10. HJ has a very small visitor side, Buna is small, Ozen (cardinal stadium) have to pull fiberglass splinters out, Vidor has poor parking, and Kountze must have candles on their lighting poles. Always enjoy going to Jasper. Usually it is week 10 and has something on the line. They do have power outages though.
  11. Homer game, but the '93 Nederland/Silsbee game was epic in the stat sense. It was back and forth until the final buzzer. Silsbee's Jay McGuire had 424 yards rushing and 6-7 tds along with several long kickoff returns. I have never seen a performance like it before.
  12. Jasper is better than many realize. I would expect a close game. That Finley kid is gone from Diboll. I am going with Jasper by 6.
  13. I missed the news but I take it they had a player on it. I do not ever recall a player picking his coach. That right there shows what the problem is, the kids think they call the shots. You want a successful program you have to kick those noncommitted nonconforming kids no matter how talented, off the team. Discipline, discipline, discipline.
  14. PA has always had athletes. I never understood why the Lincolns and TJs could not go further. IMO they have lacked discipline. Discipline in the coaching as well as discipline in fundamentals. I remember a few years back when Lincoln played Silsbee in the playoffs. Lincoln had massive sized lineman and tall fast skill players, but they won but they did not play sound fundamental football. Talent will win you games, but when you face teams with the same talent you have to play smart football in order to win. PA has to have someone in place long enough to implement the program from the ground up. If you want long term success, you have to ingrain it into the kids and community. Nederland is viewed by most as being very successful, but a look back at history will show how pathetic they were back before August/Newman. Nederland was somewhat of a doormat. No doubt Newman is a good coach, but he had time to implement his program and obviously it is successful. Probably the key ingredient is, expectation. You have to expectations. You look at the PNGs,Jaspers,WOSs, Kountze(bball).....not only do coaches have the expectations the kids and communities do as well.
  15. I never heard this. McGallion told me it would never happen in his lifetime. I do think they should have put a nicer scoreboard on the highway end of the field. A scrolling scoreboard would have been great for advertising income.
  16. While I will agree Jasper and WOS have been more consistent I find it funny after 1 season how BC is a "powerhouse". They beat Jasper this past season and? Kirbyville did in 04 and all we heard for a year was how K'ville dominated Jasper. Over the past 20 years WOS,Jasper, and Silsbee have been all over BC. The last time Silsbee played BC, BC was beat 35-13. I won't say Silsbee will win district, but they have a very solid team returning. Go ahead and look past them.
  17. When I asked Bobby about the possibility of some turf his response was not in his lifetime. Who is this businessman? Drew? Walter?
  18. Funny I don't remember Dayton whining when they were in Silsbee and Jasper's district a few years back. How about when poor Jasper was in with us and NEW CANEY.
