  1. Region III Class 3A top 5: 1. Silsbee 2. Cleveland 3. LaVega 4. Crockett 5. Hardin-Jefferson
  2. In an upset: Lumberton 23 Hamshire-Fannett 20 Let the games begin!!!!
  3. Brey coming back does make quite a bit of difference. He will help keep Roman outside. But if he comes with that attitude that he has displayed recently, then it might be detrimental to the Kountze cause. Even so, having Brey back would change alot of things as far as Kountze's stature in Region III.
  4. Yes it is Grad. We did do a couple of their games last year after the BISD game of the week didn't work out to well. We have Vidor sponsors on board so that made the decision pretty easy. We still may work out the same deal from last year with Nederland and PNG and put the link to their games here on the site which would give us 7 games total on a Friday night.
  5. Here at SETXsports we will have Silsbee, Vidor, Kirbyville, Newton and Lumberton. KLVI will still have Nederland football and 92.5 FM will still carry PNG. KOGT will do Orange county games (mostly WOS probably).
  6. What??? Jeremy Johnson...not a "big boy"? ;D He could probably lay a block or two and make a tackle if needed. I just hope he won't have too. ;D
  7. Which one was Carrington? When I saw them last year they were mostly all sophmores and one jr...... Carrington was a sophmore also but has moved to Atascasita. He was the other post player, had his hair in braids. He was to be Cleveland's starting quarterback too. Cleveland's coach told me he moved to Atascasita to get more exposure.
  8. If we are just basing this on high school performance, then for Silsbee you would have to start with William Morrisey, Willie Ray Smith award winner and first team all state defensive tackle. He was a man among boys. Also Britt Lively, Ahmad Jones, Daniel Paulus, and Josh Skinner of recent years were some good ones. Going back a few decades you would have to mention Hiawatha Hickman. Even further back in years would be Craig McGallion, Gerald Skinner and Charles Powell.
  9. Stroud only managed an even par round of 70 today to fall back to a tie for 42nd at -4 276. He had 4 birdies along with 4 bogeys.
  10. Final results for our local players at the 39th Texas State Open: Dawie Van der Walt -4 66, -7 273, T10 $2,586 Andrew Landry E 70, -7 273, T10 $2,586 Shawn Stefani E 70, -6 273, T15 $1,720 Stefani had 1 eagle and 20 birdies in this tourney but just couldn't stay away from the big numbers.
  11. Just simply based on last year and what I saw at the Silsbee summer tourney, I think Silsbee has the better team over Cleveland particularly now that Cleveland lost Carrington, but just barely. Even though Cleveland did beat Silsbee in the finals by 2 (Silsbee beat Cleveland earlier that day by 11) I think Silsbee has the better overall squad. It really showed in the second half of the championship game when Silsbee finally decided to start playing. I personally spoke with the Cleveland varsity coach and he told me that was his team for the following season that was on the floor during the tourney. They will be good, but I believe that Silsbee is just as good if not better. Now, does that make either one of these teams the best in Region 3? That remains to be seen. I would classify them as 1a and 1b for now.
  12. It's over. I really, really, really wanted Tom to win. Too bad. Congrats Stewart Cink, 2009 Open Champion!
  13. Watson literally whiffed that putt to win on 18. I got sick. Watson has to at least make birdie on 17, or this is over. Bad tee shot on 17 for Tom! COME ON TOM!!!!!!!!
  14. They should do well. If Roman can stay outside and not have to be moved inside, that will help them tremendously. McDaniel may have to help at the point until the freshman can get the confidence. Kountze's lack of size (Roman being their biggest player) may hurt them. And when I say lack of size, I don't mean just the post players. Kountze has several guards that look no taller than '5'6 and weigh no more than 125lb. They do have alot of quickness.
  15. Sounds like sour grapes to me. You jealous, DV? Jealous? Of WHAT? I just stated the fact that those two losses that you guys are celebrating dont even count....Thats just the truth...sour grapes? makes no sense....Gotta go..On my way to Austin....Talk to you boys on Wednesday... 8) 8) Not if we have anything to say about it.
