1. In the immortal words of Clubber Lang, my prediction for this one is: Pain!  (for BC)
 2. Based on Smitty's history, I am sure this thread is leading up to a diatribe about how the defense would have performed even better with a different Def. Coordinator and how the defensive stats from last night weren't legitimate because Crosby wasn't very good and other teams from our district played tougher teams last night.
 3. I guess the irony of that was missed by you. Of course I don't think LU should be DIII, but I also don't think football should be FBS.  I don't see how anyone can objectively say that this program is ready to make that jump.

The rest won't respond to heresy.
That is not exactly correct.  I think all here want LU to go FBS.  You're just 1 of 3 that doesn't care if Lamar is ready to compete at that level when they make that move.
Because that logic makes no sense in the real world. Many schools like WKU and ULM were kicking butt in FCS/IAA, then moved to FBS to endure losing for years. Lamar is already losing, might as well build in FBS than to start winning in FCS only to lose again in FBS. Back on topic, how about a poll on Lamar to FBS.
So that is your rationale: We are already losing so let's go to a bigger conference and lose more and consider it progress.  Are you trying to kill the football program?  Attendance is tenuous at best now.  If you start taking 40 and 50 point pastings from FBS schools week in and week out it will be the death of the program.  Never mind the fact that the stadium isn't big enough to support FBS requirements.
Using your rationale, Lamar should drop to DIII. This way Lamar will be pasting DIII schools by 40 and 50 points and we will have the biggest stadium in DIII.
That makes more sense than moving up to a division that you can't possibly compete in right now. Get the petition started for that and I will sign it.

 6.
Guys, about 5% of these teams run questionable programs (agents...etc, etc...)and this is what the critics focus on. Just like there are high schools out there running not-so-clean programs.
Would you be referring to a certain Houston area school that just dropped down to 3A?
 7. An upgrade simply because he was a "standout college player" or because he has varsity experience?  Hopefully the guy does a great job, but the only he can be an upgrade from last season is if he wins a state championship this season.
 8. There shouldn't be too much head scratching over this.  I don't know Coach Dikinson at all and hopefully he does a great job, but this sure has the look of an AD / head football coach trying to put a successful, non-football sport back in its place after a successful run.  Hopefully I'm wrong but I've got to believe that there were some pretty experienced big names trying to get that job with the baseball talent Jasper has in the pipeline.
 9. Only football players work hard?  Ridiculous statements.

It will be posted, but I have heard that they are wanting to move quick.  There will probably be some in house candidates.  Not sure who will be on the hiring committee since they currently don't have a superintendent.  It will be interesting.  I am sure whoever they get will instill discipline, work ethic, and teach all those things that Coach Huck taught.  He isn't the only one out there that can teach that.  He did a great job at winning at football, but their numbers were way down.  They only had two teams the past two years.  Maybe some of those kids that walk to hallways will come out and play now.   Talking to some friends, I know that there is a new excitement among the staff and kids.  The next few weeks should be interesting.  Who do you guys think should get it.
I am sick and tired of hearing the numbers are down. How many times am I going to have to post this? Lets see the numbers are down in football, track, girls basketball but the numbers are good in volleyball, tennis, golf, softball and baseball. Lets see you sweat a lot and have to run plus push your body to the limit in the sports that are down. Then you have the sports where the numbers are up, don't sweat very much, little or no running except around the bases. Hey they can eat more twinkie's and junk food in the sports that the numbers are up, not as much torture to the body. They can recoup before game day. That excitement will not last long, the numbers will be down again, they will want to run the next guy off and nothing will change. Some kids have it some don't,  plain and simple.  Its all about the drive and love for the sport. Either you have it or you don't and "NO" coach can make you lose that only the individual person themself.
'Dem boys jus' need to toughen up, suck it up and play football.  Ery'one knows boys that don't play football's jus' a bunch of girly-boy sissies.  Strange, but I don't remember seeing my son popping twinkies and junk food into his mouth in the middle of the summer when he is busting his butt working on baseball and the other sissy-boy sports that you seem to have such contempt for.  I couldn't have put it any better than you stumbled upon at the end of your post - "It's all about the drive and love for the sport."  If a kid doesn't have a drive and love for football, why should he play?
 11. It depends on the kid's role in the lineup.  A high strikeout rate for a top of the order kid can hurt.  But a traditional power hitter / RBI guy gets a little more leeway (high risk / high reward).  A kid may average a strike out a game, but if he is batting .300 plus and doing his job, they are not a big deal.  But if the role is to get on base and be a table setter, their strikeout rate can't be that high. Just one man's opinion.

