  1. I don't think it's a question of if fans would travel, but it's a question if school districts could afford all the extra travel. Case in point, Bronco1 has Chester with an enrollment of 60, traveling 120 miles to Sabine Pass, enrollment 100, for just a district game. Ya'll say the fans will not mind but they don't determine the schools budget. Traveling these kind of distances for playoff games is acceptable, but not for district games. Another case is a school out in West Texas who for the last 20 years has decided to stay 5A when their enrollment is actually 3A. They did this based solely on finances because the nearest 3A district to them was 200 miles. They just couldn't afford it. Like I said in my previous post, I am all for getting an even playing field, but I think it will be a logistical and financial nightmare for some schools. You guys are looking at local schools and the prospects of the new districts they would be in, and for the most part, they are fair. But you have to consider statewide, where there are areas that are not as easy to adjust. I commend the UIL for trying to make things more fair, but I also know that the UIL doesn't care too much about a school's finances too.
  2. This new system may make the playing field more even( I'll believe it when I see it ), but it will be a scheduling and traveling nightmare. No one, and I mean no one, wants to travel more than 100 miles to play a district game. This will happen in this system. Some will have to travel 150 miles. 3A, 2A, and 1A school budgets just can't afford that. Making the playoffs is nice, but not all taxpayers want to fit the bill for their school just to make the playoffs.
  3. Silsbee will not miss the playoffs. I don't know if they will be first, second or third, but they will make the playoffs.
  4. Silsbee's bats took last week off, they'll be back after this rest. Tiger's win 8-3
  5. Easy pick for this one. Daniel Paulous of Silsbee. He's '6"4 320lb, getting lot's of looks from Big 12, Sec, and Big 10 schools.
  6. Hey Coop, my wife's picture was in the Beaumont Enterprise. She was high fiving a player after she crossed homeplate. Page 17A in Sunday's paper. Thank you for posting this story.
  7. The thread was asking what returning 3A qb's are going to be good. Thomas is 2A.
  8. The sophmore qb Hazelwood at Kirbyville is pretty good. His first year to start this year, didn't do too bad a job.
  9. My son Reid, who has autism, plays in this league. It is the greatest thing since sliced bread. We gladly drive from Silsbee all the way to Bridge City every Saturday to play little league baseball. My son loves it and we do too. If anyone needs something to do on a Saturday, venture down to Bridge City and check out these very special baseball players. I guarantee you will get a treat in watching these kids play.
  10. I know this may sound blasphemous since I am a Silsbee Tiger, but I'm really hoping Jasper hires a coach that can turn that program around. It's just not right in the football world to have Jasper at the bottom of the pile. Last year's Bulldog team was one of the worst I have ever seen in all my years of watching Tiger-Bulldog games. Silsbee won the game 35-0, but they only played 2 1/2 quarters due to weather. Silsbee could have scored 60 on this team. The Jasper team was very unagressive and was one of the slower Jasper teams I had ever seen. I know Silsbee had a very good team this year, but in that game I was more suprised in Jasper's lack of talent than Silsbee's good play. It was pretty obvious and that is very unusual. After Jasper dropped down to 3A, I would have bet the house that they would not have a year like last year. Let's hope they get the right man for the job, those guys up there deserve it.
  11. What has happened to the WOS baseball program? They really used to have some good teams over there. What's up?
  12. Jasper wins in extra innings 6-5. Home field rears it's head in last inning.
  13. I agree, Silsbee had more talent on the basketball team last year than this year. They got beat by WOS in the third round last year after defeating them twice earlier in the year. This year's Tiger team was less talented but played better as a team. Silsbee does has some very good talent coming up but that does not always guarantee anything special. You still got to play the games.
  14. Three way tie in 3A?? From what I remember, HJ won district with a 13-1 record, Silsbee was second at 12-2, and WOS was third at 10-4. Where's this tie you speak of?
  15. Silsbee's best college prospect for next year will be Daniel Paulous. He's a '6"4 305 pound tackle that is already getting a lot of looks from some Big 12 schools. Donovan Harris will be the Tiger's playmaker along with sophmore qb Johnson and junior rb Castle. Josh James at lb will be the defensive standout.
  16. Hey Coop, lock this thread for lack of intelligence or just simply lack of interest. I am a Silsbee Tiger and even I think this thread is lame.
  17. Well, at least one of your facts is the truth.
  18. Terrance Jones is Silsbee's big man and probably best player. Shannon Robinson along with William Harper are good enough for these teams also. Robinson is a soph while the other two are seniors.
  19. Another joke of a player poll. Not one player on either team from 3A regional finalist Silsbee. Poor basketball knowledge exhibited once again.
