Let's make one thing clear, McClure is the best basketball player in Lumberton history. That's really not up for debate. His coach, Josh Mitchell, was a very good player for Lumberton. He is on board with that sentiment. I have seen enough Lumberton basketball over the years (since 1980) and I would have to agree. Now if you want to debate whether he is better than some other players from other schools, then carry on. Also, he signed a DI scholly, so debating whether he is a DI basketball player is kind of a moot point.

Just not as young. Lumberton starts 2 seniors (Noel, McClure), 2 juniors (Harmon, Hattaway) and a soph. (Fuselier). Two soph. (Koch and Millican) and a junior (Landry) are regulars off the bench.
-
Silsbee is very young. Only two seniors get significant playing time with Gilder being a very important player that Silsbee will lose for next season.
-
One of those seniors (Baltrip) was his first start. Gilder, the other senior, has started all season since football was over. Of the 78 points scored by Silsbee last night, all but 24 was scored by soph. and fresh. (24 from a senior Gilder, 34 from fresh., 20 from soph.) Gilder and Baltrip were the only seniors to play last night. The bulk of the total minutes played were by fresh. and soph.

What?? I thought Livingston was a top 1-3 team in that district. Where is our resident Lion fan to explain? -

This!! I will tell you a little story about that Silsbee style of play. Several years ago I went up to Sherman Texas to broadcast Silsbee in the Sherman tourney. The very first game Silsbee played was a school out of San Antonio. Silsbee played their patent man to man in your face pressure defense. Silsbee won the game by 35. After the game I was packing up my equipment and these two elderly men approached me and asked if I was with the Silsbee team and I said yes. They both looked at me and said that they don't see that type of basketball up there and asked if that's what Silsbee does all the time. I said those kids play that style from the day they start playing the game in our Little Dribblers program. It's what they know. Those two just shook their head. Silsbee blew thru that tourney with ease and those two men became big fans during that tourney. They came and spoke to me after every game. It was also pretty obvious that the teams in that tourney were not used to that style because it showed. I think the closest game Silsbee had was in the championship game against host Sherman (who had the easy side of the bracket). Silsbee won by 24.
