Hey Kerry, why do you think the magazine did a poor job with the rankings? What teams in paticular? What classifications?

The Houston Sterling-Silsbee game is going to be interesting. I say that after what happened last year. The Tigers totally dominated Sterling last year, winning 56-32, but it wasn't even that close. Silsbee was ahead going into the fourth 56-12, gave up 3 tds late with our scrubs in. The very next week, Sterling put a whooping on Beaumont Central, winning something like 50-28, not real sure on the score though. It will be interesting to see what Sterling team shows up.

Not only do I believe that the two best teams in baseball, Jasper and BC, are in this district, but I also believe that the two best teams in basketball came from this district, HJ and Silsbee.

Silsbee is located about 20 miles north of Beaumont. Silsbee's website is the SISD site. Other than that, you can get most of the athletic info right here on this site, including the Tiger's schedule.

I assume you are asking about the most recent years in 4A. The last 6 years that Silsbee was in 4A, the Tigers went to the playoffs 3 times, making it all the way to the regional finals in '98. The other 2 were in '99 and '01. The last 2 years in 4A were not good, going 1-9 and 0-10. Silsbee then dropped to 3A in '04 and has made the playoffs all 3 years. Silsbee made the playoffs another 10 or so times in 4A prior to the years I mentioned.

I think what STiger85 was saying, the Silsbee-Jasper rivalry goes back farther than the PNG-Nederland one does. Yes PNG/Ned has played more games but that's because Silsbee/Jasper took a hiatus from each other for several years. Silsbee-Jasper rivalry started before PNG-Nederland did.

I agree. I posted that I would put David ahead of Ferrell, but didn't mean that he was the best point guard from Silsbee. James Simmons was by far the better point guard, one of the best ever players to come out of Silsbee. I still say Darrell McArthur was the best, he just never did anything after high school.

You are right Jay, Ferrel " Pokey " Artis was one of the best true point guards from this area. But I would have to put Silsbee's David " Bugs " Green ahead of him.

Pound for Pound??? This isn't boxing. Besides, Mickens and Boutte were about the same size. Really this is nothing to get bent out of shape over. It's just one man's opinion poll, nothing official about that. Obviously, there are several other players worthy of being on a top ten poll from this area.

He was better than Boutte and McKyer for sure. Heck, Boutte wasn't even the best player on his high school team. Donald Mickens was the better of those two.

No, it's not over. I would have to put Silsbee's McDonalds All-American Darryl " Boogaloo " McArthur on that top ten player list. After finishing his senior season he was in the top 20 all time scoring leaders in the state, all classification, with over 2500 points.

I won't go as far as saying the Tigers are going to be great, but they will be a good team. The Tigers lost some key players to allow them to be a great team but they will contend for the district title with what they have coming back.

Being that I am an old Silsbee Tiger, I have to pull for our old friends the Jasper Bulldogs. But as for a prediction, I say the Cards win in 3.

You are right PNG Proud, I had forgotten about those last 2 years in 4A( going 1-19 would make you tend to want to forget ). I do know that we have added more seating since then with the horseshoe part added 2 years ago. A couple of other cosmetic changes have been added since we last played ya'll there.

I am all for having faith in your team and backing them 100%, but let's get real here. Last year's Jasper team was the worst Jasper team that I have ever seen, I have seen quite a few. One year is not going to do it. I'll give Brooks 2 to 3 years to get that program back up where it belongs. The question is, would you bet a substantial amount of money on the Dawgs winning district this year? If so, where can I reach you? I would like some of that action, please.

Great news for the PNG fans. Looking forward to seeing the new and improved Reservation. I hope PNG and Silsbee can keep this home and home series going till then. The PNG fans will get to see our new Tiger Stadium next year for the first time. I find our stadium quite unique.

Maybe you need to read that article more carefully. That article was written back in 1979, part of Bob West's old archives. The rule has changed since then, you are now allowed to attend summer camps. I don't think Perkins was even born yet in 1979. lol

Now the state 110 meter hurdle champion. Congrats Donavan. Big and very fast with great hands, that's what I like in a reciever.

Donavan Harris of Silsbee was a very good reciever last year for the Tigers. Look for him to have a better year this year if he's not called on to play quarterback. At '6 "2, 185 with sprinter speed( regional champion in the 110 meter hurdles ), he'll get some looks from some Div. I schools for sure.

Getting Brooks back will definetly help the Dawgs but to say they will win the district is quite a stretch. Last years Jasper team had to be the worst Jasper team I have ever seen in all my years of watching Silsbee-Jasper games, which go back to 1970. Silsbee won last years game 35-0 and they only played 2 1/2 quarters due to bad weather. Silsbee could have scored 60 on the Bulldogs that night. That had to be the slowest, most unagressive Jasper team that I have ever seen. I know they were young, very young indeed when you have 9 freshman on the varsity and 4 of those start and you are the second largest school in the district. But, where was the upperclassman last year? You say you have a bunch of starters coming back and that is a good thing. But if they aren't any better than they were last year, you better get some different starters. The players that Jasper put on the field last year in the Silsbee game I really felt sorry for them. It was quite obvious that they were outmanned from the beginning and that's just so suprising considering it's a Jasper football team. Never, ever had I seen them so low. I am hoping Brooks can get the Dawgs turned back around and get that program back up. Like I have said before, it's just not right in the football world with Jasper at the bottom. Good luck Dawgs.