  16. Sounds like sour grapes to me. You jealous, DV?
  17. Thanks for the props guys. It was a lot of fun covering this tournament. It was exciting to watch this coming seasons players and teams and seeing the pride they had playing these games. When Silsbee played HJ, Ozen and Cleveland, when Ozen played PA, when HJ played Central, when Spurger played Anahuac (I could go on and on here), it didn't seem as though these guys were playing in just some "worthless summer league fundraiser" tourney. Many times it looked as though we were right in the middle of district play and the players and fans reacted accordingly. When the word got out that Silsbee agreed to play HJ in a fill in game for the Hawks (HJ needed an opponent for a pool game when Evadale dropped out ), fans started talking, the excitement started building, and a very nice crowd showed up for that game. It was a mini version of the 21-3A battles these two teams have all the time. You saw a lot of those type games in this tournament. Again, it was a lot of fun and very entertaining. Hardly "worthless". Court side, I was very impressed with your Spurger team. For only having 6 players (5 for a couple of games), your guys played great and very much held their own against these bigger programs. You and your team are to be commended for their skill and effort they showed during this entire tournament. Great job!
  18. AAW, it is important to remember that, as one of "those people down there" ( if you had said that, you would have been accused of being a racist) you lack the sophistication and understanding of basketball which is reserved for the enlightened few and you should not attempt to offer a thought or opinion since it has no value. Thanks for that piece of advice, nash. Next time I'll keep my mouth shut. Oh, and someone needs to tell Marquis Saveat that he shouldn't be participating in these "worthless" tournaments. Did anybody notice that Ozen lost to two 3A schools in this "worthless" tourney?
  19. Chris Stroud sits tied for 30th after the 3rd round, shooting a -2 68 today. He is at -4 206 for the tournament. Chris had 2 birdies and no bogeys in today's round.
  20. After three rounds completed: Andrew Landry shot -7 63, -7 203 T5 8 birdies, 1 bogey Shawn Stefani shot -5 65, -6 204 T8 5 birdies, no bogeys Dawie Van der Walt shot +2 72, -3 207 T21 5 birdies, 5 bogeys, 1 double bogey
  21. winners bracket: Silsbee 45 Cleveland 34 Silsbee to the finals losers bracket: Cleveland 48 Ozen 37 Ozen eliminated, gets 3rd place Championship Game: Cleveland 51 Silsbee 49 Cleveland 1st, Silsbee 2nd Game summary: After sitting for a few hours waiting on the loser bracket to finish, Silsbee came out extremely sluggish. Cleveland jumped out to a 18-4 lead as the Tigers looked like they were still sleeping. Cleveland was able to beat Silsbee down the court on several occasions for some easy buckets. The Tigers made a little bit of a run right before half but still found themselves down 28-14 at haftime. Silsbee's senior '6"7 post Avory Thomas was the only bright spot for the Tigers in the first half, scoring 8 points and collecting 5 boards with 2 block shots. Silsbee came out in the second half pressing and after 8 minutes of play, they had cut the 14 point margin in half. After trading baskets for the next couple of minutes, Silsbee went on a 10-3 run to tie the game at 49. Silsbee sent Cleveland to the line for a one and one with 16 seconds left and Cleveland missed the front end, Silsbee controlled the rebound but an errant pass was picked off by Cleveland and drew the foul going to the basket with 4 seconds left. He made both freethrows giving them the 2 point lead and Silsbee then missed a shot at the buzzer to end the game. Silsbee's slow start coupled with going 7 for 22 from the charity stripe ended their tournament run on a sour note. Silsbee had reeled off 7 victories with no losses coming into this championship game, with one of those victories a 11 point win over Cleveland. Congrats to Cleveland on the championship! Well done. All in all this was a fantastic tournament with alot of quality teams and players being on display. Even though some (one) thinks it was "worthless", you could not tell by how hard the players played and how exciting the games were. Many, many fans enjoyed themselves over the last 3 days. Thank you Travis, Ira, and J.C. for putting on a fine tournament and for allowing me access to the players, coaches, and teams. I had a lot of fun.

  24. I just got in from the tournament and will post all the scores and give a summary of the championship game along with a brief summary of the tourney in a few minutes. Or, I could not waste my time posting since DV says this is a worthless tourney. I'll just call Travis and let him know I won't waste my time helping him out. :