 13. Show me a teenager that hasn't made some bad decisions.  There aren't any.  Websites like this are a double-edged sword.  It is great that their accomplishments are appreciated and talked about, but they also amplify their mistakes and problems.  Between that and Facebook, I am awfully glad that I'm not a teenager now.  All of your faults and mistakes can be broadcast for everyone to see.  I hope the kid gets things straightened out.  He has incredible talent and baseball can open a lot of doors for him.
 14. I do know what a joke is because I have read some of your posts in this thread.  I don't even know the kid, but to have adults joke at this kid's expense, even if you believe it to be harmless, is pretty irresponsible.  I don't have a clue about Brenham and could care less.  As for Bridge City, they have a great program, but I am pretty sure that they could probably make room for a kid that was an MVP in a pretty tough 4A district.

 16. It's interesting that the people who say that kids should play multiple sports only seem to complain when a good athlete doesn't play football.  I don't seem to ever remember hearing those people lament the fact that a great football player isn't playing basketball or baseball or even soccer.
 17.
I just talked to  UIL director and yes you can practice a sport out of season duing the school year in the athletic period. I was wrong but I still feel the sameway about classes for individual sports. 50 minutes is not a lot of time to actually get in much work.  Most of the work is done after school. HJ is good not because they have a basketball class but because of their little dribbler program. I don't see the baseball class helping their baseball program. Silsbee they just have more athletes plain and simple. Don't see a basketball class helping Bridge City either. Here are the facts, unless Orangefield really grows at a rapid pace we will always be in the rear view mirrow of WOS, Silsbee and HJ in basketball, also WOS, Silsbee and BC in football. It will be hit and miss for us as long as we stay in this district. We simply do not have the number of athletes some of these bigger schools have. Orangefield needs to have their athlete's playing multiple sports in order to compete. If kids start specializing the program as a "WHOLE" is doomed. That is what we are talking about RIGHT, the "WHOLE" program.
"WHOLE" program = Football program Anyone who thinks that baseball or basketball players don't benefit from actually "playing" baseball or basketball or working on those individual sports during an athletic period is in denial or truly thinks that every boy in a HS should be playing football and maybe fit in another sport where possible during those specific seasons.  That just isn't the way it is anymore.  With the growth of select baseball and AAU / summer basketball, kids have more options to develop in other sports and what some of you perceive as the "specialization problem" is only going to get worse in all classifications.  There are more options to work on the non-football sports and unfortunately, some of the better athletes may like those better than football and shockingly choose not to play.  Baseball and basketball players get next to nothing from doing football offseason workouts during their specific season.  The workouts should be sport specific, especially during the course of the season and if a kid chooses to specialize, he should not be looked at as letting the football program down.  I know this is Texas and football is king, but some of the arguments on here are ridiculous.
 18.

I'm not trying to stir the pot, but I just can't see why the head football coach would be overseeing the workouts of basketball and baseball players.  The skill sets for those sports are completely different and so are the weight and conditioning workouts.  It just souds like micromanaging or worse to me.
He is the ATHLETIC DIRECTOR. He is overseeing the ATHLETES. Unless of course, you do not consider Basketball and Baseball players athletes.
Thanks for the clarification, Bill.  I really appreciate it. At most schools the AD portion of the job is merely administrative and consists of hiring coaches for other sports and letting them do their jobs and run their programs.  Not micromanaging workouts and weight programs for sports that (let's be honest) compete with football for athletes.  The only reason to do this is to keep kids in what is primarily the football class and make it clear that even if you don't want to play football you will still be under the head football coach's control.  I would bet that it has dissuaded some kids from going straight basketball or baseball since they have to go through football workouts anyway.

 20. No one responded because it is time to let this thread die.
 21. I don't mind the play-in or first round game.  A 16 seed is a 16 seed no matter how you slice it.  Lamar could either be an automatic 16 seed and be the sacrificial lamb for a Number 1 seed and be one and done or you can get the play-in game and have a realistic shot to at least win a game in the tournament.  Get the win against Vermont, cap off the season, and then play North Carolina and increase the exposure for the program.  If Lamar continues to get in the tournament under Coach Knight, they won't always be a 16 seed or relegated to the play-in game.  The future looks bright for the program and any tournament win with this group of players is icing on the cake.

 23. Any word on why he isn't playing?  I think he could definitely help this year, especially if Duplant is no longer with the team.
